Chapter 29: It's Over
"By the way, where are Mom and Sister Yan? How come I haven't seen them since I woke up?"
After chatting with He'er, Bai An'an's mood improved somewhat. At least He'er didn't seem to have been tampered with by Bai Xuerou, and she finally began to think about the main issue again.
Usually, after Bai Xuerou woke up, she would always wait for Bai An'an to discover her. But today, Bai An'an was surprised to find that when she finally managed to fall asleep and woke up, Bai Xuerou's face wasn't the first thing she saw.
Although Bai An'an understood that if the first person she saw was Bai Xuerou, she might have been scared enough to pass out again, she still wanted to know where Bai Xuerou was.
After spending these days together, Bai An'an understood that Bai Xuerou was a person who liked consistency. Under normal circumstances, she followed the same routine every day. But once Bai Xuerou disappeared at a certain point, it definitely meant she was doing something bad behind the scenes.
In this witch's mansion, Bai An'an never believed in coincidences. For all she knew, this entire mansion could actually be Bai Xuerou's body. And the dream she just had—Bai An'an felt that Bai Xuerou had something to do with it.
After all, if her body could be transformed like this, wouldn't modifying her mind be a simple matter?
"The Witch Madam went upstairs. As for Sister Yan, I'm not sure. She said she was going to the back garden, but when I went there, I couldn't find her."
He'er thought for a moment and told Bai An'an that Bai Xuerou was on the second floor. Upon hearing this, Bai An'an immediately thought of that room. The last time, she had seen Bai Xuerou coming out of the room at the end of the hallway, and it had scared her so badly she couldn't move.
What was she doing up there again? Could it be that she truly discovered I went into that room?
In any case, Bai An'an felt she had to return to that room to see if Bai Xuerou had discovered what she had done.
"I understand. Now come with me to the second floor. I have something to do."
Bai An'an quickly put on her slippers, took He'er's hand, and hurried upstairs.
Today, He'er was determined to be a good maid. No matter what orders Bai An'an gave, she would follow them, so she obediently followed behind.
As long as I keep doing this, An'an won't have those things done to her by the witch. I must endure...
Arriving on the second floor and seeing the closed door at the end, Bai An'an walked forward without hesitation. Her steps were so quick that even He'er could barely keep up.
This was the first time He'er had seen Bai An'an so anxious. Yesterday, in her heart, Bai An'an had always been a beautiful young lady with extremely stable emotions.
"Wait... Master, isn't that the room forbidden by the Witch Madam? What are you doing here?"
When Bai An'an brought He'er to the end of the corridor, He'er asked in confusion.
Wasn't she the one who told He'er that this room was off-limits? Why was she now putting herself at risk?
"Because... there's something I need to confirm. If I don't check, something terrible will happen!"
Bai An'an told He'er very solemnly, her determined eyes telling He'er she wasn't lying.
"I understand. Then I'll go in with you."
"Mmm..."
After saying this, Bai An'an placed her hand on the handle and pushed down. The door was still unlocked, attracting people to open it like Pandora's box.
"Creek—"
As the door opened, Bai An'an was about to go in when she was suddenly caught in a familiar and soft embrace. He'er's eyes widened instantly, and a gentle yet dangerous voice reached her ears again.
"My, why so rushed again? Good thing you bumped into Mom. If it were someone else, it would be terrible."
Bai Xuerou stroked Bai An'an's white little head, and just like when she first met her daughter, she held her daughter in her arms and "educated" her.
"I'm... I'm sorry, Mom..."
Bai An'an's entire body began to tremble, clearly not having expected Bai Xuerou to be at the door just as she opened it.
"Hmm, so, you two were just about to enter this room, weren't you? I don't recall touching the doorknob just now."
"Uh... this..."
"Witch... Witch Madam, the Master was... only trying to help me find something to treat my wound. We looked everywhere else and couldn't find anything, so we had no choice but to come here..."
Before Bai An'an could think of how to make excuses, He'er spoke first. She pulled up her sleeve, showing Bai Xuerou the arm that Bai An'an had scratched, afraid that Bai Xuerou would say those two words in the next second.
"Hmm?" Bai Xuerou looked at the bloody wound, tilted her head, and looked at her daughter again. "Really, daughter? Were you really just helping your maid find something to treat her wound?"@@novelbin@@
"Y-yes! He'er's wound was accidentally caused by me while I was sleeping. To make it up to her, I risked coming to this place you don't allow..."
"What about Yan? You could have asked her, couldn't you?"
"Sister Yan disappeared. Neither He'er nor I have seen her. We only know she said she was going to the back garden before she left..."
"I see..."
Bai Xuerou tilted her head back, her red eyes revealing a hint of something subtle, but she quickly returned to normal.
"You, come here," Bai Xuerou looked at He'er, asking her to come to her. He'er didn't dare defy Bai Xuerou and could only obediently come to Bai An'an's side.
Bai Xuerou grabbed He'er's hands, and a red stream of energy flowed from her fingertips to He'er's wound.
"Ugh...!"
When the red energy entered the wound, He'er immediately understood what Bai Xuerou was doing to her. This witch was using her magic to heal her.
The witch's magic was powerful. When a massive amount of magic surged into the wound, He'er felt a burst of pain, and couldn't help but recall what the school principal had once said.
So... a witch's magic really can crush a person...
Within seconds, He'er saw her wound being repaired by the magic, returning to what appeared to be a healthy state.
Magic... can also have healing effects?
He'er couldn't help but wonder.
"Alright, you follow too. Since Yan isn't here, I'll personally cook."
Bai Xuerou picked up Bai An'an and headed downstairs. But at the last moment, Bai An'an still managed to see inside the room.
Her eyes immediately locked onto the area above the large bed, but she couldn't find the big photograph that had been there. There was only a bare white wall.
"I'm... I'm doomed..."

Meanwhile, in a distant city, in a newly opened orphanage, a girl of about eleven was tugging at her mother's apron, constantly clamoring.
"Wah! Mom, Mom, just give it to me! An'an just called, and you missed it because you were busy!"
"Oh, stop making a fuss. That call clearly wasn't from within the country. It might have been a scam call. Besides, what does a little kid like you need a phone for?"
"I'm not a little kid! Mom, have you ever seen an eleven-year-old already in middle school?"
"Alright, alright, here you go. But don't blame me when the call comes again."
Mrs. Gu couldn't take it anymore and finally gave her phone to Gu Xue. As soon as she got the phone, Gu Xue bounced to the orphanage entrance, staring at the lock screen, waiting for her former little sister to call again.
But as she was intently watching the phone, a shadow appeared on her face.
"Little sister, may I borrow your phone?"
Gu Xue looked up in confusion and found a cute big sister with twin ponytails and only one arm standing in front of her, smiling.
What do you think?
