Chapter 28 - 28. School has started 2
It wasn’t long before the owner of the last seat arrived.
He always felt he had heard the name Xiao Ruawen somewhere, and when he saw the hopping bunny leading a little girl into the classroom, Xu Qingfan remembered everything.
It was the daughter of the lady he had met at Gualv Square last time!
"Oh! Wenwen, come sit here. Kids, do you still remember your auntie?" There weren’t many empty seats left, and Xiao’s mom started looking from the back and noticed Xu Qingfan and his group at a glance.
"Hello, auntie. Yes, we remember! I still have the hanging ornament from your store on my backpack!" Xu Qingfan picked up his backpack and waved the little Charmander tied to the zipper.
"What a coincidence to be in the same class. From now on, we’ll be classmates and should look out for each other, okay?"
"Sure, sure."
After hanging her backpack, Xiao Ruawen sat next to Lin Wanning, and their temporary group was now complete.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Xiao Ruawen, and my dad is a soldier!" The little girl proudly distributed the snacks she brought to the three others as soon as she sat down.
"Hello, Xiao Ruawen. My name is Lin Wanning. Nice to meet you."
"Just call me Ruan Wen or Wenwen."
"Hello, I’m Xia Xiaoxiao."
"I’m Xu Qingfan, thank you for the cookies."
"If you like them, I have more here; my mom and I made them ourselves!" She then pulled out a heap of individually wrapped cookies from her backpack, stacking them like a little mountain in the center of the four desks.
[What a sunny and cheerful little girl.] Xu Qingfan thought to himself.
Lin Wanning was also sunny and cheerful, but she was lively only around people she knew well; she became timid instantly in unfamiliar environments and with strangers.
Classes hadn’t even started, and Xu Qingfan could already imagine Xiao Ruawen standing on the podium running for class president.
Although he had eaten her cookies, if Xiaoxiao also wanted to be the class president, Xu Qingfan would still vote for Xiaoxiao.
"Does anyone want to run for class committee?" After chatting for a while, Xiao Ruawen asked.
"What is a class committee? Is it fun?" Lin Wanning blinked and asked.
"A class committee is a little helper who helps the teacher manage the class!" Xiao Ruawen explained.
"Is there a reward for helping?"
"Um… no."
"Why should we help if there’s no reward? Wanning usually gets a reward for helping her mom massage her back!" Lin Wanning said seriously.
"My dad says serving the people shouldn’t be for a reward!" Xiao Ruawen argued seriously.
"Cough, cough, cough…" Xu Qingfan, who was drinking water, choked on these words.
All three little girls looked at him, and after organizing his words, Xu Qingfan said, "Being a class member helps you develop yourself, gain recognition from teachers and classmates, and you also get an award certificate at the end of the term!"
"Can I skip math?" Lin Wanning’s eyes sparkled as she asked.
"No!" Xu Qingfan put on a strict teacher’s face.
"˃ʍ˂ Okay then." Lin Wanning made a sulky face.
"Xiaoxiao, do you want to be a class member?" Xu Qingfan asked.
"Do you?" Xia Xiaoxiao responded.
Xu Qingfan thought seriously if he had ever envied those students who were good at studying and could be class members when he was in school.
Definitely, there were.
Was it a regret? Xu Qingfan didn’t think so.
Mainly because his experience with the student council in college had left him with a very bad impression.
There were endless meetings, making it seem like they were high-ranking officials.
During his first year in college, Xu Qingfan joined the student council, and during the college sports meeting, the freshmen were treated like beasts of burden.
It was bad enough not getting paid or fed, but there was also a minister who barked, "You’re tired from this little bit of work? If you don’t want to do it, get lost now!"
He couldn’t stand that kind of nonsense and stood up cursing loudly, "Idiot." and left the scene.
Latter, he heard from the group chat that right after he left, more than ten others followed, which infuriated the senior from Sha Bei.
Although he knew that primary school was different from university, he still shook his head and said, "Not interested."
"I’ll go home and ask my mom," Xia Xiaoxiao said.
"Do you want to run for class president? I think you’d be great at it," Xu Qingfan looked at Xiao Ruawen.
"Haha! Really? Thank you for your confidence!" The little girl’s peach blossom eyes sparkled charmingly as she smiled.
She resembled Ashida Mana from the Japanese drama "Goodbye, Our Kindergarten."
"Yeah, if you run we’ll all support you!"
"Brother Qing Fan supports you, Wanning supports you too!" Lin Wanning waved her fist and said.
"Then I also... support?" Seeing everyone looking at her, Xia Xiaoxiao said uncertainly.
"No worries, if someone is better than me, you don’t need to support me."
Around 8:50 am, the last student arrived in the classroom and several teachers entered one after the other, starting to introduce themselves.
Probably one teacher taught several classes; after introductions, the teachers hurriedly left the scene, leaving only the homeroom teacher standing on the podium.
"What we are going to hand out now is the schedule for the first grade at Experimental Primary School. Students, take good care of it and find your textbooks before class in time."
[Four classes in the morning, three in the afternoon, not bad.] Xu Qingfan thought to himself.
"Why are there some blank spots, teacher!" a child asked from below.
Xu Qingfan was startled, right, why are there blank spots?
He had subconsciously thought of a college timetable, where blanks seemed normal as they meant no class during that time!
"This young friend is very observant, haha. Everyone, turn to the second page, soccer, basketball, painting, etc., you can choose two activities you are interested in, and the blanks are for these classes!"
"Wow! ⊙∀⊙"
A buzz rose from below.
"Skating! I want to choose skating!"
"I want to fly planes!"
"I want to turn into Ultraman!"
"..."
The next few pages were all about elective courses. Xu Qingfan flipped through them again, once more marveling at the saying, you really do get what you pay for!
[They even have golf! Seriously?] Xu Qingfan complained endlessly.
It’s a pity there’s no horse riding, otherwise he would have liked to experience being a horseman.
"Okay, everyone, quiet down. Discuss the elective courses with your parents and make sure to hand in the forms to the teacher tomorrow."
The homeroom teacher seemed to take a friendly approach, yet the noise level remained high below.
"Quiet down everyone!" Guan Biyue shouted loudly.
The classroom quieted down instantly.
"Now we’re going to distribute the school uniforms, please come up when your name is called, okay?" she then resumed in a sweet voice.
Xu Qingfan was the first to receive; there were four sets of uniforms in total, two for summer and two for winter.
The summer ones consisted of a white short-sleeve shirt with black shorts, and a white, blue-collared polo shirt with black long pants.
The winter ones were a light and a thick jacket each.
Xu Qingfan measured them against himself, the summer clothes fit well, but the winter clothes - the jackets would cover his butt!
Xu Qingfan knew his mom wanted to save money, the idea being one set of winter clothes could last a few years, but did they have to be so big?
He would just have to drink more milk and hope he’d grown taller by winter...
What do you think?
