Chapter 341 Gruesome.
The rift in the Verdentia Republic became unstable and it was almost time for the rift to lose control and send the world inside into the world outside. With that being said, almost every Gifted from Verdentia decided to join the raid to protect their nation. It was the first time where fifty thousand people joined the raid and they were led by Zachary and Aston.
Unfortunately, Javelin couldn't join them because there were too many rifts to clear. The situation in Dystrovia became worse because the whole nation became outlaws and people killed each other for money. Even the Gifted stopped caring about the rift and tried to become the boss of the city they were living in. Experience exclusive tales on My Virtual Library Empire
Javelin had to work on her own and the members of her guild, only those who were loyal to her decided to stay. More than half of her members had left and became outlaws to try and grab a fortune for themselves. Although it sounded bad, Javelin was more than enough to deal with the rift and she hoarded the rewards, making her even stronger.
"Just because we have a lot of people joining the raid, I want you to keep your guards up. The place that we are about to enter, the environment alone is enough to kill us, so please keep that in mind and kill anything that moves," Zachary said as he looked at a hundred people in front of him, the leaders from different guilds.
They all nodded their heads with serious expressions because they knew what they were going to face. The demon named Nosteran, the Thousand-legged Queen. They thought the demon they were going to face was a centipede because of the title, but they were going to meet something that was beyond their imagination.
"We both will enter the rift and check the situation first. I want you to stick with the plan for everyone's safety," Zachary said and then he turned around and entered the rift with Aston.
As soon as Zachary and Aston entered the rift, they were welcomed by dozens of insects and arachnids. They were ready to inject their venomous fangs and claws at them, but they both dodged them all and lured them away from the rift.
Zachary brought half to the west while Aston brought the rest to the east. They both weren't overwhelmed by the monsters and they handled the situation easily until the rest of the Gifted entered the rift and helped them.
"This gauntlet, I need one more for my right hand," Aston said as he looked at the dark purple gauntlet on his left hand up to his shoulder. "You said this is a reward for killing the demon?" he asked Zachary who checked the blade of his sword.
"It's basically a piece of armor. I don't know why they only give me a piece, but since I don't really need it, you can have it," Zachary answered.
"Are you sure? This gauntlet can enhance your strength and enhance your ability to wield a weapon," Aston had checked the power of the gauntlet.
"I don't need something like that. I don't want to be dependent on my power too much because I need to sharpen my skill," Zachary answered as he sheathed his sword. "It's not time for chat. We need to keep moving and explore this whole forest," he pointed out.
Everyone explored the dark forest for half a day and they couldn't see the exit. They didn't know if it was daytime or nighttime because of the massive trees and their leaves that covered the sky. The atmosphere became a lot heavier the longer they explored the forest because of the monsters that became more active and aggressive.
A day passed, three days passed, and then a week passed inside the dark forest. They were in disbelief when they saw the rift after they had explored the forest for a week. They were moving in circles and it felt like the forest was alive and manipulated them into walking in circles.
"It's not possible. We made sure that we left marks on the path we took. There are hundreds of teams and we should have known if we were moving in a circle since we would encounter each other," A man explained and he was anxious about the situation.
"Calm down," Zachary said as he looked around and wondered what had happened. "We are aware that it won't be easy. Get a hold of yourself and check your men, makes sure everyone is okay," he added.@@novelbin@@
They decided to rest for the day to make sure everyone was in the right mind knowing they had been seeing trees, insects, arachnids, and any venomous and disgusting creatures that could kill them. Zachary and Aston decided to patrol around the forest once more to check out what was going on.
"Have you experienced something like this before during your time clearing rifts?" Aston asked.
"No, I have never experienced something like this before. This is a problem because I don't think everyone can handle the stress if they have to keep doing this for another week," Zachary answered and looked up into the trees. "I have an idea. We should climb the trees and try to reach the top so we can see what was beyond this dark forest," he pointed out.
"Fuck it, let's do it," Aston answered as he nodded his head.
They both climbed up the trees and Aston was faster than Zachary because he reached the top of the tree a minute earlier. He looked like a monkey and his grips were so strong that he could leap and grab on the trunk easily.
When they both looked at the dark purple sky, the atmosphere became heavier. They thought the forest was already emitting such heavy pressure, but the outside was on another level. They brushed it off and looked around to see if they were anywhere near the open field, but all they saw was a forest and even though they could see mountains, they were way beyond their reach.
"Do you think we should be out there?" Aston asked.
Zachary didn't answer his question, and it made Aston look at him with a curious look. He noticed that Zachary was paying attention to something in the distance, and when he looked at where Zachary was looking, he noticed the trees in the distance were shaking.
"It's coming toward us at high speed..." Zachary said quietly.
The trees were miles away from them, but in just a few seconds, whatever shook the trees was already a mile away from them. They both couldn't warn the others because it was already too late and preferred to find out what was coming toward them.
"The trees are shaking, and yet we don't feel the ground tremble. Does that mean, whatever that thing is, is going toward us by jumping from one tree to another?" Aston asked as he gulped.
"Who knows? I think it has the ability to move quietly or lightly feet which makes it impossible to hear and feel them. We need to go down a bit and see more clearly," Before Zachary could climb down, the trees in front of them stopped shaking. "Did you see where it went?" he asked quietly.
Aston shook his head slowly as he stared at Zachary because he was as shocked as him when the trees stopped shaking when he blinked his eyes for a split second. They both decided to climb down the trees slowly and quietly and when they looked around, they didn't see anything even though the creature was only twenty meters away from them.
It was so quiet, so quiet that the insects stopped making noises and there wasn't a single creature that could be seen. It wasn't just those two who noticed it, everyone noticed it and they were wary of the silence. They couldn't help but feel chills down their spines and their hearts started racing as they looked around the forest.
Suddenly everyone could hear a loud gargling scream from the distance of a woman. They didn't hesitate and ran toward where the scream was coming from, they were worried that the other team was being ambushed by monsters. But when they arrived, the team on the furthest parameter was fine, nobody was hurt.
Because almost half of them were going to that side of the forest, there were only a few of them left in their camps. That was when they saw the terrifying demon that was looking down at them with her super wide mouth and teeth that looked like saws. They saw thousands of legs coming out of her back and each of the legs was stabbed in the trees so she was floating above them.
This time, thousands of screams were heard from the distance, coming from near the rift. They realized they were lured out and left those behind to be massacred by the monster. When they came back, nobody survived, they all died a gruesome death where their body parts were missing, eyes wide and mouths wide open. They could see the horror in their expressions, and it affected them deeply.
It was the first time for Aston to see such a scene and he felt sick in the stomach. He then threw up because he saw so many of them throw up when they saw the gruesome deaths of their friends. Zachary on the other hand was as calm as ever and thought about what to do.
"Burn the woods..." Zachary said. "Burn the whole thing down," he emphasized.
What do you think?
