Chapter 284: Chapter 284 Disaster is not feared when there are supplies (1)
After finishing the job, she drove the bulldozer all morning, clearing the silt as she went, until the road was cut off again at noon.
The scene in front of her resembled the aftermath of a catastrophic flash flood and mudslide.
“Damn it!”
Ye Nai scratched her head in frustration, releasing spores to remove the mud, stones, trees, and rubbish.
The road here was even more severely collapsed, with the mountain path completely flattened; she would clear the debris below, and more would come tumbling down from above.
Relying on her expanded “Space,” Ye Nai worked tirelessly to clear the rubbish, making a safe path for herself by pushing around with the bulldozer.
Bit by bit, she continued to clear the way forward, working until she was numb with fatigue when suddenly, it seemed like she heard people calling out loudly.
Ye Nai was startled, thinking someone was in danger.
She leaned forward, peering through the front windshield, and looked up the mudslide to see a national flag, then a group of military warriors waving their arms vigorously, holding shovels and other tools, looking in her direction.
“Wow, finally seeing some people.”
“There are people, we must be getting close to our destination.”
Ye Nai honked the horn three times, stopped the bulldozer, opened the door, climbed onto the roof, and jumped and waved back, then climbed back into the cab and continued her work.
“Oh my god, it’s a girl!”
“How come a single girl is driving a bulldozer all the way here?”
“Could she be an Awakener on a border enemy-killing mission?”
“That strong?”
“Did you see how agile she was when she climbed on top of the bulldozer just now?”
“So she’s definitely a big shot, not the kind of Space Awakened who works in logistics.”
“Right, she couldn’t have driven a bulldozer all this way, it must be the road…”
Before they could finish, the group witnessed a large portion of the mudslide debris disappear.
“Oh my god, retreat, retreat, this big shot doesn’t care about our safety when she’s working!”
“Go back, go back and inform the captain!”
At the True Dragon Gully frontline camp, the place was a mess as a flash flood and mudslide had destroyed half the camp in the middle of the night. Fortunately, the personnel had managed to escape in time, but the logistics area was deeply buried, with the remaining half covered in mud up to knee depth.
Luckily, all kinds of logistics support vehicles were preserved. After the natural disaster subsided, they used the communications vehicle to send messages back to the rear base, but with the road broken, it would take days to clear the road and deliver supplies from the rear base.
When they tried to contact the neighboring camps, it was the same story for everyone. The mudslide had affected too large an area, and no one could offer help. Everyone was waiting for supplies from the rear base. The injured had to wait for helicopters, which was the fastest evacuation method, but apart from people, the helicopters couldn’t carry anything else.
Just as the camp’s highest-ranking officer, Colonel Captain Cao Zhengyuan, Vice Commander He Zan, and Commissar Wan Changzhen were walking around the camp assessing the damage, they heard a commotion. Then, Captain Cao saw his clerk Gao Chun running over quickly.
“Report!”
“Speak.”
“An Awakener has come to the outskirts of our camp, suspected to be Ye Nai mentioned in the previous notice.”
“Huh? Outside our camp? It’s all blocked out there, how did she get here?”
While Captain Cao was in disbelief, He Zan and Wan Changzhen looked at each other in bewilderment.
“She was spotted by the warriors clearing the silt outside, said a girl driving a bulldozer cleared a large area of mudslide with just a sweep.”
“…Ah?!”
Gao Chun looked steadfastly at the three people inside the house, “That’s what the warriors who came back to report said.”
As he spoke, cheers suddenly erupted.
“It’s clear, it’s clear!”
“Captain, the camp is accessible!”
“The Awakener has entered!”
Cao Zhengyuan and the other two immediately stopped hesitating and jogged towards the camp’s entrance, “Let’s go take a look!”
When they arrived at the camp’s entrance, which by then was covered with silt, they saw a bulldozer parked there, and a tall, robust girl with wheat-colored skin and a buzz cut, wearing a gym outfit and rain boots standing in the mud. The silt, as thick as a person’s lower leg, had been cleared away to reveal the original paved ground beneath.
Li Yun, covered in mud as the military’s quartermaster, was shaking hands with the girl.
Looking outside, the mountain road was mostly uncovered, showing its true face. The rest still needed manual cleaning, but it was passable as a one-way road for the time being, and the amount of mud to be cleared was greatly reduced.
“Wow, such a young girl.”
Wan Changzhen was the first to approach with a smile and extended her hand.
“Hello, my name is Ye Nai, I’m here for a border elimination mission.”
“Welcome, welcome, we received the notice of your mission in advance. I’m Commissar Wan Changzhen, just call me Commissar Wan.”
Wan Changzhen smiled warmly, introducing her to Captain Cao and Vice Commander He.
“Ye, you’ve arrived at an inopportune time; our camp just experienced a flood and mudslide in the middle of the night.”
Wan Changzhen was about to engage in some polite conversation. The border elimination mission had been posted for a long time; although it offered good benefits, given the nation’s long border, even a large number of takers wouldn’t seem excessive when thrown into the fray at the front lines. They treasured every such volunteer.
“No, I think it’s quite fortunate. This is heaven helping me complete my mission.” Twenty-year-old Ye Nai was not of an age for such pleasantries; she was direct.
“Oh? How so?”
“If the silt can bury our camp, of course it can bury the enemy camp as well.”
Everyone present, be it the captain or the privates, felt their hearts skip a beat. They turned their heads in unison, gazing toward the buffer zone accumulating silt outside the frontline, and beyond the buffer lay the enemy’s frontline camp.
“The silt flowed down from our camp, and they haven’t suffered any losses; they may even be planning to take advantage of the situation to attack us.”
“That’s not a problem. We have so much silt here, enough to bury them.” Ye Nai had gathered a tremendous amount of silt that morning, and the inspiration to eliminate the enemy had suddenly struck her while she was working.
“You mean to collect the silt from here and dump it into their camp?” Captain Cao and the others pondered with increasing brightness in their eyes, “That will require a huge space.”
“Hmm, I know. It’s enough, leave it to me. They are all my points.”
“Alright then, we’ll wait for your good news.”
No one asked Ye Nai about how large a space she had; anybody with eyes could see that she had taken away all the silt that blocked the entrance.
Ye Nai took off the sports camera from her outfit, “By the way, is external communication still operational? The mudslide covered a long stretch of road, the base has collapsed in sections, and I barely managed to clear a single-lane path with the bulldozer, which is all recorded here.”
Gao Chun immediately reached out his hand.
“Give it here, thank you. I’ll have the communications soldier take care of it, external communication is still fine.”
After handing over the camera to him, Ye Nai looked around at the silt everywhere, and not far away, she could even see mounds of silt piled up like a hill and thought her little business could probably make a killing in this opportunity.
What do you think?
