Chapter 243 Payback feather

After having his eyes opened by Uriel and gaining a significant amount of power, Sam decided to take matters into his own hands and while the mining crew kept busy deploying the tier 2 batteries, he headed towards the Celes camp and spied on them.

After losing most of the soldiers that tagged along, the army pulled back most of its resources, at least during the investigation. But they couldn't do it entirely or they would break the contract Ethan stroke with Tina's father.@@novelbin@@

Because of that, they needed to provide some basic resources and at least one colonel, but that didn't mean it would need to be a capable one and they chose Cassandra to fill the gap left by the late colonel Windfire. However, she turned out to be much more capable than they expected.

The Celes encampent was comprised of ten different tents which served as both housing and protection from espionage, something that Sam noticed as soon as he had a clear line of sight to it.

The tents were placed in a circle surrounding the shadow being cast by the island floating above, and the soldiers worked their way to the center using plasma cannons to get rid of any hostile cryptids and from what Sam was able to see, they were doing a spectacular job.

They moved in an orderly fashion and the newly appointed colonel Sword kept everyone in line which didn't add up with the picture both Luna and Uriel painted about her.

Both of them described Cassandra as violently rebel and as someone who would always have the last word in any conversation. Something like that didn't go well with the army's mentality but it seemed that being in the highest position in her detachment countered that.

If there were no superiors to disrespect all she had to do was to make sure no soldiers defied their orders.

Sam watched with a gaping mouth how Cassandra kicked someone to the ground just because he made a mistake while mounting their mining laser hull.

"I need to take matters into my own hands, become my own man." Sam muttered to himself.

From the minute he separated from his group he had already made up his mind to get some payback off of the Celes company. He saw everything that happened, he saw how Mark hurled a fireball at one of the air spirit women who was flying without so much of a warning which sent the benevolent air spirit people into chaos.

When Swallow chief showed up to rescue the fallen air spirit woman, he was greeted with all the might of the huge plasma cannons developed by the Celes company with the help of the university. The blasts were so powerful, even Swallow chief who was impossibly strong for his rank as an entity level cryptid was badly wounded.

It wasn't the fault of the soldier who shot the first plasma ball, it wasn't Cassandra's fault either, but all of them committed a sin Sam would not forgive.

"According to Uriel, I have a skill that allows me to manipulate air." Sam spoke to himself in the absolute darkness, his gleaming eyes lighting only the upper half of his face.

He focused some flux on his hands, feet, shoulders, but nothing happened. Activating his trait was like breathing, something he could do without thinking, but skills were different. They needed some experimentation and sometimes, they even had hidden requirements.

He moved, jumped and did all sorts of silly movements that reminisced those old martial arts cartoons until he finally realized something. The skill wasn't his, it was given to him by his cryptid wife.

Sam closed his eyes and focused some of the flux on the single feathered earring he was wearing and he felt as though the air surrounding him had become his own body.

He could move faster, glide and even hurl gusts of wind that could prove to be useful in a fight, though the true reason why he wanted to try his new found power was to harness a power that already existed in that place and that could potentially cause a lot of damage to the Celes company without being found.

After all, everyone knew his trait was related to his sight and no one would suspect he was currently in possession of an artifact that allowed him to manipulate air. Even if the army investigated, they wouldn't find a single hunter with an air manipulation trait in the Dungoen Raiders company.

He knew it well because he remembered the files of every single member that joined them thanks to his eidetic memory.

It was as though all the stars aligned just to give him a chance to avenge the Air spirit people.

Sam walked towards the floating island that hovered right above the Celes camp and climbed up with the help of the long roots that tethered it to the ground.

As soon as he reached the bottom of the island, he opened fire towards a single spot at the distance until his intermediate rifle ran out of energy, then he popped a tier 2 battery, then another until a hole the size of a penny was dug letting out the steaming hot air that filled the island.

It started like a focused jet stream of air coming out with such force it could have torn a huge hole on the bottom of the floating island, but because of the intense heat, even the rock would melt and seal the hole. That was something Sam wasn't counting on, but he was well equipped to prevent it.

Sam closed his eyes again and manipulated the air in such manner that the hole couldn't be sealed and the stream of air soon became ten times stronger than the air coming out from a zeppelin's engine at full thrust.

After succeeding in his task, Sam let go of the root and glide his way back towards his camp turning his head from time to time to see his unsuspecting victims with an unsightly grin on his face.
