Chapter 880: Chapter 880: A Lover Will Not Miss
After finishing playing a piece, Caleb slowly opened his deep eyes and looked at the woman he loved with extreme tenderness. His thin lips slightly opened: “Do you like it?”
Xaviera: “…” She dug her ears, wondering if there was something wrong with her ears or if Caleb was just too narcissistic. He played so badly but still dared to ask her ‘do you like it’?
Suddenly, the door was pushed open again. Yigol Mamet rushed in, panic-stricken and confused, presumably just waking up. “What happened? I just heard a terrible sound, like the background music of a horror movie!”
Xaviera’s eyelids twitched, realizing that it wasn’t her ears that had a problem, but Caleb’s playing. However, Caleb himself did not show the slightest embarrassment and said indifferently, “You were having a nightmare.”
Yigol Mamet looked bewildered: “Impossible, I heard it very clearly!”
Caleb didn’t even lift his head, snorted softly, “How can it be impossible? You’ve always had nightmares since you were little, and hearing scary sounds is nothing strange. Besides, we didn’t hear anything. Right, Xaviera?”
Xaviera: “?” Can I say it’s wrong?
Who would have thought that Yigol was so gullible? He took Caleb’s words at face value, looking serious, “You’re right. It must have been a nightmare. I haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
Caleb nodded, his voice softening a little, “Don’t be afraid. When you get a chance, go see a doctor. You should go back to your room and rest now.”
Yigol obediently went back to his room, and Xaviera shook her head helplessly, thinking that he was just too naive and would believe anything anyone told him.
Caleb slowly got up and muttered, “This violin is indeed difficult to control.”
Xaviera gave a sly smile, discovering that there were indeed things that even Caleb couldn’t do. Probably because he was so outstanding, there was nothing he wanted to do that he couldn’t. In her heart, Caleb seemed like an omnipotent figure, having single-handedly founded the Mamet Corporation and making a huge impact in the business world at a young age. It seemed that nothing could pose a challenge to him. But now he found the violin difficult.
“I always thought Caleb could do anything, but it turns out even you are not good at something,” Xaviera said with a smile.
Caleb’s expression was indifferent as he carefully put away the violin. “Of course, there are things I’m not good at. But, Xaviera, you can do everything. You can paint, compose, design, and play the violin. You are the most special person in this world.”
“Do you remember the day we met at the Civil Affairs Bureau?”
Xaviera’s thoughts drifted back to that day. She had originally wanted to register her marriage with Moore Mamet, but after Mag Evans’s interference, she impulsively turned to Caleb, and they got married on a whim.
It was only after getting married that she found out Caleb appeared at the Civil Affairs Bureau to form an alliance with the Coriell family. Later, he told her that he hadn’t gone there for Vita Coriell.
“Actually, I’ve been keeping a secret from you. I went to the Civil Affairs Bureau for you from the very beginning,” Caleb said softly, his words like a stone which stirred up ripples in Xaviera’s heart.
After a long while, Xaviera asked in astonishment, “Did you know I was Black Tide a long time ago?”
She and her senior fellow had known each other for a long time, but they had never known each other’s true identity. And how did he know she’d be at the Civil Affairs Bureau?
A faint smile appeared on Caleb’s lips, his deep eyes filled with intense affection. “I don’t know why, but I had a feeling that someone very important was waiting for me there. If I didn’t go, I would regret it for the rest of my life.”
It was just a feeling that made the usually indifferent Caleb run off to the Civil Affairs Bureau impulsively. Even he didn’t know why he did it. Back then, he didn’t know that Xaviera was his junior sister, but there was a voice deep inside his heart telling him that he had to go no matter what. He never went for Vita Coriell, only for that important person.
Xaviera was dumbfounded, disbelief on her face. “If you hadn’t trusted your instincts that day and refused to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau, we might have missed each other.”
Unexpectedly, Caleb shook his head. “No, even if we hadn’t met that day, we would have met someday. Whenever I see you, I’d fall in love with you. So, no matter when, I will never miss you.”
True fate is not a chance encounter, but knowing that whenever you see her, you’ll recognize her as the one who will accompany you for the rest of your life.
Xaviera rarely heard Caleb speak such sweet words. She nestled in his arms, a sweet smile on her lips. Marrying Caleb might have been an impulsive decision, but it was the best one she had ever made in her life.
What do you think?
