Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Going to Elementary School Together

The kindergarten graduation ceremony concluded with Mengmeng’s recent spirited confession.

The second day of summer vacation marked the beginning of first-grade registration.

Early in the morning, Mrs. Gu entered the bedroom, pulling open the curtains while calling the two little ones, “Gu Zhihan, Mengmeng, get up, we need to go to school to register.”

“What? School?” Mengmeng, still in her dreams, was instantly jolted awake by those words. She hurried out of bed, her sleepy little face staring at Mrs. Gu as she cautiously sought confirmation, fearing she had misspoken, “Stepmom, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? Haven’t my husband and I already graduated? Why do we have to go to school again?”

“She didn’t make a mistake, you did. We only graduated from kindergarten.” Before Mrs. Gu could respond, Gu Zhihan, who had been woken up, quickly explained to her, “Next, we have to go through elementary, middle school, high school, and college…”

“Yes, that’s right.” Mrs. Gu nodded in agreement and added, “If you decide to pursue a graduate degree later, you will have to study for a few more years.”

“No way…” The more Mengmeng listened, the more hopeless she felt, realizing she had just escaped one prison only to be heading to another, and there would still be more after that.

“Exactly how many more years do we have to study to be done with school?” Mengmeng, on the verge of tears, asked again while counting on her fingers, trying to figure out the specific number of years, but she couldn’t come up with an answer after a long while.

Seeing her utterly clueless appearance, Gu Zhihan simply told her, “Don’t bother counting; if we just go up to college, it’s at least 12 more years.”

Twelve years…

Another twelve years in prison…

Luo Mengmeng rolled her eyes and relentlessly rolled around the bed, “Stepmom, do I really have to go to school? I don’t like school!” @@novelbin@@
