Damn it, I'm surrounded by childhood sweethearts

Chapter 29 - 29. School starts 3

"Alright, the temporary school cards that were just handed out, please keep them safe. The official ones will be distributed later, and the teacher will collect these back.

You’ve all met the teacher just now, but I haven’t met everyone yet. How about we do some self-introductions?"

"Okay!"

"Teacher, me, my name is Wang Junze!"

"Teacher, my name is Zhao Hao!"

"Alright, alright, everyone quiet down. When the teacher calls your name, come up and introduce yourself!"

As expected, Xu Qingfan was the first to get on stage again.

Xu Qingfan glanced at the classmates seated below and didn’t quite know what to say, "Uh... hi everyone, my name is Xu Qingfan."

He was about to step down when Guan Biyue pulled him back, "Qingfan, you need to set a good example. How about sharing your hobbies with everyone?"

Xu Qingfan looked up at the encouraging class teacher, thought for a moment, and then said, "If anyone gets bullied at school in the future, tell me, I’ll... I’ll report to the teacher for you!"

Originally, he wanted to say he would help them fend off the bully but was worried that six-year-olds wouldn’t understand, so he phrased it more gently.

"Hahaha~"

"Whose kid is this? So interesting!"

The parents standing in the corridor burst into laughter after hearing Xu Qingfan’s words.

Yao Jiping quietly pulled her friend away, not wanting anyone to know that the cheeky boy inside was her son!

"What are you doing? It’s Xiaoxiao’s turn!" Lin Jing chuckled, looking at Xu’s mom, pulling her back to their spot.

"Hi everyone, my name is Xia Xiaoxiao, Xia as in summer, Xiao as in small." Xia Xiaoxiao spoke crisply and went straight back to her seat.

Guan Biyue: ...

[You two childhood sweethearts are making it tough for the teacher!]

"Classmate Xiaoxiao is really straightforward. Next, let’s welcome Xiao Ruawen to the stage for a self-introduction."

Xiao Ruawen wore a beautiful pink dress today, but it didn’t hinder her bold strides as she got on stage. "Hi everyone, my name is Xiao Ruawen. I like singing and playing ping pong. I hope to get along with you all in the future. If you encounter any troubles in daily life, feel free to talk to me!"

After her introduction, Xiao Ruawen took a couple of steps to the side and bowed respectfully to everyone below the stage.

"Wow~ It’s clear that classmate Ruawen is a very lively and cheerful child. Next, please..."

The subsequent introductions were mostly similar, with some students eagerly sharing while others were too nervous to speak a word.

When it was Lin Wanning’s turn to go on stage, Xu Qingfan encouraged her by patting her head, "Go Wanning, you’re the best."

"Mm!" Lin Wanning nervously walked up to the podium and looked back at them once more before she stepped on it.

Xu Qingfan nodded and smiled at her. Lin Wanning felt like she received some mysterious strength and suddenly wasn’t so nervous anymore.

"Hi everyone, my name is Lin Wanning. I love drawing. Qingfan brother, Xiaoxiao, and I all graduated from Sunshine Kindergarten. Please take care of us." After finishing her speech, little Wanning’s heart pounded nervously.

"Classmate Wanning likes drawing, huh? We might need your help with the blackboard in the future. Next, Zhang Yiyi, please come up and introduce yourself."

The teacher’s voice echoed for a moment with no response, "Is Zhang Yiyi here?" Guan Biyue raised her voice.

This time, someone stood up, a little girl with neat short hair that covered her ears and a pointed oval face, always smiling.

"Hi everyone, my name is Zhang Yiyi." Zhang Yiyi bowed to the audience after her introduction and returned to her seat.

The little girl might have had a cold, as her voice sounded a bit strange. Xu Qingfan couldn’t make out the beginning of her introduction, only barely hearing the name Zhang Yiyi.

This was just a minor incident. Compared to those too nervous to speak on stage, Zhang Yiyi’s performance was already better than most.

The introduction session quickly came to an end, and after handing out the first-grade textbooks, Guan Biyue announced the end of class.

"That’s all for this morning’s class. After you go home for lunch, listen to your parents, and make sure to be back in class before 2:30 in the afternoon, okay?"

"Okay!"

"Class dismissed!"

"Yay!"

"Rascal, what was that you said during the self-introduction?" As soon as Xu Qingfan walked out of the classroom, his mom gave him a playful knock on the head.

Of course, it wasn’t a real hit, just a way for parents to show concern for their kids.

"Stop it. Xu Qingfan, come over here. If your mom doesn’t want you, I do," Lin Jing lightly patted Yao Jiping’s wrist and pulled Xu Qingfan to her side.

After school, they still needed to check the student dormitory, forming a temporary group with Lin Wanning, Xiao Ruawen, and their four families.

Since Xiao Ruawen’s father didn’t come today either, Xia Xiaoxiao felt she wasn’t the only special one, her mood brightened.

During lunch, Xu Qingfan felt a bit disappointed as he had imagined the Experimental Primary School’s cafeteria would have a self-serve style like his previous life’s university canteen.

Self-serve indeed, but it was just picking from five pre-set menus, labeled A to E, each with predetermined dishes.

[Isn’t this still like kindergarten!], Xu Qingfan thought as he ate his delicious mushroom and beef rice.

However, the food tasted better than that in kindergarten, probably because it was a fresh experience.

"The school’s food is good. No concern about the kids going hungry."

"It is good but a bit pricey."

"Well, there’s a reason for that. Given all the food safety issues lately, if spending more means our kids eat well, it’s worth it."

"That’s true. I have a friend in the dairy industry who said chemicals are routinely added. It’s best to buy imported milk for safety."

A few parents chatted away about food safety.

Among the kids, Xu Qingfan quickly became the one everyone wanted to share food with.

"Qingfan brother, I don’t like bell peppers. Can I give them to you?" Lin Wanning meticulously picked out the bell peppers from her scrambled eggs.

"You shouldn’t have chosen it if you didn’t like it." Xia Xiaoxiao said while passing the fatty meat from her braised pork to Xu Qingfan.

"But the scrambled eggs are delicious!"

"Alright, alright, give them to me. I’m not picky." Xu Qingfan wanted to grow taller before winter, so he wasn’t about to turn down any food.

"I don’t like bitter melon. Can I give it to you?" Xiao Ruawen, seeing Xu Qingfan’s acceptance, joined in as well.

"Sure, give it to me. I like bitter melon." Xu Qingfan felt like he was a qualified meal buddy, maybe next time he’d just order plain rice and get sides from them.

"Hehe, you’re so nice. I was afraid I’d get scolded for not finishing my food, but now I don’t need to worry!" Xiao Ruawen happily gave her bitter melon to Xu Qingfan, even adding an extra sweet and sour rib as a reward.
