Chapter 429 Peace.
Mykel removed his gloves after he was done fixing the roof of the cabin, and then he stared at the green field with mountains in the distance. He looked at the flower garden that Lyneth planted added more colors to the place they were living at. He then jumped down and went back to the house, a simple and small house.
"Dinner is ready," Lyneth looked at Mykel covered in sweat. "Thank you for fixing the cabin. It should be safe from the rain from now on," she looked at the cabin through the window.
"It should be," Mykel nodded in agreement and then looked up at the stairs. "Elena? Dinner is ready," he said, but there was no response.
Mykel walked up the stairs and went to Elena's room where he heard music playing from inside. He knocked on the door and entered the room to check on her, but he found Elena sleeping with her earphones on. She was in her six-year-old form, and somehow she acted like it as well.
Mykel sat on the bed and looked at Elena sleeping peacefully, thinking that it had been six years since they left after the wedding. He looked at neighbors' houses where people lived like him, normal people with normal life. It was the world that Lyneth made, and it somehow didn't feel off or special.
"Elena, Mom made your favorite food," Mykel gently put his hand on Elena's foot.
Elena opened her eyes and looked out the window where the sky had turned dark. She yawned and then slowly sat up and climbed on Mykel's back, asking him to carry her to the dining room. Mykel didn't say anything and carried her downstairs to the dining table.
The three of them ate dinner together like a normal family, asking about each other's day. Elena went to school and it wasn't a surprise that she was the smartest kid in school. She was the star of the school and every parent hoped that their kid would be like her.
"Tomorrow is Saturday, do you want to go on a trip? I heard you got an assignment from school," Mykel looked at Elena.

"Green Hill," Elena answered as she ate her asparagus. "I have a school project about bugs and I need to get one for it and bring it to school," she added.
"Should we go camping as well then?" Lyneth looked at both of them with excitement. "I'll make a lot of food," she added and checked if she had enough ingredients for tomorrow.
"Mom, please don't make too much food. I have gained too much weight and I don't want to be fat," Elena looked at Lyneth while frowning. "Dad would become fat if you keep feeding him too much food too, you know?" She looked at Mykel and he couldn't imagine what he looked like if he became fat.
Lyneth looked at Mykel and she thought the same thing, and somehow she wanted to see Mykel gain weight. She could tell that he had gained a bit of weight ever since they moved to this place. She was happy that he gained weight because of the food she made for him.
"Lyn," Mykel shook his head slowly because he didn't want to gain weight and become fat.
"Why not? I'll still love you no matter what," Lyneth smiled as she rested her head on her fist, admiring Mykel's handsome face. "Also, I'm tired of you getting hit by other women too," she pointed out.
"Wow, she wants to make you ugly, Dad," Elena looked at Mykel and started giggling.
The dinner became lively and they enjoyed the evening together in the living room.
They went to Green Hill and camped there as Lyneth suggested with a lot of food that she prepared for them. The place was empty with nobody around them, only nature and tall grass around them. It was peaceful and they had no single worries about anything and enjoyed the moment.
"Mykel, do you remember what I said a long time ago when I was still pregnant?" Lyneth leaned her head on Mykel's right shoulder, watching the lake with Elena looking for bugs. "I dreamt that the three of us were in this place. You were holding Elena and carrying her on your shoulders," she said.
Mykel remembered it and hummed as he nodded his head.
"I'm not sure if that dream wasn't a dream but a glimpse of the future, or it was just my subconscious, and the power that I possess made that dream come true," Lyneth said and she was in a daze, thinking about it.
"I don't think that matters," Mykel held Lyneth's hand and he could see her hands became rough after living a life as a housewife. "What matters is that we are living the dream right now. I want this kind of life too, and it's thanks to you," he added and looked at Lyneth's face which grew a bit older than six years ago.
Lyneth smiled with her eyes closed, enjoying the breeze and the smell of grass around her. She looked so peaceful and she looked like she had no regrets in her life.
Ten years flew by in the blink of an eye, and Elena started to show off her rebellious phase. Although she became rebellious, she knew her boundaries and still showed Mykel and Lyneth that she was doing her best.
"Mom is sick? How?" Elena came down with a toast of bread in her mouth.
"She's feeling under the weather. Maybe she's just tired," Mykel answered as he made breakfast. "Where did you get that bread? I didn't know you make one," he looked at Elena with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh, this was my late-night snack. I forgot to eat it..." Elena answered and went to the bedroom to check on Lyneth. "I'll have breakfast with Mom," she said as she walked the hallway.
"Mom? Are you asleep?" Elena peeked her head and looked at the bedroom. She saw Lyneth staring out the glass door in her sleeping dress. "Mom?" She entered the room and approached Lyneth.
Lyneth turned around and she looked tired and a bit pale, and when she smiled, she looked a bit weak. Elena felt something was off about Lyneth, and no matter how hard she tried to look into Lyneth's condition, her power couldn't reach it.
"You haven't showered? You have school today," Lyneth asked as she looked at Elena and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Seeing you like this makes me happy. You look so beautiful without the tattoos and piercings," she said as she caressed Elena's cheeks.
Elena didn't buy Lyneth's compliment and kept staring at her with a serious expression. She looked frustrated and concerned at the same time, making Lyneth feel bad for hiding it from her.
"Let's go to the dining table first," Lyneth pinched Elena's cheeks gently and then held Elena's hand, guiding her to the dining table.
The three of them sat at the dining table and Lyneth was sitting in between Mykel and Elena. They were enjoying their breakfast except for Elena who kept staring at Lyneth's weak body and how Lyneth had wrinkles on her face.
"I told you that you would know when the time comes, and I think you already know what it is now, don't you?" Lyneth looked at Mykel with her eyebrows raised.
Mykel didn't say anything and only nodded his head as he kept eating his breakfast. Although he knew what had happened to Lyneth's condition, he didn't know the reason behind it.
"This is the consequence of getting rid of the clock back then," Lyneth said as she held a fork and looked at the scrambled eggs on her plate. "The clock is the source of existence, and without it, everything would cease to exist. So how did I manage to get rid of it and keep everything? The answer to that is I sacrifice myself and become like the clock," she explained and ate the scrambled eggs.
Mykel stopped chewing his food while Elena dropped her utensils and both of them stared at Lyneth in disbelief. Although Mykel knew that it was one of the possibilities, he hated that he was always right about his hunch.
"Before you two say anything, no, it's irreversible. My physical body is going to disappear, and my whole existence will be the observer of all realms. I'm not dying, it's just I won't be able to have a physical body anymore," Lyneth explained as she kept eating. "It's the price for what I did, and it was the only way to end it once and for all," she added.
"How much time do you have left?" Mykel asked and looked at Lyneth.
"I'm not sure, maybe a year or at most two years from now," Lyneth answered and she looked a bit regretful for hiding it from both of them.
Elena slammed her hands on the table and then she left without saying anything. She was furious that Lyneth had sacrificed herself and hid it from her all this time. She got rid of her facade and turned herself back to how she used to look and then left that world. She felt sick and felt betrayed because if she knew she could have done something rather than wasting her time pretending.
"I'm sorry that I hid it from both of you..." Lyneth looked at Mykel who looked displeased by the truth.
"I'm not angry because I would do the same," Mykel responded as he stood up and then stood behind Lyneth. "Two years is a long time. I'll treasure my time with you and I'll be by your side until the time comes," he hugged Lyneth from behind and then kissed her left cheek.
"Hm. Thank you," Lyneth looked sad and happy at the same time.
What do you think?
