Chapter 244 Too far
Although the Dungeon Raiders company had the smallest mining crew of the three factions involved in the operation, they were taking the lead in the mining process because of all the unintentional preparation work Uriel made by creating the quadrants and locating the vein which gave them the upper hand in spite of the small setback caused by the late delivery of their mining equipment.
By the time even the Mapple corporation had located their first vein, Uriel was already striking the vein with a pickaxe. At first he was excited, even the smallest chunk of orichalcum could be worth a fortune after being processed and that gave Uriel enough motivation to make his best effort but after a while it was clear he wasn't cut out to be a miner.
"Why did they even hire him? Is he even an ascended?" Said one of the Armstrong family members after watching Uriel struggle against the rock. Since orichalcum was so tough it took a lot of time and effort to break it, even after overloading it with energy and the best way to do it was to focus on a single spot.
Because of that, they took turns while hitting the rock. Faithful to their names, the Armstrongs were all very muscular and they possessed a variety of physical enhancing traits that made them as strong as a heavenly rank which allowed them to cause some damage to the orichalcum vein. Uriel, though, was barely able to scratch its surface.
"Leave him alone, he's doing his best." Miss Dragonfang defended him.
"Yeah, let the kid be. He's half your size and he's obviously not as strong as the rest of us, but look at him! He hits the rock like it holds a grudge against it." The leader of the Armstrong party laughed without a hint of mockery.
From the little time Uriel knew him he noticed how sincere he was After meeting so many jerks in his life, meeting him felt refreshing and heartwarming.
"Wow, look at you, you pulled a muscle!" Sam said after rushing in and grabbing Uriel by the shoulder.
"Huh? I'm fine."
"No, you're not! I'll take you to the infirmary right now!"
"Oh, right. Owie my muscle." Uriel faked it so obviously the rest of the guys were left dumbfounded. Still, they thought that if the leader of their combat division pulled him out from the mining team he must have had his reasons.
"What got into you?" Uriel asked with a scowl.
"I did it!" Sam replied with a smile, though Uriel didn't know what he was talking about.
"What exactly did you do?"
"I sabotaged the Celes," He said in a whisper, even though they were far away from anyone. "I poked a hole in their island and it's losing its air. The whole thing is going to fall over them and they won't even notice it until it's too late. In fact, it's already starting its descent."
"Why would you do something like that!?" Uriel angrily grabbed Sam by the collar.
"What? I'm just doing what you told me to. I took matters into my own hands."
"Sam, how could you be so stupid. A lot of people might be killed."
"It's on them, they attacked the kind Air spirit people without reason and drove away my wife. They even hurt Swallow chief!"
"I know, but some of them are innocent workers hired by the Celes company, just like the Armstrong dudes we hired," Sam remained unfazed, in fact, he looked proud. "Can't you see what you just did? You just took the cryptid's side on the war, you took a stance against humanity."
"No, I didn't I just wanted to take revenge."
"Sam!" Uriel shouted. "If the island falls on them they will die causing a lot of harm to the Celes company, the most important company in our city, which will affect our city's defenses greatly. The orichalcum vein they found will be buried under what's left of the island, causing a huge delay in the weapon production. Not even the Mapple corporation dared to hinder us more than half a day!
and on top of that you did it for a cryptid!"
"What have I done!? Uriel, what have I done!? Am I really against humanity? Am I evil? What If they find out? I'm screwed!" Sam began crying just like in the past, when he was scared of his own shadow.
"Calm down, maybe if we rush over to help them we might salvage the situation."
"Help them?" Sam asked. He didn't mean to cause too much harm, but he was also very reluctant to lend a hand to those who attacked the Air spirit people.
"Of course we need to help them... and charge them for our troubles. We'll charge so much they'd wish they died." Uriel said with a grin.
"That's just evil."
"Hey, I'm not the idiot who tried to drop an island on them. Besides, they can die for all I care, I just don't want us having anything to do with it." Uriel shrugged.
"Alright, I'll call the fighters and get them ready."
"No," Uriel shook his head. "What are they going to do? Help lift the island with their bare hands? Besides, we can't let our mining crew without protection. What we need is to convince them and I think I know how, but I'll need the tier 3 batteries and I can't use them without letting everyone know I was a part of the company from before."
Sam immediately understood what Uriel wanted to do and headed towards their camp and returned with a handful of tier 3 batteries, which they then used to recharge the clay figurine.@@novelbin@@
"It'd be great if we had some flux orbs too, last time the jaguar was wounded and it's taking him a lot of time to heal." Uriel let out as the figure of a scruffy jaguar appeared amidst sparks of light. It's fur was disheveled and some patches were missing, but at least the wound had healed for the most part.
