Destroying My Own World

Chapter 357 The fall and the rise.

"Apparently, Mykel is already back in the palace," Javelin looked at the message from Victoria. "He collapsed during his meeting with Queen Elestria and said he was like a dying person," she added.

Zachary and Aston were looking at the people working on the farms, redoing the crops that were destroyed by the opposition party. The reason why Javelin was with them was because she could make the soil in perfect condition.

"He was fine though? And he didn't do anything though? Did they know why he collapsed?" Aston looked at Javelin sitting on top of the haystack.

"He's fine now, but I think it was because he saved Zach's life back there. I don't know how bad it was for you, but having a Goddess to possess your body, you shouldn't be alive right now," Javelin put her phone in her pocket and looked at Zachary with her eyes squinted.

"I owe him my life, twice or even thrice by now," Zachary nodded his head in agreement. "You're right about that. I shouldn't be here if it wasn't for him," he stated and blankly stared at the distance.

Zachary's phone rang and it was Melissa who called him, and when he picked up the phone he looked a bit troubled. Javelin and Aston were curious why he made that kind of expression, and when Zachary hung up the phone he excused himself.

"Where are you going?" Aston asked.

"The verdict has been announced..." Zachary paused to sigh. "The leader of the opposition party is given the death penalty and I have to be there to witness it," he added.

Aston and Javelin didn't say anything and then nodded their heads with understanding.

Zachary went to the prison and went into the chamber where the execution was held. He looked at all the witnesses sitting in a separate room with big glass in the chamber. They were going to watch and make sure the leader was dead in front of their eyes and report it to the world.

Everyone in the separate room was shocked as they stood up and looked at someone who entered the chamber. Zachary glanced at the door and he was as shocked as them because Melissa was standing in front of the door.

"Miss President?!" Zachary furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Melissa in disbelief.

Melissa didn't say anything and stood next to Zachary without showing any expression, but her eyes were filled with pain. Not long after she came in, Erickson, the leader of the opposition party came in with guards that escorted him into the chamber.

Everyone watched as Erickson sat on the chair, tied all his limbs with belts by the guards. A doctor came in with a suitcase in his hand and then he put the suitcase on the table. He grabbed a syringe and a small bottle from the suitcase, the execution method was the lethal injection.

After the doctor put the liquid into the syringe, he walked toward the chair but was stopped by Melissa. He was confused and he noticed that Melissa was staring at the syringe in between his fingers.

"Let me do it," Melissa said with a serious and determined expression. "Give it to me," she looked at the doctor.

"But Miss President, this isn't—" The doctor was panicking.

"I want to do the honor, please doctor," Melissa cut the doctor off before he could finish his sentence. "I was involved in the verdict, I was the one who put him in that chair, and it would be right if I'm the one who did it," she pointed out.

The doctor didn't know what to do and as his last resort, he looked at Zachary to stop Melissa. When he saw Zachary nodding his head, he had no reason to stop Melissa, and so he gave the syringe heavy-heartedly.

Melissa stood in front of Erickson who was still in disbelief and baffled by her presence. She looked at the syringe and knew she was going to kill someone with her own hands.

"I want all of you to write every word I said," Melissa looked at the people behind the glass. "Let the people of this nation know the content of my heart," she added.

Everyone grabbed their laptops, notes, and phones to record her voice so it would be hard to manipulate. They were looking at Melissa without blinking their eyes and kept their ears wide open.

"Erickson, do you understand why are you here and what you did to this nation?" Melissa asked.@@novelbin@@

"Yes. I admit that I endanger not only this nation but every person that lives in this nation," Erickson answered with his head lowered. "I deserve this and I have prepared for this moment," he added.

"You're mistaken, Erickson," Melissa said with a serious expression. "You're here because you saved this nation from collapsing," she pointed out.

Everyone stopped writing and looked at Melissa with dumbfounded expressions on their faces. Erickson was confused and didn't know what to react to or to say after he heard that.

"You're a terrorist who made this whole nation crumble and people would agree with what I said. But, for some, you're their hero for reforming this nation and preventing this nation from collapsing," Melissa explained as she looked at the syringe in her hand. "Now if the people asked me what's my take on this, my answer will lie in the future," she said.

Everyone looked at Melissa and wondered what she was going to say next.

"After your death has been announced, you're no longer the one who will receive the hate from the people because if I fail to rebuild this nation, I will be the one who takes the blame. If I managed to rebuild this nation, they don't have to praise me because it's my obligation, my responsibility," Melissa said as she stared Erickson in the eye. "But you, you're the one who gave me the opportunity to rebuild this nation. You sacrificed yourself for this nation and its future. You may still be called a terrorist or a hero, but you will be a figure to be remembered," she pointed out.

"In the end, you're still in the wrong for endangering people's lives, but is that really all there is to it? That's for the living to unfold the mystery," Melissa smiled pitifully. "My last words for you are, it's time for you to rest because you have lived your life to the fullest," she continued and put the syringe on Erickson's wrist.

"I believe in you, Miss President, everyone in this nation would agree with me," Erickson smiled and then closed his eyes.

Melissa injected the needle and pushed the lethal substance into Erickson's vein, making him sleepy until he finally breathed his last breath. She carefully pulled out the needle from his wrist and then gave the syringe to the doctor. She then left the chamber with Zachary following her from behind, and not long after she left, she lost her strength and Zachary had to help her stand up.

That scenery was being watched by everyone, and they admired her that she had to be strong in front of her people. At that moment they realized and understood that she was a normal human being like everyone else. It was a sight to see and deep down they thought that they should do their best for others, not just for themselves.

The news and the recordings went public about her words during the execution. People understood her, some questioned her, but everyone knew that she was a figure that they would look up to. She wasn't like any leader who only showed their heads up high, she showed her vulnerability to the public and made them all respect her rather than question her credibility as a leader. Her willingness to confront the challenges of her role head-on, including carrying out a difficult execution, contributed to shaping her image as a leader who takes responsibility for her actions.

Melissa was getting busy reforming the government and finding the best candidates that would please the people. Their voices mattered and she showed transparency of the candidates and let the people voice their opinions. Although it sounded troublesome, surprisingly, people could tell that Melissa took her time to choose the candidates as those candidates had shown their achievements in the past. She poured everything not to only please the people but also what was best for the nation.

It took a while because she let the people vote for the government official's position. The candidates that got chosen were obligated to give a speech to the people, a promise to the people. Every candidate was expressing and poured their hearts into the speech they gave.

They weren't the only ones who gave the speech, Melissa also gave her speech and assured the people that those chosen candidates would be stripped of their positions if they didn't do their jobs. As compassionate as she was, she showed her strict side when it came to becoming a public servant. Of course, even if it sounded really harsh, she encouraged all the public servants and the people to work together to achieve the goal. The nation was built not by governments but also by the people, so she encouraged everyone should support each other.

"That was a good speech," Zachary said as he drove the car.

"Words mean nothing without action. The real thing starts from here," Melissa responded as she looked out the window and saw people were cheering for her.
