“What is he going to do?!”

Roger was taken aback, suddenly making a connection to Anna whom he had seen not long before.

Information about specters flashed through his mind, and without time to think, he hurried out.

“Bang!”

Roger pretended to be clumsy, bumping into the nearby tables and chairs, making a series of noises.

“Roger, what happened?”

...

Adeline quickly stood up and asked.

“Uh…”

Roger quickly glanced around, the head rising from the pocket watch had already detached from the table surface, slowly floating towards Adeline.

“Adeline, about this morning’s incident, I’d like to have a serious talk with you.”

“Have a talk, now?”

Adeline hesitated, stealing a glance at Henrik sitting on the couch, but in an instant, she made her choice.

“Hmm… I’m sorry, my child… I must have a serious talk with him.”

“That’s alright.”

Henrik elegantly stood up, taking the pocket watch from the table, “I have already taken much of your time, and I have asked all I needed to; should there be further questions, I will give you a call.”

“Thank you for your understanding.”

Adeline still felt somewhat impolite.

Roger stood still, trying to act normal, doing his best not to let any expression betray him.

The pallid head floated further from Adeline, cold dead eyes staring intently at Roger.

Just when Roger thought the entity was about to make a move, the man named Henrik casually opened the pocket watch, and the head floating midair was pulled into the watch.

Click!

The watch cover snapped shut.

The room returned to normal.

Roger’s tense muscles gradually relaxed; if that thing had truly lunged at Adeline, he would have had no choice but to attack Henrik.

Only when he saw the man walk away did Roger completely sigh with relief.

“Interesting lad.”

Standing at the street corner, Henrik looked back and cast a glance, a slight smile appearing on his lips.

“A natural spirit medium?”

He tugged at his tie under the collar, slipping into a car parked by the roadside.

As soon as he was inside, he quickly shed his suit jacket, reaching somewhere to fiddle, “Not wearing an undershirt does let in a draft…”

Compared to his righteous demeanor from before, he became a completely different person.

Starting the car, Henrik drove toward a mansion at the end of the road.

There lay the most historical estate in all of Baytown.

After entering the gate following procedure, Henrik soon met with the mansion’s owner.

An elderly woman with white hair and a frail body.

The Mayor of Baytown, Ms. Huda.

Without a word, Henrik slid over a card intricately carved with complex patterns.

The old lady merely glanced at it but made no move.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone from the Hunters Guild.”

She looked at Henrik, “Since you’ve come to me, you must be a Demon Hunter, right?”

“I am not a Transcendent.”

“I’m afraid it will be difficult for me to become one in the future.”

A flash of dejection crossed Henrik’s face.

“I have come seeking assistance; a standard Demon Hunting Squad requires a hunter and a spirit medium.”

He looked at Huda with hope.

“I am old, unable to act with you, and in my family, no one has inherited the talent of a spirit medium.”

The elderly lady crossed her arms in front of her.

“If you wish to look up information, you are welcome any time, but other than that…”

“I’m not able to help you much; you’d better find someone else.”

“You don’t have a daughter or granddaughter of sorts?”@@novelbin@@

Henrik smiled.

“Maybe you missed something; may I test again?”

Henrik scanned the portraits on the wall, depicting the important members of the entire family; it was clear the family had good genes, all handsome men and beautiful women.

“No!”

The old woman’s voice turned cold.

“If there’s nothing else, please leave now, I am old and my energy is not what it used to be.”

“Ha ha…”

Henrik laughed awkwardly, “I didn’t mean anything by it, just asking casually.”

He stood up.

“Oh, by the way.”

“What do you make of the recent uproar in town about the beast attacks?”

The old woman glanced at Henrik.

“The only thing I can be sure of is that there are no specters at work here.”

“Thank you,” Henrik smiled broadly.

No specters, which means it could be something else.

“Thank you for the coffee.”

Henrik turned and left.

“This is top-grade coffee, what a pity not to have even a sip.”

While clearing the table, the maid muttered softly to herself.

Meanwhile, at the other end of town, within Sherman’s manor, the atmosphere was not so harmonious.

Ivy’s face was somber, exuding a dangerous aura as she had turned Kant’s island upside down recently.

To say she left no stone unturned would be an understatement; she had searched every nook and corner of the island, not sparing the nearby beaches and waters.

But still, she came up empty-handed.

Under such circumstances, it would be odd if she were in a good mood.

“How is the investigation going?”

Preoccupied with her thoughts, Ivy’s tone was rather heavy.

“That boy named Roger definitely has a problem!”

“The item might even be on him!”

Sherman was sitting opposite Ivy.

“The item? Do you have it?”

Ivy’s expression lightened from stormy to sunny.

Sherman shook his head.

“My people bungled it; a gardener died, along with a servant!”

“But a potential seed I had finally found has been missing for a day and a night; it must be an incident.”

“Useless!”

Ivy slammed her hand on the table.

“Ms. Ivy, I am not your subordinate, and I too have paid a price for this matter!”

“So many days have passed, and you have only acquired a vague piece of news?”

“Why don’t you do it yourself, catch him, and torture him for answers?”

Ivy’s expression became intensely menacing.

“You advised me not to act rashly!”

Sherman also grew irritated.

“The boy is living in the Sheriff’s house, what can I do, storm in and drag him out?”

Not achieving the expected targets, Sherman’s tone grew agitated.

“Ultimately, there’s always a way; it’s just a matter of whether you want to do it!”

“I’ve heard about the beast attacks happening in town, that’s your doing, isn’t it?”

“You’ve been focusing on that and have no interest in doing my bidding!”

Ivy accused.

“I am not sure what you are doing, but you think you can become Transcendent just through a few rituals?”

Ivy scoffed.

“Delusional.”

“You’d be better off helping me!”

She abruptly stood up, “I don’t need you for the rest; I will personally capture that boy and interrogate him thoroughly.”

“The agreement is over; I will make sure to report your performance in detail.”

After searching for some time, Ivy completely lost patience, and reality forced her to take drastic measures.

Her fingertips became sharp, and a hint of ferocity appeared on Ivy’s face.
