Chapter 269 Fighting For Time.

Of the fourteen elven kings of the Lignum world, 7 of them have died in the six months that the invasion has lasted.

The remaining six of them put up a front to make it look like they are the last elven kings left. They did so and hoped that the humans would bring out a new tool or overplay their hands.

But the human army stuck to six demigod combatants and what they have already revealed. They were content with a stalemate and to slowly ground down the elven kings.

It wasn't until a new variable appeared that they couldn't deal with that they played another card and revealed what else they were capable of. At this point, it is getting on the elven kings' nerves.

The demigod that was being besieged by two indescribable combat bots roared in anger and lamented, "What kind of terrible enemy have we encountered? What did we ever do to deserve this?"

Unfortunately, the combat robots were not in the mood to talk. They chased the elven king with only one purpose in mind.

Not only was the elven king outnumbered, she had to keep up her shield or fall prey to the hammer of dawn. So she didn't have the resources to fight back at all. The only thing she could do was focus on defending herself and retreating rapidly.

Fortunately, she is very fast. So she was able to keep some distance away from the indestructible combat bots and escape.

When the combat bots couldn't kill her before she left the range around the base, they stopped chasing her and returned to guarding the base.

This is how the Yggdrasil civilization always behaves. They never take risks even if the outcome seems clear. They always plan for the worst and keep their cards close to their chest.

They didn't reveal their full capabilities when they first came to this world because there were just too many unknowns.

Maybe they would have wiped out every resistance in Lignum if they had let loose the 8 demigod combat assets that they have displayed now, but it is more likely that they would make a mistake and not have enough room to undo their mistakes.

For instance, if there was something in this world that could infect a demigod-level combat bot and take control of it or neutralize it, they would lose all 8 indestructible combat bots at once, which would be a great loss.

So they are always cautious. Instead of sweeping through the world with power, they always fight for time, which they use to go through a series of steps that has been tried and tested over several invasions across many types of worlds.

With this plan, the longer they are in a world, the less likely it is that they will lose. It is also a plan that makes their enemies cautious and prevents them from using all their power against the Yggdrasil civilization army, which buys them more time.

Even now, it is uncertain if they have more indestructible combat robots in their mothership, and they like it like that.

They also didn't let the two new indestructible combat bots join the fight against the six elven kings. Instead, they made them guard their most important asset.

Maybe they would be able to kill more demigods if they tried to overwhelm them with the two new indestructible combat robots, but that is not their priority.

Their priority is to fight for time. As long as they have time, they will be able to eventually kill their enemies, and the divine sparks of the elven kings will become theirs.

But the elven kings didn't like this. They wanted a breaking point to tip the scales in their favor, so they turned their gaze to the fight between the mortals below.

This attention to the fight between mortals made them aware of the inevitable loss of the elven army. The elven kings didn't want this. So they decided to interfere.

Demigod combatants swooped down towards the fighting below. With one move they wiped out tens of thousands of airplanes and drones.@@novelbin@@

That single attack didn't stop either. It fell like a guillotine on the mortals below. It caused the inevitable victory for the human army to become unlikely.

Be it wind, light, or sound, as long as it was produced by a demigod, no mortal could withstand it. Everywhere the wind attack of an elven king blew, human soldiers turned to dust.

The human demigods and their six indestructible combat robots also swooped down to stop them. The two sides began to fight, which only made things worse for the human army.

The fight between the demigods stopped the elven kings from focusing on the human soldiers, but it didn't stop the human soldiers from dying.

In fact, the human soldiers were dying faster now that 15 demigods were fighting around them. There was just no difference between a focused attack and a stray attack to them. Both were deadly to them.

If there was one difference, it would be that the storm of stray attacks couldn't single out just the human soldiers. The stray attacks struck everyone indiscriminately, so both the human and elven armies suffered.

It is just that most, if not all, of the human army was on the battlefield while most of the elven army had retreated from the battlefield.

Both the elven and human armies were suffering. But the elven army had more mortals to use, so it was the human army that was losing out in this situation.

If this continued, the human soldiers, drones, and combat bots would be wiped out, leaving the barrier defenseless when the elven kings return to attacking the satellites. Continue reading at My Virtual Library Empire

Command couldn't let this happen, so they ordered a full retreat while they let loose some of the cards that they had been keeping in stock.

The hammer of dawn fell down on the elven kings, hoping to kill them. Unfortunately, there were too many elven kings around to help each other.
