Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Accepting a Task from Anyuan City (1)
The price given by East Ridge City’s dangerous zone was much higher than what she had been paid for delivering military weapons before, which had only increased to 30 yuan.
As a city with relatively normal land area and population size, Anyuan City was indeed wealthier.
After inquiring about the date to load the merchandise, Ye Nai started to look for many errand runners online, asking them to go to specified store addresses one by one and make purchases for her.
She was willing to run around herself to familiarize with the city streets, but when she lacked the time, of course there were other convenient methods.
And she promptly mentioned this matter in the group.
Everyone said it was okay, there was nothing urgent, so they could keep the items in her “Space” until she returned to hand them over.
Because once she joined the warrior team and began her mission, as a humanoid warehouse she could not leave the team’s sight to prevent any mishaps with the goods.
The next day, Ye Nai stayed at the hotel and didn’t go anywhere, receiving errand orders all day and purchasing all the requested items.
Early the next morning, a military vehicle came to pick her up from the hotel and took her to a large warehouse district shared by two dangerous zones.
Anyuan City also had its own small towns and frontline camps in the Secret Realm of East Ridge City, but with the two places being so far apart, logistics were inconvenient, so the number of towns and camps was few.
Although few in number, the amount of goods to be delivered was not small. Ye Nai’s “Space” was packed full, and in addition, there was a convoy of six large trucks.
Before Ye Nai’s arrival, they had already organized several large convoys to deliver batches of goods to the Secret Realm, and this was the last bit remaining.
The overall leader of the convoy and the team leader of the accompanying warrior team greeted Ye Nai with broad grins.
Originally, by their estimates, it would take three more trips to deliver the remaining goods, otherwise a large convoy of dozens of vehicles would force regular traffic to follow behind and eat dust.
Ye Nai joined the warrior team and was assigned to the second vehicle. As usual, upon boarding, she handed out a cigarette to bond with her team members.
Before departing, Ye Nai also showed her training results to the warriors in her vehicle, but the people in the same vehicle just gave her a thumbs up and said nothing else.
The convoy set off at night, arrived at Secret Realm No.1 Town of East Ridge City just as the sky was turning pale, and upon entering the Secret Realm, where there was a 12-hour time difference, Town No.2 was just bathed in the evening twilight.
The habits of the Anyuan City convoy were the same; they would drive for a few more hours to rest at a rear small town, sleep well, and then start out again at dawn.
On the way, they first delivered goods to three rear small towns, and due to the numbering principle, it was not obvious from the numbers that these towns belonged to Anyuan City. They emptied the six large trucks and left the large convoy at the third town to wait for the return of the warrior teams.
Ye Nai also offloaded part of the goods from her “Space,” leaving the rest for four frontline camps.
The team left the highway and drove into the wilderness.
The journey was smooth as they delivered to two camps, and correspondingly, Ye Nai’s “Space” filled up with a considerable amount of mutant beast skins and clean meat.
On the way to the third camp, they encountered two civilian Hunting Teams engaged in a firefight.
The colorful superpowers were particularly beautiful in the wilderness, and under their control, plants grew wildly, with several large hunted creatures scattered in the distance, looking like they were edible species.
The warrior team turned away ahead of time, but for some reason, the two Hunting Teams suddenly turned their guns around and attacked them.
The vehicle jolted, something underneath was pushing against it, trying to flip them over.
“They’re coming at us?”
Ye Nai, unsettled by the jolting, braced against the front seat trying to steady herself.
“Whether they were before or not, they certainly are now.”
The military’s team vehicles all had distinct markings to distinguish them from civilian groups.
Even if the first attack was a misunderstanding due to not seeing clearly, the following continuous assaults certainly weren’t a misunderstanding.
Ye Nai wasn’t just sitting idle, she took this opportunity to test her new battle tactics on these two groups.
Clumps of spores flew out through the gaps in the window glass, and under her command, they entered the bodies of those two groups, lurking in the blood to lie in wait at the heart.
Last time, the fungus had been able to stop a severely bleeding warrior from losing blood; this time, it could surely cause a person with a non-fatal gunshot wound to bleed profusely.
After all, the surface wound from a bullet might not look big, but deaths from tearing internal organs and causing severe internal bleeding were common.
The convoy had already dispersed, and Ye Nai clearly heard the sound of bullets hitting her vehicle’s body, luckily without piercing through the panels.
Plus, the vehicle was speeding, so the sneaky tricks meant to flip it over from underneath had failed.
The warriors inside the vehicle also fired back. The firepower from the other vehicles might be limited, but in the second vehicle where Ye Nai was, there was virtually unlimited ammunition.
Although they had unloaded half of the cargo, there was still half left in her space.
She was responsible for handing out magazines.
In the confined space of the vehicle, big guns couldn’t be used, and they had to return fire with personal machine guns. Bullets were quickly used up, a magazine emptying in a matter of minutes.
Ye Nai, like an octopus, provided bullets to the people on her left and right and to the co-driver in front. Whenever someone shouted “Ammo,” she would reach back and immediately stuff a new magazine into their hands.
As their side opened fire, Ye Nai acted too. The spores lying dormant in the enemies’ hearts rebelled, causing their already escalated heart rates from the heat of battle to spike even faster, higher, and stronger—strong enough to scare the daylights out of a cardiologist.
This rise in heart rate was pulled directly to each individual’s limit.
For instance, an ordinary person’s heart rate wouldn’t exceed 180. How would it feel to be pulled to 190?
Awakeners had slightly stronger physiques. Say they could tolerate 220+. How would it feel to be pulled to 250?
The dangers of an overloaded heart rate need not be elaborated upon; inducing heart failure was quite common, with organs suffering from insufficient blood supply, causing dizziness, blackouts, and fainting.
There was no need for long-term control; just a few seconds to make them uncomfortable, unable to hold a gun or unleash their superpower, was enough.
During the chaos of the battle, these few seconds of pause were enough for the bullets fired by their own warriors to shred the enemies’ bodies.
Everything happened as Ye Nai had anticipated. The few seconds of enemy malfunction went unnoticed by everyone. Since firing a gun and unleashing a superpower both required intervals, even they themselves didn’t comprehend what had happened before they took their last breath.
As the sound of gunfire gradually subsided, the man-height wild grass was left with only a handful of injured lucky ones gasping for air, their chances slim; their inability to coagulate blood led to fresh blood moistening the grass beneath them, the heavy scent of blood attracting the gaze of mutant beasts in the distance.
Ye Nai could hear the roars of the mutant beasts from inside the vehicle.
“Hear that sound? Seems like a big one,” Ye Nai said, as she loaded magazines with her hands and listened in all directions, making casual conversation.
The vehicle’s radio crackled to life.
“This is the lead vehicle, all vehicles report status. Over.”
“Second vehicle safe. Over.”
“Third vehicle safe. Over.”
“Fourth vehicle…”
“Fifth vehicle…”
The entire convoy was safe.
“Mutant beasts are approaching from around us, and there might still be mutant plants lurking. Let’s not linger, keep moving, and check the vehicles at the next camp.”
“Understood.”
What do you think?
