Chapter 64: 64: Take Down a Cult Branch
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Take Down a Cult Branch
“Commander, there is an urgent report about the Cult.” The assistant got the report and pushed the door into the commander’s office.
“Where’s the information from?” The commander put down his work and took the report.
“It’s from Ye Nai.”
“Huh? The one from the big Space, Ye Nai?”
“Yes, the Cult Members tricked her into leaving on a mission, but once in the Secret Realm, she turned the tables on them, killing nine and stealing two of their armored SUVs.”
The commander flipped through the first two pages which simply documented how Ye Nai was deceived and then reversed the situation on her assailants. The following page described Captain Cao’s encounter with her.
“Heavens, a full payment of 500,000 settled in one go, classic deception.”
“This young lady’s combat skills are impressive; messing with her was blind foolishness on the part of this Heavenly Taoist group.”
“Moreover, she’s gutsy, erasing her own information. She intends to use herself as bait for fishing, it’s remarkable for someone so young to have such courage.”
The commander didn’t care about the lives of those nine people either; his face twitched as he read the confession at the end of the report.
“The mastermind is in Anyuan City. Contact our city authorities and have them coordinate with them—and remember to omit Ye Nai’s information.”
“Yes.”
The assistant took the report, returned to his own office, shoved the documents into the shredder, and then called the armed forces branch in the city. During wartime, a city has many more troops, with the danger zone forces and the Internal Guard Force forming two separate military leaderships. The armed forces department’s responsibilities have expanded to include more coordination work.
Discovering intelligence about Anyuan City in the Secret Realm within East Ridge City meant the armed forces had to step in. It wouldn’t be proper for the danger zone number five to contact the Internal Guard Force in Anyuan City directly.
That would be inappropriate.
Proper procedures had to be followed: the city would handle the negotiations, supervise the entire process, and, if all went well, all parties involved would share the credit.
Such are the ways of the world, all these social dealings.
Upon receiving the intelligence, Anyuan City’s armed forces department forwarded it to the city’s Internal Guard Force and also notified the city government. In case of an operation, they would need the police to help maintain law and order around the incident site.
The forces dispatched a reconnaissance team to assess the situation.
The sect’s branch was located in the northeastern corner of the city’s busy district, inside a three-story hotel, bustling with guests from the outside and seemingly thriving.
“The best hiding place is in plain sight,” indeed. They really knew how to hide. Who would guess that this was a branch of the Heavenly Taoist group? The comings and goings were all disciples and believers, accepting only online bookings, with the front desk rejecting walk-ins by claiming full occupancy.
This way, no outsiders would stay there and their secrets would remain undiscovered.
The scouts pretended to be business travelers with suitcases but couldn’t get a room, so with the cover of their comrades, they scaled the outside wall and entered through the windows to conduct surveillance.
At nightfall, they sent back a message: everything was true, and the branch leader, down to the key officers like the deacons, were present, staying in the hotel for the night. They planned to drive to the Secret Realm in East Ridge City before dawn to attend a ceremony.
One didn’t need to ask to know what the ceremony entailed.
Upon receiving the message, the Internal Guard Force immediately called up troops and set out, while also alerting the police to maintain order.
They chose to act in the middle of the night when everyone was deep in sleep.
The military vehicles first parked at the surrounding street corners, and the warriors ran in, encircling the hotel from all directions. Snipers stationed on nearby rooftops stood by, ready to arrest all inside the hotel. Aside from the identified key officers, believers with guest identities were also taken away, filling up a military truck.
Thus, the Anyuan City branch of the Heavenly Taoist group was eradicated.
At seven in the morning, the news was broadcast, uplifting the spirits of the public.
Hearing the news, some cursed the evil organization, some praised the swift action of the troops, and some harbored ulterior motives and dared not utter a sound.
No matter the organization, the senior cadres at a certain level were all very clear about the nature of their sect: bewitching people’s hearts and brainwashing them. But it was useful, it was great for accumulating wealth. Didn’t you see those above the cadre level getting fat and oily? As long as all precious resources, including money, went into their own pockets, who cared about the life and death of the believers.
After the branch hall of the Heavenly Taoist in Anyuan City was eradicated, the other similar ones immediately went into hiding, keeping silent for a while. They would wait until the heat died down before resuming activities.
Ye Nai, who had a good sleep at home, reached for her phone the moment she opened her eyes. She opened the short video app to check on the major domestic news and soon came across the news about the crackdown on the Heavenly Taoist branch hall in Anyuan City.
Looking at the time, it wasn’t even noon yet, and the news had already spread nationwide.
The news released information that the hotel was suspected of tax evasion. Upon further investigation, fake accounts were found, and digging deeper revealed ties with Heavenly Taoist. The investigation had gone on for a whole year before this arrest operation was organized.
In the comments below the news, everyone was mocking the Cult Members, saying they had to abide by the law and pay their taxes properly, otherwise they couldn’t complain when divine justice struck them.
After reading the news, Ye Nai went directly to the comments, laughing so hard in bed that she rolled around.
When browsing videos, she loved reading netizens’ comments. They were witty and full of new slang; she herself couldn’t come up with so many witty remarks. Reading comments was way more interesting than watching the videos.
Finally, feeling hungry and needing to get out of bed to find food, she glanced at the time, and it was almost two in the afternoon.
While freshening up and looking in the mirror, she noticed that the once scary swelling on her face had gone down significantly. Now that she was home, her “on strike” recovery power had also resumed.
Ye Nai, looking at her face in the mirror, suddenly wondered if her fungus could solve menstrual issues, controlling hormones and putting the reproductive system into dormancy.
But she had no clue how to go about it. With this thought, having finished freshening up, Ye Nai waited for her takeout in the living room while searching for medical textbooks on the online shopping platform, buying both surgical and medical texts.
Afterward, she opened the team leader group chat.
There were 99+ unread messages in the group.
They were all discussing the topic of the crackdown on the Cult.
Ye Nai joined in the excitement, praising how efficiently the operation was conducted, not letting a single Cult Member escape.
When the takeout arrived, a private message from Captain Cao also came through.
[Xiao Yezi, there’s a buyer for those two vehicles of yours.]
[So soon?]
[The vehicles are good, no major internal damage, just regularly maintained. A fresh coat of paint and they’ll be as good as new. Under such conditions, even a normal second-hand trade wouldn’t depreciate.]
Captain Cao took the vehicles away yesterday, and the fresh bullet scratches on the car bodies indirectly proved how perilous Ye Nai’s escape and counterattack were.
[Okay, if there’s a buyer, sell them. The price doesn’t matter; I won’t negotiate.]
[Haha, I’ll introduce you to someone, talk directly to him.]
With that, Captain Cao sent over a business card. Ye Nai clicked to view it and saw that it was from the head of the Procurement Department of Hazardous Area #5.
[Wow, a department head? Is he buying for personal use?]
[Haha, no, it’s for our Hazardous Area’s procurement. After a bit of refurbishing, plenty of departments and other teams will be vying for these cars.]
[Oh, oh, okay, then I’m not worried about having trouble licensing them.]
[Yeah, it’s worry-free when you sell to us.]
[Should I contact the department head directly?]
[Yes, just talk to him; the whole Procurement Department has just four people, and it’s not a job where you just sit in the office waiting for the day to end.]
[Thanks, I’ll chat with him.]
What do you think?
