Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl

Chapter 126 126: Yin Li Got Promoted

Chen Ying caught up on some sleep and woke up just as it was getting dark.

Mendun'er had already descended from the tree and started self-serve mode.

Seeing Chen Ying come over, it gloomily placed its head on his legs and scraped his hand with a bear paw, signaling for a scratch.

The bear was downcast, the bear was not happy.

"My dear grandma, what's wrong with you now?"

"I want to go home," Mendun'er sighed, "Your human bears are just so-so. If you can't find one soon, I'm really going to head back."

"We're looking, we're looking; this time, I promise there won't be any more mix-ups."

The center had no shortage of bears, and among those of the right age, they picked and chose, narrowing down to five or six.

Given the proximity, they gave priority to arranging blind dates in the same area.

If this still didn't work out, they could only let Chen Ying take grandma to choose herself.

Hey, picking concubines for the emperor must have been something like this back in the day, right?

After two days of effort, Mendun'er showed a bit of interest in one of the pandas.

This panda was from the wild second generation, not very famous in the domestic cat fan circles, but its genes were impressive, with both parents being bears rescued from the wild.

The center was known for its thick-faced handsome bears, and there was no she-bear it couldn't charm.

Initially, the center hadn't considered sending Keke into action. After all, Keke was a bit older, had many children, and normally wouldn't continue breeding.

Unexpectedly, grandma Mendun'er took a liking to Grandpa Ke, which made the center's staff both happy and frustrated.

Happy because it meant another addition to the center's rich gene pool.

Frustrated because the young cats were useless, and when it really mattered, grandpa had to step in.

They arranged for Mendun'er to stay in the room next to Keke's to get acquainted first.

The mature and stable Grandpa Ke showed little interest in this little missy, and since it wasn't mating season, Mendun'er's allure was even less than bamboo's to him.

But Mendun'er was different; seeing Grandpa Ke's handsome appearance, his brown fur, completely unlike any male bear she had met, her eyes widened, and she lay by the iron bars with a silly smile.

Starstruck bear, embarrassing to watch!

Mendun'er decided not to leave and instead wait for the arrival of the warm spring next year.

"I will give birth to the most beautiful, strongest baby!"

Mendun'er's gaze lingered on Keke, making the aloof Grandpa Ke uncomfortable; he grabbed some bamboo, climbed onto the Big Baby throne, and started showing off with his back turned to Mendun'er.

"Ah, even his back is so attractive; so handsome!"

Chen Ying felt that if he stayed any longer, he might harbor a desire to kill a bear.

"Mendun'er really likes Keke, and now's not the best time for mating. You guys just handle it for now, and if the timing is right for them both, it would be better to get it over with earlier. This grandma is too much of a bother."

The staff responsible for taking care of Mendun'er adored the bear when it wasn't throwing tantrums. They patted their chest and guaranteed they would fulfill Mendun'er's wishes.

Mendun'er was a wild bear, and Keke was a captive bear.

Logically, they should go to the release area and naturally mate there.

But Keke's personality was aloof and cold, with a history of violent incidents involving female bears. After discussing with the leaders and keepers of the center, they decided to maintain the status quo. As long as Mendun'er didn't insist on leaving, they would wait until after mating to let her go back to the wild to give birth.

Seeing that grandma Mendun'er finally had someone in mind, Chen Ying watched for a couple of days to make sure there were no issues, then packed up his things and headed back home.

Day by day, like firefighters, there was never a moment of peace.

Returning to the mountain rescue station, I finally felt the gentle passage of peaceful times.

Leopard Sister fetched Little Sen a T-shirt to use as scrubs for a change of clothes, and she also made sure to supervise him cleaning and drying them daily.

When Leo saw Leopard Sister wearing clothes, he remembered his buddies had clothes and insisted on wearing some too.

There was no precedent for dressing pandas up in clothes, and if he really did, Little Sen was sure to be fired on the spot.

Leo was a bear with a big temper, and seeing that Little Sen wouldn't listen to him, he'd throw little tantrums every day, which included but were not limited to clinging to legs, asking for piggyback rides, and demanding to be hand-fed.

Even his mother, Jiaojiao, couldn't stand it anymore and slapped him onto the platform, making him roll several times.

Dazed by the slap, Leo quickly snapped back to his senses and started causing a ruckus, hopping around like a little dog.

Chen Ying was originally sunbathing and napping on the second-floor balcony, but hearing its constant barking, he stuck his head out to look and decided not to partake in the daily amusement of "child spanking for no good reason."

Little Sen was staring at his phone while keeping an eye on the panda family of three.

"Brother Ying, look at the group chat. Everyone's talking about job transfers."

After October 1st, the rescue station officially transitioned into a protection station.

The country's relevant laws were becoming more and more comprehensive, and the protection station merged the functions of several units into a fundamental point, which was beneficial for the unified deployment and execution of work.

This wind had been blowing since May or June, so it wasn't surprising that it had now taken effect.

I was only slightly surprised about the leadership arrangement at the protection station.

Sister Dai told me she was vying to be the director of the protection station with Yin Li as her deputy.

But when the new appointments came, Yin Li was named the director of the Jiamu Gully protection station, with the deputy director being sent directly from above, specifically in charge of monitoring and propaganda work.

I hadn't finished reading the appointment notice when Yin Li's call came through.

"Did you see the appointment?" Yin Li sounded weary. "I only found out the specifics today. Regarding the animal protection and rescue, there are separate arrangements from above, and it's very likely they will separate from the protection station."

Once separated, all animals and equipment from the former rescue station would have to be removed.

"I'm currently on my way with Director Bai to meet with the leaders of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau. The Jiamu Gully rescue station has a great responsibility. If it's cancelled, subsequent issues will bring tremendous pressure."

Yin Li's call to me was to keep me calm, fearing that I might lose control of my emotions and clash with the leaders.

Before Yin Li's call had finished, Sister Dai's call came in.

I hurriedly hung up on Yin Li, and as soon as I answered Sister Dai's call, she told me to turn off my phone and that she would contact me directly through the computer if needed.

Little Sen was at a loss, looking at me with wide eyes, his hands clenched into fists with nerves.

I didn't heed Sister Dai's words. After some thought, I dialed Professor Song Halu's number.

Professor Song seemed to be in a meeting, and after he picked up my call, he asked me to hold on for a moment. After two or three minutes, the background noise on his side quieted down.

"Little Chen, I was expecting you would call me. Don't worry, your rescue station is not under the jurisdiction of the protection station. However, your project is affiliated with a project of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau. The existence of the rescue station is an indispensable part of the project, so at least until the project is completed, you have nothing to worry about. You still have your teacher and me, you know."

Professor Song's voice was calm and collected, greatly soothing my anxiety.

"I understand, Professor Song. I'm just worried about the animals here at the rescue station."

"I know. I met with your mentor the day before yesterday, and when your rescue station came up, he was very pleased. He even said that after the New Year, if there's nothing to do, he'll come and stay with you for a few days. Same for me, once I wrap up the work at hand, I'll come stay with you for a while."

"I heard you have two nests of newly hatched birds there. Later, organize some videos and send them to me. Hatching at this time is not normal, and it has research value."

With this discussion set the tone.

Professor Bai, a top figure in the domestic veterinary field, and Professor Song, an expert in ornithology, whatever they said, even the leaders of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau would take their suggestions seriously.
