Chapter 337 Paths.
Elysande got better in just a day because Mykel healed her and made her the healthiest in her whole life. She couldn't hold her happiness and hugged Mykel the moment she saw him still next to her bed when she woke up. The maids and the servants that were present in the room looked so happy for her because they missed her gentle and beautiful smile.
"Everyone is watching, My Lady," Mykel said as he hugged Elysande tightly.
"What's wrong with that? Everyone in the whole Imperial Quarter. I bet words have come out about our relationship," Elysande responded as she looked at the maids and the servants who were grateful for her recovery. "Can you guys leave for a moment? This might be inappropriate to all of you," she smiled with her eyebrows raised.
The maids were blushing and then hurriedly left with the servants, letting Elysande have her private time with Mykel. As soon as they left, she pulled Mykel onto the bed and sat on top of him as she caressed his face and admired it. She leaned and kissed him so passionately, and then Mykel embraced her and changed positions where he was on top of her.
"I'm not going to let you go ever again..." Elysande said as she kissed Mykel's neck. "I need you and I can't live without you," she continued and then wrapped her arms around his neck.
Elestria heard about Elysande's recovery, and she wanted to see her but she was afraid for the first time in her life. She decided to wait because she believed that Elysande would come to see her soon. Suddenly, her phone rang and she saw Melissa was the one who called her.
"Your Majesty, the twenty-first rift has appeared in the Verdentia Republic," Melissa said as she watched the news and saw the rift in the middle of the city.
"Is that so? But unfortunately, there's nothing I can do as the situation in the Isola Key Island is quite troublesome," Elestria responded as she read the document in her hand.
"I understand," Melissa nodded her head and then hung up the phone.
It wasn't true that the situation on Isola Key Island was troublesome, it was the excuse that Elestria gave to Melissa. The excuse that Melissa could tell the congress and the president that the Faelethria Kingdom couldn't give a hand.
Although it was the plan, Elestria had promised that she wouldn't ignore or even let innocent lives be sacrificed in her scheme. She would send Mykel if needed at the last second as the last resort. Now that it had come to this, Elestria could focus on the Dystrovia nation and tried to make an approach to the people who tried to take over the nation.
Melissa tapped the dining table as she watched the news about the rift with Zachary beside her. She was having a conflict with herself, a moral struggle when she believed it was wrong but she couldn't do anything. She was so obvious about it that Zachary noticed her troubled expression.
"Thinking whether what you're doing is right or wrong is like thinking which path you should take where both paths are dead-end or lead to the edge of a cliff. The problem is, in life, you can't turn around and you have to accept the consequences of the path you took earlier," Zachary said calmly as he fixed his mask. "My Lady, the only hand you can reach is Mykel's," he pointed out.
"I'm aware..." Melissa sighed as she stood up. "Can you prepare the car? It's about time for the meeting," she added.
Melissa attended the meeting since the rift had opened and they had to be the first to make the decision. She was listening to everyone and for the first time they all agreed to not take any action at the moment. The conflict started when one of the congressmen asked if they should seek help from the Faelethria Kingdom.
To avoid getting suspicion from all the congress, Melissa butted in and mentioned that the Faelethria Kingdom was busy dealing with the situation on the Isola Key Island. She also threaded the words carefully so that it sounded like Elestria wanted to help them but she couldn't. That gave some of the congresses the idea that Elestria was willing to help them without any hidden motive.
Arguments were thrown at each other as Melissa listened to them from the side. She watched how those people trusted every word she said and how she deceived them all made her feel guilty. She betrayed her colleagues, partners, and even friends who were present in the room.
"Congresswoman Evander, Mister President wants to see you," A woman was standing right behind Melissa.
Melissa nodded her head and left the room because she wondered why suddenly the president wanted to see her. She went to the president's office which was in a different building, and she was sitting on the couch where the president was talking with his secretary.
Evan Montgomery, the former Vice-president after Soren Evander died and became the president of Verdentia Republic. He was a good man, a noble man whom Melissa's late father Soren trusted his back and the image of him as well. He was close to Melissa and loved her like she was his own niece.

"Melissa, you always have a troubled expression every time I see you," Evan said as he sat down across from Melissa. "You can come to see me when you need someone to talk to. It worries me when you're dealing with everything on your own," he added.
"How can I not, Mister President? I'm thinking about the safety of the people and this nation, and it's not something that I need to convey because we all share the same burden and we have the same worries," Melissa answered.
Evan smiled and nodded his head repeatedly before he put a document on the table.
Melissa looked at the document and wondered what it was, and then Evan opened the document for him and the first thing she saw was her name as the candidate for the Vice-President position. She was shocked and thought she was reading it wrong but when she saw all the senators' signs and approval, she was sure that the document was legit.
"As you see, the Vice-President's seat has been vacant and we believe it's time to find someone to take the seat. It was me who decided the candidate, and they all agreed and believed you're the only one who's fit to sit on that position," Evan pointed out as he looked at the document. "You have a strong connection with all three nations, your amazing insight and your love for this nation is unparalleled. Your status as Congresswoman is a waste because you can make this nation greater and change the world with your status as the Vice-President," he added.
"When did everyone do the vote?" Melissa asked with a confused expression.
"Three days ago, and I apologize if we did it in secrecy because I know you don't believe that you're good enough for the position. But we, all of us believe you're the only one that befits the position," Evan answered and looked at Melissa. "You're not obligated to accept it and you can decline it. We will understand and won't ask the reason why. So there's no pressure and take your time to think about it," he continued.
Melissa's guilt went to the roof and she tried so hard to hide her expression and emotion since Evan was staring at her. She then closed her eyes to calm herself down and started to think about it calmly. She was thinking about what were the benefits and the downsides of the opportunity in front of her.
After she thought about it thoroughly, she concluded that it benefited both her and Elestria. She could try to make some boundaries between herself and Elestria while at the same time, she could offering Elestria something else in exchange for her nation. But knowing Elestria's personality and the deal they had made, it would only lead to the fall of the nation even faster and perhaps it would go down with an extreme force.
"I will think about it, Mister President. It's not something that I can decide right now," Melissa said.
"Please, take your time. We are not in a hurry and we will respect all the decisions you're going to make," Evan responded with a smile.
Melissa nodded and excused herself from the office still with a shocked expression. She was given an opportunity to make everything right again, but could she be able to do it or would she be the one that would pull the trigger on the fall of the nation? She had so many things going on in her mind, and for some reason, Mykel's face popped into her mind.
"Can we meet?" Melissa asked on the phone as soon as Mykel picked up the phone.
"What is it?" Mykel asked back and his voice was coming from the hallway rather than from Melissa's phone.
Melissa looked to her right and she was in disbelief when Mykel was there even though it was impossible for anyone to enter the House of Representatives. She almost dropped her phone when Mykel was leaning his shoulder against the wall with his arms crossed next to her.
"Is it really a surprise for someone like me to be able to do something like this?" Mykel asked with his eyebrows raised.
"Yes, it is..." Melissa nodded her head repeatedly and stared at Mykel.@@novelbin@@
