Chapter 279: Chapter 279 Setting Out for True Dragon Gully (1)
Watching the giant buffalo being packed away into the cold storage, Ye Nai hurried to the wholesale market to buy fuel for the boiler, products for the vending machines, personal supplies, and some food, vegetables, fruits, and snacks for the road. She also bought a good amount of small packages of vegetable seeds from some stores.
After leaving the wholesale market, she rushed to the electronics market and purchased several smartwatches, drones, sports cameras, battery-operated micro cameras, and various other items she found useful.
She had never owned a watch before, always checking the time on her phone. Mainly because her daily activities rarely necessitated a watch. Pulling out her phone from her Space to check the time wasn’t a hassle. But now that she was heading out to battle, wearing a watch was more convenient than using a phone.
The sports camera was to record her combat process; she wasn’t concerned about the weight. She purchased a dual-battery model to swap the batteries in rotation to ensure extended battery life. For safety, she bought several spare batteries, fully charged, enough to maintain several days of all-day filming.
The drones were for scouting the environment, and she bought cameras by the box, two hundred per box, planning to deploy them in enemy camps whenever possible.
The next day, she ran to a pharmaceutical company. In their warehouse, she saw cargo for her totaling five containers. Checking the inventory list and opening boxes, Ye Nai noticed over ten boxes of disposable morphine syringes.
“We saw that you have experience performing surgeries on wounded soldiers, and for a Beginner First Aider, that’s quite impressive. Use these morphine syringes as you see fit, but always remember, the addictive nature of morphine can get someone hooked in just a week. You must be very careful about this,” the logistics manager who brought her to the warehouse solemnly advised.
“Don’t worry, I am fully aware,” Ye Nai responded seriously, not making light of the situation.
“Let’s go to the cold storage, there are some vaccines, freeze-dried plasma, and sterile liquids left.”
Ye Nai followed the manager to the cold storage, first taking the vaccines, then noticing the amazing battlefield plasma products.
A bag of freeze-dried plasma powder and a bag of sterile liquid made one set. When the sterile liquid was poured into the bag of plasma powder, it reconstituted into plasma used for transfusions.
The freeze-dried powder was easier to store and transport than liquid plasma and had a longer shelf life.
The plasma products Ye Nai was taking were produced last month with a fresh date. Just right as one of the five containers was only half full; adding the plasma products filled up the half-empty space.
“They say your Space is special, so they approved these specially for you. Make good use of it.”
“I will.”
After tightly closing the container doors she immediately stored them in her Space.
These items were all hers, whether she used them up or not, they were hers to keep, even if she returned from the front line without having used a single item.
The same went for the ammunition.
After completing the transfer of materials, Ye Nai decided to leave the next day. But upon leaving the pharmaceutical company, she rushed to a water treatment plant and bought a pool of precisely two thousand five hundred cubic meters of filtered water, plus a thousand barrels of bottled water.
Since her Space now had a capacity so large she couldn’t be bothered to measure it, the newly purchased clean water was stored in a separate corner of her Space, not mixed with the over a thousand tons of clean water she had previously.
As long as her Space could fit it, she was happy to store it that way.
Next, she rushed to a wastewater treatment plant to thoroughly clean various waste barrels.
And she wasn’t finished just running these errands; back at the hotel, she continued to spend money, frantically ordering takeout—barbecues, snacks, stir-fries, and braised dishes. When delivered, she didn’t eat them; instead, she stored them in her Space as emergency provisions.
That evening, she messaged Yu Qing and her younger siblings to tell them that she would be departing for the front lines tomorrow. Particularly her mother and Yu Jiao, whom she urged to move to Daijing soon to get acclimatized so as not to delay their summer intensive courses. The twins only needed to move to Daijing after their junior high school exam results were released.
Yu Qing and her siblings took a while to respond. They didn’t say much, but what they did say was all the same—wishing her a safe return.
Ye Nai plugged her phone in to charge, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next morning, as the sky began to brighten, Ye Nai checked out and set off.
Driving her pickup RV, she followed the navigation onto the ring road and reached the suburbs in the northeast, where she saw a bustling morning market. Tempted by the delicious breakfast aromas wafting through the morning breeze, she couldn’t help stopping the car, strolling through the market, and buying a bunch of snacks. Finally, she ate a bowl of dumplings, richly stuffed with meat.
When paying, she also had the owner pack up a hundred fresh dumplings for her, continuing her journey contentedly.
After getting back on the highway, she spent most of the day driving, only pulling off to the side of the road when she got tired, hungry, or thirsty. She would stop briefly, visit the restroom and wash her hands in East Ridge Secret Realm, then return to the car to eat some stockpiled food from her Space.
After resting for a couple of hours, she would hit the road again. After dark, she and the vehicle would return to East Ridge Secret Realm to sleep, then come back before dawn to continue the journey.
After two days of travel, she left the province where Daijing was located and had two more provinces to cross before she could reach Tongjiang Province.
Just as she entered the next province and had driven for a day, just as she was about to pull off the highway to rest in East Ridge Secret Realm, she received a message from her mother on her phone.
[The big bison has arrived, who knew from the camera that a whole bison would be this huge?! My god!]
[The bison was bought by you, right? You bought it, right?! That whole head mustn’t have been cheap, right?!]
[Things have completely blown up, the media have all shown up, and so have the higher authorities.]
[The bison was taken away by a Space Awakened, they said it’s being sent to a slaughterhouse for butchering.]
[Awakeners are so impressive, a huge bison disappeared in the blink of an eye. It would have been great if you could have awakened too.]
Ye Nai went to the back of the RV, took out her computer, opened some software, and began typing furiously.
[Mom, was the bison just delivered?]
[No, it arrived this morning.]
[So, what’s the situation now? Has the meat been sent back?]
[It’s been sent back, and I got a big piece, but I don’t know how to eat it. Should I sell it?]
[Sell it. Bison meat’s energy is very dominating; ordinary people might end up in the hospital after just one bite, so don’t touch it.]
[Then why did you send this to the unit?]
[If I didn’t send it, how would I have drawn the attention of the higher authorities to speed up the processing of your papers and hurry them to send you off?]
[Okay, you’re right about that, and they did definitely find out about the big bison’s origins. But I don’t know what the media is going to say; I haven’t seen the news yet.]
[Glossing things over is their job; as long as they don’t interview you, it’s fine.]
[That’s true, but still, I don’t know who’s trying to mess with me.]
[Even if you knew, what would you do? Charge over there and beat them up? They could just play innocent, saying they were only thinking of the national tax revenue. What’s wrong with that? How could you argue? You received the bison, and that’s the end of your part in this; your venting is enough. The rest is for others to play out in their own games; don’t get involved again.]
What do you think?
