Chapter 275 Uncle Part 2
"What do you mean? It's my uncle." Uriel shrugged.
"There's no one here, I don't hear anything." Emma latched on Uriel's arm at the realization that something was more wrong than she had initially thought.
There were many clues that hinted her that something was off about Uriel's past. Prior to joining college he had no friends, no paper trace of any kind and his online presence was null. All of those things weren't uncommon by themselves, but put together they painted the picture of a living ghost.
Someone who was able to avoid all social interactions, any kind of government agency and even the internet. Such a thing was completely unheard of but the only way to find out the truth was to venture forward and see it for herself.
"Let's go." Uriel said as he walked inside the room. Contrary to Emma, his pulse was steady and her comment was the only thing that seemed out of place.
The room was bathed by the weak light provided by the sole gas lantern in the room revealing a dirty mattress with so many black stains its original color couldn't be guessed but, other than that, there was nothing of note in the room.
"Uncle, she's Emma and I think she might be from our family."
"Our family? That's impossible, they're all dead." The uncle replied, though on Emma's eyes there was no one in the room.
"Uriel, you're acting like a madman. There's no one in this room besides us. Wait, does your uncle have a trait? Maybe he's hiding somewhere."
"Judging by your grades I wouldn't have thought you'd be so irrational. This isn't his room but mine, he lives in there." Uriel pointed at a black crack on the wall, too small for any person to fit in, and yet still wide enough to hide all the possible terrors on Emma's imagination.
Seeing Uriel remain so calm somewhat reassured her and she doubted herself. He was a jerk to her all the time, but not once had he shown any hint of being stupid.
"Where does that crack lead to?"
"I don't know, I never fit inside." Uriel pondered.
"Then... your uncle... how does he?" Emma gulped down her saliva.
"I-I... I don't know." Uriel began breathing rapidly and he grabbed on his head as though trying to keep it on its rightful place as a painful headache bombarded him with pain. "I don't know, I don't know!"
Just as Emma was getting ready to run to the exit, four tentacle like limbs appeared shyly from the wall feeling up the rim of the crevasse that ha been polished after so many years of comings and goings of the thing that dwelled within the wall.
Frozen in fear and despair, Emma did the only thing she could in her circumstances and after filling her lungs to the top let out the loudest cry for help she could muster. For a second she thought on abandoning Uriel to his devices, but her body acted on her own and she dragged him along using all of her strength.
"You're heavier than I thought." Emma let out once they were out in the hallway.@@novelbin@@
"Why did you take me here? We should come back and apologize to uncle."
"Stop! He's not your uncle, that thing is a cryptid."
"A cryptid? That's nonsense, he's my uncle... he's..." It didn't take a genius to understand the situation, he witnessed the whole thing but something was interfering with Uriel's logical thinking. Anytime reality clashed with the lie he told himself for all those years caused him an incredible amount of pain which didn't stop until his mind drifted into another subject.
"Don't worry, your friends... they'll be here any minute now." Emma said as she hid in the corner, leaning ever so slightly just to sneak a peek of the door to the apartment Uriel used to call home. It took a full minute of harrowing uncertainty, but then Nika came out of Uriel's shadow.
"Miss Nika, there's something wrong on Uriel's head, he's acting weird!"
"Huh? That's nothing new kid, you get used to it. More importantly, we need to escape this damned place, it's overrun with cryptids." Nika said, while holding on to her shoulder as though trying to keep it in place.
"Miss Nika, are you hurt?" Emma asked.
"You should have seen the other one. Hey, Uriel, let's move the others are already climbing to the rooftop."
"Why?" Uriel remained composed so long as he kept himself from thinking about his uncle.
"Crap! Take him by force, I need to recover." Nika coughed a mouthful of blood and disappeared on Uriel's shadow. The wound on her shoulder was so deep it almost cut her in half, but by using her trait she could keep her condition from worsening until she could get medical treatment.
However, that meant Emma was left completely alone with a worthless Uriel who couldn't even acknowledge that what he thought was his uncle, was actually a sinister creature that manipulated him for years.
Left with no choice, Emma decided to go back into the dark room where the creature probably awaited its next meal. It was her only chance at gathering evidence to convince Uriel that the thing inside that place wasn't human.

Her eyes glimmered in blue as she produced a photographic camera to take a picture of the cryptid. She opened the door to a slit expecting the cryptid to launch at her full force, but when nothing happened she pushed it a little further and snapped a picture with a bright flash of light only to run away without even checking it.
"Uriel, you have to believe me, look at this... it's a..." The words died in her mouth as she looked at the picture she took, it was blurry, but it was clear enough to see that it was the ugliest thing she had ever seen in her life.
It was a thing with countless protruding limbs and wide mouth with hooked fangs, it was a changeling.
What do you think?
