Chapter 279 Rooftop battle Part 2

Sam's face lit up with hope as he realized what Uriel was asking him and he began channeling flux energy towards his orichalcum earring which was both a wedding and a parting gift.

The small artifact glistened with light as the air element infused into it started taking effect and Sam was lifted from the ground as though by magic causing the mass of changelings to shift their attention towards the runaway hunter.

Uriel and the others did the best they could to provoke the creature, but since they were so many different creatures working for the same purpose it had no effect and the cryptid managed to grab onto one of Sam's legs to keep him from warning the rangers.

At that moment everything seemed lost and the hunters were about to give up on that strategy and focus on taking down the cryptid but something small moved at a high speed, way faster than the cryptid could react, and perform a spectacular jump towards the wall.

"Is it my idea or that was my cute Luna?" Nika asked with a dumbfounded expression on her face as Luna climbed the wall with the help of the orichalcum claws Medusa forged for her.

Luna's movements were so fast and nimble it looked as though she was born to climb that wall. Nothing hindered her elegant movements, not the fear of heights nor the debris falling from the places where she sunk her claws and she quickly disappeared from sight.

Sam would have been able to spot her in spite of her small size and the incredible distance, had it not been for the fact that he was now hanging down from the disgusting black limb that grasped his leg.

Before the cryptid could deal more damage to the Lightbringer, Uriel rushed forward with the intention of cutting the tentacle that held him captive. The cryptid attempted to stop him with a powerful sweep that Nika blocked with her shadow armor allowing Uriel to jump the obstacle, but the creature had enough tentacles to try over and over.

However, they didn't count with Uriel's skill being activated at the precise instant.

He dodged a couple tentacles by crouching, then used another as a step to jump higher and cut the long limb that had his friend caught causing them both to fall.

Uriel was able to see everything in slow motion, it was as time itself had stopped but that was only his perception of time as he now moved at a speed unthinkable for an ascended hunter like him. This allowed him to use the little time until he fell to the ground to analyze the battlefield from the high ground, but what he saw didn't give him much hope.

There was absolutely no chance of escaping. What little room they had to move was all the free space that wasn't covered by the ever growing mass of changelings, that became bigger with each new cryptid that joined the mass and they kept coming out of the building.

'Just how many of those things are there?' Uriel couldn't figure out a way to kill them and there weren't any escape routes. The only thing he could think of was to activate Water warlock's blessing.

It wasn't just the regenerative powers, he also gained an incredible speed and strength boost and it also had an effect on the artifacts he used. The last time he faced a changeling, it took him two strikes to kill it with just his small pocket knife, there was no saying of what would happen if he used it along with Thunderbolt Iron.

"Nika, keep them safe, I'll take care of this myself." Uriel said with a commanding tone of voice. Needless to say Emma was beyond speechless, but the same applied to Medusa who had no idea of what could Uriel possibly do to defeat such a creature.

The other person that was speechless was poor Sam, but that was because he fell unconscious after channeling too much flux trying to escape from the grasp of the cryptid. Experience tales with My Virtual Library Empire

"No way! Don't do it!" Nika shouted before even thinking. After her conversation with Water warlock she feared what would become of Uriel if he continued using it, at least until he found a way to give something back to the ancient giant hiding within his body. "Use shadow armor instead!"

"Shadow... armor?" Uriel muttered as he dodged the incoming tentacle like limbs that tried to poke and slice at him. He didn't think it was possible for him to use Nika's skill so freely, but before he could ask how to do it, he felt someone hugging him from behind. Nika, wrapped her arms around his waist up to his chest as she covered herself with the black armor.

"Focus on this feeling." She whispered as close to his ear as she could.

Despite being in a diresome situation that threatened all of their lives, Uriel still couldn't help but notice the soft sensation on his back. It brought chills to his spine and he had trouble focusing on what Nika was trying to show him, but that only lasted until he felt the void of light on his skin. It wasn't something his sense of touch felt, he experienced it with his mystical sense instead.

Suddenly, it was as though he knew how to do it from birth. Manipulating the shadows became as easy as breathing and soon he was surrounded by darkness in a cloak.

"Are you dumb!? It was supposed to be an armor." Nika scoffed, but Uriel had this confident smile on his face. The kind of cocky smile he used to make whenever he spoke about archaeology or ancient civilizations or whatever dorky thing he loved.@@novelbin@@

The next thing Nika saw was Uriel disappearing inside the black mass of changelings unleashing a flurry of swings that wrecked havoc. The uncanny maws, the hooked teeth and the long piercing limbs couldn't so much as scratch the void that surrounded him, but the joy of seeing the enemy being decimated lasted only until the sun began to set.
