Chapter 881: Chapter 881: The Heir of the Russell Family
The next day, a guest arrived at the Lowen Clubhouse. Jerome Russell had come from Holy City specifically to deliver a jade bracelet of imperial green jadeite to Xaviera Evans, and explained, “This is the jade bracelet worn by the Russell family lineage. Both my father and your mother had one. My father’s was passed on to Albert, so naturally, this one from my aunt should go to you.”
Jerome’s older brother, Julian Russell, was the son of Frederick Russell and the third-ranked young master of the Russell family, and the “aunt” Jerome referred to was Nina Hughes.
If this was an heirloom from her mother, Xaviera had no reason to refuse. She carefully examined the jadeite bracelet, which had a distinctive pattern carved upon it.
Of the three Russell siblings, only Uncle Frederick and her mother had bracelets. As it turned out, Nidya Hughes did not have one. The fact that the other bracelet was with Julian indicated that the Russell family considered her and Julian as potential heirs.
Jerome then handed her a property transfer agreement that already had Frederick’s seal on it. “Cousin Xaviera, the Russell family has been growing its roots in Holy City since ancient times. My grandmother hopes that you will make your way back to Holy City to develop our family’s legacy, but she will not force you. Given that you’ve already settled down in Libanan, you may take charge of the Russell operations there. With Albert looking after matters in Holy City, you two, as the heirs of the Russell family, will have everything that’s rightfully yours.”.
“These were originally meant for your aunt, but sadly she is no longer part of this world. It is only right that you should inherit them. Also, you should ignore any inquiries from the Hughes family, their intentions must be ill.”
Whenever Jerome thought of the Hughes family, he couldn’t help but feel irate. “Lord Hughes is faithless. He abandoned my grandmother and married his mistress. He has the gall to ask us to respect him as our grandfather and slander my father as being unfilial. He never fulfilled his duties as a parent, so how can he demand filial piety from our father?”
“The moment my grandmother returned home with my father and he took on the Russell surname, all ties with the Hughes family were severed. We despise his deceitful and treacherous manner. And he still dares to meddle in Albert’s marriage under the guise of being a grandfather, claiming that Albert is his grandson and that he as a grandfather should dictate the marriage! Disgusting! Are there no hints of shame left?”
From Jerome’s condemnation, it was evident that the Russell family held a strong distaste for the Hughes family. Xaviera nodded in agreement. She had seen firsthand the type of people the Hughes family was. Zora Hughes was an example – if she could give birth to a daughter like her, it was safe to assume there could be nothing good about the Hughes family.
Lord Hughes, Cory Hughes, severed his ties with his wife many years ago but now interfered in Julian’s marriage matters. He probably coveted the position of the Russell family heir and wanted to get closer to his grandson.
Talking about this infuriated Jerome even more to the point of being out of breath. After breathing heavily a few times, he finally calmed down, “But Albert will not allow himself to be manipulated by the Hughes family!”.
The Russell family is an aristocratic family with numerous contacts. They must have had a good reason for declaring Julian as the next family head. This cousin of hers was surely not someone who could be easily pushed around.
“Xaviera, I’d love you to visit Holy City with me someday. I really want to introduce you to my friends, and tell them that I have a little sister now! So they can stop teasing our family for not having any girls!”,
After Jerome left, Xaviera received a phone call. Buck Drew, the CEO of Glaze Company, wanted to discuss the clothing design plan with her. Xaviera gathered the design drafts and arranged to meet him at a western restaurant.
Xaviera and Buck Drew had known each other for seven years. Buck Drew was the mysterious CEO of Glaze Company, and she had been the chief designer of Glaze Company for a long time. However, Xaviera did not understand why Buck Drew suddenly decided to return to the country.
As soon as Xaviera sat down at the restaurant, Buck Drew began to tease her, “Finally treating me to a meal, and yet choosing a restaurant under the Mamet Group. Truly, ‘keeping the profits within one’s own circle’!”
“I have to meet a man in the place where my husband can see, otherwise, he will be jealous,” Xaviera responded with a smile, quickly signing the contract. Buck Drew’s eyes lit up when he noticed the jadeite bracelet on her wrist.
Xaviera pointed towards the bracelet. “Do you know anything about this bracelet?”
“The Russell family originally made three imperial green jadeite bracelets carved with their family crest. These bracelets could only be worn by the direct descendants of the Russell family or the future heirs. Almost all aristocratic noble families know about this. So, what is your relationship with the Russell family?” Buck Drew asked, raising an eyebrow.
Having known Buck Drew for seven years, Xaviera considered him a good friend so there was no need for her to hide anything from him. Subsequently, she straightforwardly said: “My mother was a member of the Russell family.”
What do you think?
