Chapter 48 - 048 Visit
“He brought it upon himself!”
Amanda said in a heavy voice.
“At least he’s still alive!”
“And I… could only watch helplessly as Simpson died on the roadside!”
Amanda’s eyes reddened slightly as she glared angrily at Nick.
“It’s all in the past.”
Roger patted Amanda on the shoulder, comforting her softly.
“In the past?”
With a cold snort, Nick said, “Do you have any idea what Bob goes through every single night?”
“He often calls me in the middle of the night, telling me he sees Simpson’s ghost haunting him, crying over and over again.”
Nick clenched his fists.
“I never thought Bob could have such a fragile day!”
“Bang!”
He leaned forward and slammed his hands violently on the dining table.@@novelbin@@
“He shouldn’t be the one to bear this, it should be you!”
“If you and that Betty hadn’t gone the wrong way, Simpson wouldn’t be dead, and Bob wouldn’t need to carry this pain!”
Nick’s expression turned vicious, his emotions fluctuating violently, seemingly beyond the scope of normal anger.
“You and your bitch of a mother, you only ever do wrong!”
“If it weren’t for your mom arresting the wrong person, my father wouldn’t be in prison, and my mother wouldn’t have left us!”
“It’s all because of you, all because of you!”
As he spoke, his rage grew, and Nick suddenly stood up, swinging his hand fiercely toward Amanda’s cheek.
Amanda clearly didn’t expect Nick to hit her, a girl, and was somewhat stunned. As Nick’s hand was about to strike Amanda’s cheek,
Smack!
A not-so-strong hand reached out, firmly grabbing Nick’s wrist.
“Enough is enough.”
Roger stood up and looked directly into Nick’s eyes as he spoke.
“Let go!”
Nick bellowed, trying to break free with a fierce jerk of his right hand, but failed to loosen Roger’s grip.
His face turned beet red, and he could vaguely hear a smattering of snickers from around him.
Although Nick was much bigger than Roger and a star in the school, the surrounding sounds made his brain, which had just calmed a bit, completely enveloped in rage!
“Get off me!”
Roaring lowly, Nick clenched his left fist and lashed out at Roger’s face!
Thump!
Nick’s attack came to an abrupt halt.
He was fast, but Roger was faster.
Roger extended his right hand and pushed his arm forward, hitting Nick hard in the face.
Blood splattered, and as snot and tears mixed with the blood, Nick felt stars dancing before his eyes, his body staggered back, uncontrollably tumbling to the ground!
“Good Lord!”
The onlookers gasped in shock as they looked at Roger with a hint of fear in their eyes.
Roger, looking down at the fallen Nick, showed no hint of disturbance, even calmly picking up a napkin from the table to wipe the fresh blood off his palm.
He was unaware that this cool demeanor had left an indelible impression on the other students’ minds.
They had seen too many fierce and arrogant bullies in school, but none like Roger, so calm and effortless,
Even with a touch of nonchalance.
“You…”
Roger had struck so quickly that Amanda didn’t even have time to stop him. Many things seem inconsequential in retelling, but a teenager who dared to fight with an adult wolf, his physical and mental strength are definitely far beyond what normal people can imagine!
“What happened here?!”
The school teacher arrived a bit late, and Roger shook his head reluctantly, knowing that as enjoyable as it was to hit someone in the moment, dealing with the aftermath is a headache…
Not long after, Adeline returned to the school, shortly after departing that morning, and this time, she spoke with the female principal for even longer.
Roger could even faintly hear the sound of their argument.
“Bang!”
After quite a while, Adeline stormed out of the principal’s office, furious.
“Roger, we’re going home!”
“Um… was it resolved in advance?” Roger asked awkwardly.
“The whole class saw what happened, it was Nick who provoked first, and he was the first to throw a punch. You were just defending yourself normally!”
Adeline’s voice was loud, as if she intended for the female principal in the office to hear her.
“If it doesn’t work, I’ll go to the mayor and follow the proper legal procedures!”
“Squeak!”
The door was pushed open, and the figure of the female principal appeared at the doorway, “Adeline, please calm down.”
“Calm down?”
“How can I calm down when my child has been bullied at school?!”
“I hope you can also sympathize with Nick…” the principal sighed, “He lost his mother, and now his father also…”
“If he gets penalized for this, it will affect his college applications next year.”
Upon hearing this, Adeline’s complexion softened, “Under any other conditions, but Nick must make a public apology.”
“This is my bottom line!”
The principal hesitated but finally nodded, “Alright, let’s put an end to this matter.”
Adeline didn’t say anything more and turned around to leave with Roger.
On the way out, Roger learned that Nick was actually the principal’s nephew, which explained why she was so concerned about the matter.
“You did well in this matter!”
To Roger’s surprise, Adeline actually supported what he had done.
“A bad kid like Nick deserves a good beating!”
Adeline remained furious until she had nearly reached her street, where she finally began to calm down.
A warm feeling flowed through Roger’s heart. For a moment, he even felt that if this world was devoid of supernatural powers, living a peaceful life like this would be an extremely happy thing.
However, not long after dinner, an unexpected visitor once again broke the calm.
“Ms. Adeline, I am from the Wildlife Investigation Bureau.”
A middle-aged man with graying hair handed his ID to Adeline.
He was tall and looked very rugged, with meticulous grooming of his hair and beard, and he was wearing a well-fitting suit.
His appearance and demeanor were impeccable.
He must have been quite handsome when he was younger.
“Mr. Henrik, please come in.”
Adeline welcomed the middle-aged man into the living room.
“Please take a seat. May I know what brings you here?”
Henrik set his briefcase on the corner of the table, “It’s about the recent beast attack incident…”
As the conversation turned to the beast attack, Roger quietly stood at the corner of the kitchen, eavesdropping on the conversation in the living room.
His eyes were sharp, and he quickly noticed something unusual about the man named Henrik.
The man’s hands were exceptionally well-maintained, not at all typical for someone of his age.
The atmosphere in the living room was cordial with both individuals engaged in a fluent question-and-answer session, appearing to be old friends.
At that moment, Roger noticed Henrik pull a pocket watch from his pocket. It had a silver face and seemed to be quite old.
Henrik glanced at the time and casually placed the pocket watch on the table, “It’s getting late, I won’t disturb your rest any further. Just one last question.”
“Please, go ahead.”
Adeline took a sip of her tea, lowering her head.
Just then, Roger saw a faint light suddenly illuminate from Henrik’s pocket watch on the table.
Immediately after, a pale man’s face emerged from the face of the watch, hovering in mid-air!
What do you think?
