Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Private Task Is A Trap (3)
Driver, Captain Cao, and the team medic—these three people aboard the vehicle suddenly perked up.
“Did you get some loot? Right, you had just an electric scooter against nine of them, how did you manage to escape?”
“You stole their vehicles?”
“Yeah, two armored all-terrain vehicles.”
“Wow!”
“I don’t have a driver’s license, you know, I’m planning to sell them.”
“No problem, let’s check the vehicles first.”
The convoy sped up and arrived at the town ahead. Ye Nai, benefitting from Captain Cao’s presence, entered the military camp with him. In front of the dormitory building, she released her spoils of war and then walked off with the team medic, Xiao Lizi.
“This is a nice find, the model that came out just the year before last.”
The team members circled the vehicles, the in-house mechanic popped the hood to inspect the machinery, while the rest climbed inside to check the interior.
“Well-maintained, and cleaned up nicely—it gives you the impression that the team using these vehicles is very disciplined.”
“They have the stuff to pull off scams.”
“Forget rookies, who wouldn’t have a good impression of this team after sitting in these vehicles?”
“Exactly.”
“Take off the license plates.”
The team members got to work, and the front and rear license plates of the two vehicles were swiftly removed.
Ye Nai’s one against nine didn’t just save herself, but she also commandeered the other side’s two vehicles. As for what would happen to those nine left stranded in the wilderness of the Secret Realm, everyone had a clear idea, but none dwelled on it.
Such were the rules of the Secret Realm: you took your own risks by causing trouble here, responsible for your own life and death.
After Ye Nai applied her medication, she descended the stairs and stowed away the two inspected vehicles into the space. When retrieving the vehicles, she also noticed the license plates placed on the co-driver’s seat.
“Captain Cao, what do you think of the vehicles? Are they sellable?”
“They are. Armored all-terrain vehicles hold their value well. Considering these models were released the year before last, just one carries a sticker price close to three million. Two would be worth over five million. The mechanic thinks they look good on the surface, we’ll conduct a more thorough internal check when we get back. If there’s no major damage, seventy percent of the original price is guaranteed.”
Ye Nai had no knowledge of cars, only knowing that big off-road vehicles were definitely expensive; beyond that, she was clueless. But hearing that a two-year-old vehicle could still fetch seventy percent of its original price, of course she was pleasantly surprised.
“Is it safe to sell them? They won’t look into the origin, will they?”
“You’re safe with us. Selling big-ticket loot like this takes some connections. The buyer needs to be reassured they can register the vehicle without any issues. The traders in the town outside usually only deal with mutant beast meat; those who handle larger goods are not ordinary people.”
“Then I’ll leave it in your hands, Captain Cao. I’m not fussed about how much it sells for, it’s all just spoils of war anyway.”
“You’re not keeping one?”
“No, I don’t have a driving license, and it takes up space in my storage. Besides, I’ll be hijacking new ones later.”
“That confident?”
Ye Nai proudly pulled out a stack of confessions, “These were confessed by them in person. My name has been hanging in the system for so many days, every small and large sect across the country has their eyes on me.”
“Confessions? Let me see!”
Captain Cao’s eyes lit up. While Ye Nai was not paying attention, he snatched them away.
He flipped through them quickly, reluctant to put them down.
“Goodness, you’re really something, getting information on the branch’s address and key people.”
“Of course, they dared to capture me for a pitiful sacrifice to the Heavenly Dao, let’s see if I don’t give them a good thrashing.”
As Captain Cao reached the last page, Ye Nai reached to take it back, but she couldn’t tug it free; he was holding on too tightly.
“Come on, give it back to me when you’re done.”
“What do you need this for? Are you planning to pay them a visit?”
“What else? I took a beating for nothing?” Ye Nai pointed to her face in complaint.
“It’s precisely because you can’t take a beating for nothing that you need to give it to me.”
“Why?”
“Their plan against you failed, the people didn’t make it back, so that’s as good as causing a stir. Everyone in that branch will vanish overnight. Cults are hard to crack down on for this reason; they run faster than rabbits. You’re thinking of going after them to settle the score, by the time you get there, not even a hair will be left.”
“You think you can handle it?”
“Of course, I can. As soon as we leave, I’ll report it, and have the forces from Anyuan City take action. I’ll make sure none of them get away.”
“Just based on these few pages of confessions? The military will act?” Ye Nai asked, a bit hesitantly spreading her hands, “There are no people left.”
“For the police, catching people requires evidence, but for the military, counter-terrorism only requires an address.”
Captain Cao simply ignored the latter part of Ye Nai’s statement. No people? No matter, it wasn’t a big deal.
Ye Nai’s eyes rolled as she came up with a new idea.
“When you make the arrests, don’t expose me. Just don’t let them know their whole operation collapsed because of me. Make them think it was something else that did them in.”
“What are you planning? Got a taste for fishing?”
“How else am I going to loot spoils of war without fishing?”
“My god, you’re shameless, aren’t you?”
“That’s right~”
Ye Nai proudly nodded her head, which unfortunately tugged at her injured muscles, causing her to uncontrollably suck in a breath of cold air.
The stack of confessions thus smoothly ended up in the hands of Captain Cao, who passed them to the intelligence team member.
“As soon as we leave the Secret Realm, report it immediately, and don’t give the Cult Members any time to escape.”
“Yes, Captain.”
“Don’t forget to remind the higher-ups, when notifying Anyuan City, to erase Ye Nai’s involvement. Just say the intelligence came from another channel.”
“Understood, Captain.”
Captain Cao turned his head and looked at Ye Nai’s colorful face, sighing in exasperation.
“Come on, let’s go eat. Order a few good dishes and replenish your energy properly.”
In the military camp’s large canteen, there were windows for serving dishes, as well as more expensive a la carte options. Any dish that contained meat used mutant beast meat, so the a la carte window always had a long queue. Those who spent money on orders were not short of cash; they only demanded that the chef’s skills be excellent.
Ye Nai attracted much attention when she walked into the canteen.
Even a commissioned officer came over to inquire about her situation.
“Are new recruits treated so harshly these days?”
Captain Cao was left speechless.
Captain Cao felt like throwing his chopsticks.
Why did they have to come for a la carte? Couldn’t they just eat in the dormitory with their regular meals?
Feeling awkward now?
Ye Nai kept her head down, eating as if she heard nothing.
The other team members held back their laughter, daring not to make a comment.
In the end, Captain Cao awkwardly excused the situation by saying the newbie was not proficient in her exercises and would know better after suffering this setback.
Only then did the officer leave, relieved; otherwise, he might have thought they were abusing new recruits.
Ye Nai ate to her heart’s content, indeed finding the a la carte dishes much tastier than the communal ones. However, her few stays at the military camp didn’t afford her the experience of tasting them; she was daunted by the queue and preferred to order takeout instead.
The rest of the half-day was spent in rest and recovery. They would set out early the next morning, heading straight out of the Secret Realm.
Upon leaving, the intelligence team member reported the situation of the Heavenly Taoist as discussed the day before.
Lucky for Ye Nai, she was picked up by Captain Cao. Since they both were from the Number 5 Hazard Zone, there was no hassle.
The intelligence room of the Number 5 Hazard Zone received the report, printed it out, and sent it up the chain, level by level, until it reached the office of the regimental commander.
What do you think?
