Chapter 285 Breakfast in Texas

What used to be just an abandoned factory, a steel foundry to be more precise, was now the headquarter of a small company on the rise. They weren't the wealthiest nor did they possess the strongest hunters nor the latest technology, but somehow their influence and reputation kept growing non stop to the point where even the Celes corporation was on the wary of them.

It wasn't a concrete building anymore, at least not entirely, they were already on the process of renovating it replacing the old school materials with the high tech alloy developed after the arrival. The refining operation taking place on the first floor was going downwind and Medusa's project was also on the right track. Many hunters came and went, mining crew, security team and others. But among all the ever shifting environment, some things didn't change.

"AH! Beer for breakfast is the best!" Nika let out after gulping down a beer can and slamming it on the table. As usual, she was wearing only a long T-shirt that covered her down to her thighs. Medusa and Sam stared at her for two different reasons, but they both shared the concern about her drinking.

"Are you sure it's a good idea to drink so early in the morning?" Medusa awkwardly scratched her cheek.

"I'll decide that later, but it feels so good."

"Do you think he'll join us for breakfast today?"

"I have no clue, he's not speaking to me," Nika grabbed another can of beer and continued. "I'm worried about him, who knows what is he doing in his room all day."

"It's called fapping." Sam butted in with a chuckle.

"Eww! That's disgusting!"

Had Uriel known the argument that was taking place he would not have stepped out of his room, but he was hungry and he still had a lot of things to do. He was already dressed and grabbed a bowl of cereal with complete disregard for the awkward atmosphere in the room.@@novelbin@@

He ate his breakfast in silence, but when Luna came out of her room he gobbled down his breakfast and hurried downstairs. Medusa stood up and followed him.

"What got into you? Why are you acting so cold towards Luna?" Medusa said in her scolding tone of voice.

"It's none of your business." Uriel replied without realizing how harmful his words were, but Medusa endured the emotional pain it caused her to be pushed further away by the man she loved and continued speaking.

"I'm worried about you, things haven't been the same. You don't speak to Nika and avoid Luna like the plague. Sam is always busy and I'm left alone all day, trapped in this four walls working on the vehicle. If something is bothering you, if you have a bone to pick with someone, use your words like an adult."

"It's too difficult to explain and It's not my place to do so," That was the full extent of his reply and he left Medusa behind wondering why she even liked him in the first place.

"I'm being serious. It's not just about me, if you don't do something..."

"Medusa... I'm falling in love with Nika. Even when I'm not with her, she's all I can think about. I wake up thinking about her, I go to bed thinking about her and I get a rush whenever I see her. It's driving me crazy!" Uriel let out as though he was venting to a wall.

"I... I see, that's all I wanted to know." Medusa turned to leave, but Uriel grabbed her by the hand.

"It's not what you think. I know I'm not in love with her, she's just a... bodyguard, friend, I don't know. But no matter what I do, this feeling keeps getting stronger and I need your help to fight it."

"You know how I feel about you, I'm shy and awkward at times, one thing I am not is stupid. Do you really think you can fool around with me only because you want to forget about Nika? I won't let you play with my feelings like that!" Medusa's tone of voice was harsh, but her cheeks blushed involuntarily.

"Calm down, it came off wrong. I don't need your help with that. What I need is to find a way to communicate with Water warlock or purge him, I can't keep living like this." Uriel lowered his gaze.

At that moment Medusa realized how selfish she had been towards Uriel. He was struggling with more than he could handle by himself, but instead of showing him that she could be a partner she could rely on she kept demanding attention.

"I'll do it."

"I still haven't told you what we need to do."

"It doesn't matter, I already said I'll do it." Medusa said decisively.

"First, you'll have to change your clothes, we're going outside."

Medusa came back shortly after, wearing her old black leather jacket with a cloth patch on the back depicting the head of a woman with snakes instead of hair. She was also wearing her tight denim pants and a white V cut blouse that emphasized her femininity and of course her attire wouldn't be complete without her orichalcum googles.

She looked like some sort of steampunk rockstar, but the reason why Uriel asked her to change wasn't because of looks but because they needed to head out and the Mapple corp. still thought she was dead.

"That will do, there's no chance they'll recognize you like that." Uriel said pointing out the difference between her current style and the demure attire she used to wear whenever she appeared as a member of the Works family.

"Where are you taking me?" Medusa asked as she got into the cab Uriel called.

"Huh? You'll have to just wait and see." He said with an unsettling grin that sent shivers down Medusa's spine. Her trait was related to fear, the most inner fear of any sentient creature, but it seemed as though it was Uriel the one with said trait.
