Chapter 77: Chapter 77 Delicious Spider Leg Meat (2)
Ye Nai was shouting in the captain’s group chat while changing his shoes to go out.
“Brother Peng borrowed an axe and came back, I’m delivering spider legs, what do you guys want to order?”
“Hold on, hold on, I’m coming too, let Brother Peng chop properly, don’t smash the outer shell.”
“The outer shell of the spider legs is useful? I thought the shell on the body was the good material.”
“They’re all good materials, no matter what kind of pattern, poisonous or nonpoisonous big spiders, as long as they can grow this big they are extremely tough monsters. The shell on the legs is also very hard, just like a long sword, stepping on someone will directly pierce through and nail the person to the ground, the hairs on the legs are called steel hairs, one scrape and it’s a streak of blood.”
“Shoot, save some for me! I need to change a pair of new protective bracelets!”
“Then we’ll meet downstairs at Brother Peng’s, and go up together.”
The elevator ‘dinged’, Ye Nai just reached the first floor and leisurely walked towards the building where Brother Peng lived when he ran into Captain Xiao Ni, who couldn’t be called by his last name, Captain Niu who claimed to be Old Niu, and Captain Ma, Sister Da Ma.
After greeting each other, the four of them entered Brother Peng’s home together.
Brother Peng rented a three-bedroom apartment, living alone. Aside from the master bedroom, the other two rooms were filled with his barbecue tools and a large freezer, his space was just for storage. Perishables could spoil if kept too long, but how long was private information, Ye Nai wasn’t close enough with him to know that level of detail.
In the living room, there was a huge steel operating table. Ye Nai placed the two spider legs on it, the table wasn’t even long enough, part of the legs extended off the edge, and the thickest end was about sixty to seventy centimeters in diameter, comparable to the thigh of a fat human.
Everyone carefully avoided the tail end, lest they accidentally impale themselves.
Ye Nai stood aside, just watching the excitement, while the others discussed with Brother Peng how to split the legs, whether to cut them vertically all the way down or horizontally in sections.
Actually, either way worked. It mainly depended on the axe skills, trying to preserve large pieces of the shell without making them too broken.
In the end, they decided to chop horizontally, cutting it into sections so it was easier for everyone to share.
Brother Peng wiped the axe and the spider legs three times before starting. Truth to be told, the way he swung the axe was really impressive. After the first mark, subsequent chops all landed on the previous marks without deviating; only a few tiny pieces of the shell chipped off.
This precise chopping skill and strength made Ye Nai want to learn seriously.
While Brother Peng was chopping the legs, the doorbell rang incessantly as the captains’ ordered deliveries arrived, including alcohol, stir-fried dishes from restaurants, and Brother Peng’s barbecue skills, enough for their entire group to feast on.
Ye Nai stored the fresh stir-fried dishes in the space to keep them warm. Once Brother Peng finished chopping the legs, everyone collectively began to clean the operating table, clear it off, place several induction cookers on it, set up pots, and started steaming the spider leg meat dish by dish.
Brother Peng went on to barbecue in the kitchen, equipped with a top-quality high-power home range hood, which was low noise and high suction; the smoky haze from the kitchen didn’t drift into the living room.
Plates of fresh sizzling barbecue were served, and everyone gathered around the operating table to eat. Brother Peng also mixed a large bowl of dipping sauce for the spider leg meat.
Apart from Ye Nai, everyone else had hands tough as iron, not afraid of heat, they directly grabbed the just-cooked spider legs, scraped with a spoon along the rim, and a whole chunk of meat plumped into a large dish.
Next, Ye Nai got his first piece.
“You brought it back, have a taste, see if it’s as delicious as crab leg meat.”
“These strands of meat, they even look like crab leg meat.” as Ye Nai picked up a large piece and dipped it into the sauce before tasting it, “Mmm, it tastes like it too, quite delicious, very fresh.”
“That’s great, it’s worth the effort for such difficult-to-get advanced ingredients.”
“The energy content is good too, it’d be even better if we had a female spider, especially one in mating season.”
“Why?”
“After mating, the mother spider lays eggs, and that’s when their internal energy is the most abundant, making the meat the tastiest.”
“Wow, you’ve turned this into a culinary experience?”
“Sure, it’s been fifty years since the Otherworld invasion.”
“If spider leg meat tastes so good, if we could farm it, we’d definitely start a breeding industry. It’s easier than raising crabs, no water needed.”
“Farming these giant spiders for meat? Let’s not, where would we get the feed from? These creatures eat meat.”
“True.”
Everyone continued to eat and chat, topics shifting here and there, mostly gossip about recent events. Ye Nai listened while becoming interested in the idea of farming spiders for their leg meat.
Once she became the secret mastermind behind the Secret Realm, she didn’t believe it couldn’t be done.
After eating for over an hour, everyone was stuffed, burping from the full meal.
All the spider leg meat on the table had been devoured, while the pot on the electric stove kept steaming batch after batch.
The steamed meat was packed by Brother Peng into containers, piling up high on the table, for Ye Nai to take home and continue enjoying, and they kept the shells to share.
This steaming temperature was nothing to the spider shells and did not affect their processing potential in terms of armor manufacturing.
Ye Nai tried the axe used by Brother Peng to chop the legs, size-wise it was suited to be hung on a belt as a hatchet. Despite its compact size, the axe head was not light, its own weight could cause significant damage when chopping.
“How’s the axe?”
“The weight’s a bit much, but it’s manageable. Maybe it’ll be even more suitable once I get a bit stronger.”
“Alright, if you think it’s manageable, just buy the readymade one.”
Everyone gathered around, all pulling out their phones, directing Ye Nai to enter the Awakener’s marketplace webpage, searching for axes, and pulling up a list that included the exact one Ye Nai was holding.
Clicking on that model to view its details, one could not only buy the readymade version but also request adjustments to specifics, like overall weight, handle length, axe head weight, what kind of steel to use, etc., although the style couldn’t be changed, other details could be slightly modified.
This was the first time Ye Nai bought an axe, she had no concept of them, having only ever dealt with the red-handled firefighter’s axe from childhood, not knowing which among many different types of axes would be the most practical.
So, she didn’t trouble herself, just buying the same model capable of chopping spider legs.
And she bought two.
One as a kitchen tool, another as a weapon.
To tell them apart, she requested one handle to be red, and it all cost her over fifty thousand.
Everyone wasn’t surprised when she bought two axes at once, assuming she wanted a backup, as they did the same, carrying both primary and backup weapons as long as they could manage.
After placing the order, it was time to wait for delivery. The country had established Weapon and Armor Manufacturing Centers only in a few key transport hub cities, bringing together relevant skilled Awakeners and ordinary people, employing both technology and superpowers for the manufacturing process.
Both spider leg shells, wanted by the captains and Brother Peng, were priced at thirty thousand each, totaling sixty thousand.
What do you think?
