Destroying My Own World

Chapter 351 Familiar feeling.

Evan did his public apology and he gave a long speech for everything that he did wrong. The response from the public was heartbreaking because they were cheering and cursing him for his failure. They compared him to Melissa's late father and made him look like a useless and incompetent person for making the nation collapse and making the people suffer.

Melissa who watched the response of the people couldn't help but feel guilty because she couldn't do anything to fix Evan's image. She was pained and she couldn't stop blaming herself even though Evan's family was there with her, comforting her.

After all the government officials officially stepped down from their positions, Melissa went to her inauguration ceremony to swear to become the president of the Verdentia Republic. The people were cheering for her, and even though the ceremony wasn't that grandiose or big, it was the most crowded ceremony in the history of the Verdentia Republic. Millions of people were gathered to watch it with their own eyes when Melissa swore her life to the nation and its people.

Melissa gave a short speech to the people about what she truly felt about the situation. She cried in front of millions of people, and she poured all her emotions into her speech, making people understand her pain. They all stopped showing their hatred for those former officials and focused on rebuilding the nation with Melissa.

As soon as Melissa gave her speech, the sky suddenly turned dark and everyone was looking up in the sky because there was something odd about it. They watched as the wind was forming in the sky and bolts of lightning struck the same spot where the wind was gathering. It was terrifying to look at and deafening to hear, but then a rift was opened, ripping the space open all the way down to the ground.

Zachary was guarding the stage when his phone rang, it was Javelin who called him. He then picked up the phone and heard that something similar had happened in Dystrovia Nation. He then received a message from Mykel if a rift appeared in Verdentia or not because he saw a rift appear in the Faelethria Kingdom. He concluded that the three nations experienced the same event and that it wasn't just a coincidence.

"Go," Melissa looked at Zachary. "Bring everyone because I have a bad feeling about this," she added.

Zachary nodded and left to the location where the rift was with Aston and all the Gifted that were present in the ceremony. It took him an hour to arrive at the rift, and he couldn't stop trembling and chilling on his back when he was exposed by the aura that the rift produced.

"This is completely different from any rifts we have encountered so far. What do you is inside this massive rift?" Aston asked as he hugged himself because he couldn't stop trembling and having a chill on his back.

"I don't want to assume anything, but don't you think this feeling feels familiar?" Zachary asked as he kept staring at the rift.

Aston took a moment to realize when he remembered the mysterious woman with massive black feather wings that appeared from a rift. The same feeling that he felt back then, and it made him look a bit pale because he knew he wasn't strong enough to fight that woman and neither was anyone around him.

"Do you think this rift will lead us to her?" Aston asked as he gulped nervously.

"As I said earlier. I don't want to assume anything and I really hope that it's not the case," Zachary answered. "Not with these people at least. If Javelin is here, or Mykel's team is here, we might have a chance," he continued.

"Well, do we really have a choice here?" Aston asked as he clenched his fists and tried to overcome his nervousness.

"No we don't," Zachary answered as he turned around and saw hundreds of thousands of Gifted had gathered. "I just hope nobody died, that's all that matters because as long as we survive, we can try again and again," he assured.

After all the Gifted had gathered, Zachary warned everyone that it would be best to retreat if the situation became too much to handle. It wasn't because he wasn't confident with the raid team, it was because everyone wasn't in perfect condition knowing they had been suffering from hunger. They didn't have enough food to do a raid, but since the situation was an emergency and an urgent one, they had no choice but to deal with it as a precaution.

They entered the rift, and as soon as they entered the world inside the rift, they felt like being burned alive. The heat was too much and it made those who couldn't handle the heat immediately leave the rift. Almost seventy percent of the team left the raid because of the heat, even Zachary who had high resistance couldn't help but sweat from it.

Before they could get used to the heat, they were welcomed by dozens of flying creatures. The creatures were terrifyingly ugly and scary because of their appearance and each noise they made enough to put fear in them. The creatures were different from the monsters they had been dealing with ever since the invasion began.

"These aren't monsters, these more of like demons," Aston mentioned as he managed to defeat one demon with its glowing red eyes, long nails, bat wings, and razor-sharp teeth.

"Looks like this time the invasion is a real deal. They're on another level compared to those monsters," Zachary responded after he cut the demons in half. "It's not time to talk about this, the others are struggling to even block the demons' attacks," he continued as he rushed to help the others.

The first wave of demons was devastating enough as so many got badly injured, making them have to leave. Of the remaining team, only ten percent could keep on moving, and it was impossible to clear the rift with only a few people and how the heat worsened the further they went.

"This isn't going to work. We need to go back," Zachary said after he realized most of the team members had started to hallucinate. "At least we know what we are dealing with," he pointed out as he led the team back to the rift.

On their way back to the rift, they heard an explosion and felt the ground shake in the distance. They were worried that something big had awakened, but then they saw smoke which made them think it wasn't a demon or a monster, but someone did it.

"You guys keep going back, I'll go and take a look. You take care of the team," Zachary said to Aston and then left to see where the explosion was coming from.

Of course, Aston didn't want to be left on something interesting so he chose someone else to take the lead. He went to catch up with Zachary, and when Zachary saw him coming, he already knew Aston would do something like that.

They heard the explosion again and it was closer than they thought, and when they saw the smoke, they saw people in the distance. They were shocked when they saw those people, fighting the demons.

"Javelin?!" Aston looked at Javelin leading the team and obliterated the demons.

Javelin was shocked as well when she saw Aston and Zachary, but she immediately pointed her staff at them because she didn't know if they were truly who they were. She didn't want to risk her life and the raid members that she led for something that she wanted to believe in.

"It's us! We came from the other side and we came here when we heard about the explosion. We thought a demon had awakened or something," Aston explained, but his explanation wasn't enough to convince Javelin.

"Javelin, do you still remember when you threw up like a fountain and when you—" Zachary asked.

"Stop! I believe you!" Javelin shouted and she looked embarrassed as she put down her staff.

Zachary explained to her what happened to their team and why they were the only ones who came to see her.

"I see, so that means the rifts are connected from one with the other. If that's the case, then does that mean Mykel's team is also here with us somewhere?" Javelin asked after she digested the information given by Zachary and Aston. "Ah, speaking of the devil," she looked at the top of the hill and saw ten people standing.

The Five Sinners and the Big Bosses were watching them from above. They came because they heard the explosion as well, and wondered if a strong demon had appeared, but they all looked disappointed when they saw Javelin and the others.

"Long time no see," Mykel appeared right behind Javelin, Zachary, and Aston. "So we are back together again it seems," he added and looked at them startled because of his sudden appearance, but not Zachary who had gotten used to it.

"It appears so, and I'm glad that we can raid together again," Zachary responded as he looked at Mykel.

"I don't think everyone here is glad that I'm here," Mykel glanced at Aston who was pissed. He knew exactly why Aston was pissed since he wasn't a part of Mykel's scheme. "Do you have something to say?" he asked Aston.

"Elestria's dog..." Aston gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.@@novelbin@@

"If I'm a dog..." Mykel grabbed Aston's face before Aston could react. "Then what are you?" he lifted Aston and slammed him to the ground so hard that he passed out and broke his spine.

Javelin and Zachary were surprised that Mykel reacted to the insult differently and they didn't expect him to show any mercy to Aston.

"Don't get me wrong. I don't want to waste my time here dealing with this kind of stuff. I need to clear the rift as fast as possible," Mykel explained. "It's up to you if you want to follow me or not. I'm in a hurry," he added.

Mykel left with his team following from the hill because they didn't want to go down there. Zachary and Javelin were taken aback for a moment and decided to follow him while Aston was being carried by Zachary.
