Chapter 756: Chapter 756: Prosperity Street_1
Purple Summers immediately became alert, her eyes filled with aversion, “What have you done again?”
Nathaniel Summers smiled faintly, his tone sarcastic, “What do you think I could do? He’s the mighty family head, how would I dare to provoke him?”
Purple Summers felt there was a hidden meaning in his words.
Then she thought: Could it be that Nathaniel knows that Alexander Summers will soon no longer be the family head? …And what about Damian Howard, does his awakening have anything to do with Nathaniel?
The two had no connection, and to forcibly link them together was unimaginable.
Unconcerned with Purple Summers’ silence, Nathaniel continued to make casual conversation with her.
...
“You know, fate is interesting. When you break it down, it’s ‘life’ and ‘fortune,’ where ‘life’ is predetermined and cannot be changed, but ‘fortune’ rises and falls, constantly changing. For someone like Alexander Summers, who is blessed by the heavens, his life is too tough. To deal with him, you can only take a shot when he’s down on his luck.”
Nathaniel’s lips curled into a smile: “That’s why I chose to come back at this time.”
—At this time, Damian Howard awakens, Howard Corporation faces internal power splits, and Alexander Summers wants to emerge unscathed from this murky water. He would surely be completely drained, and thus unable to attend to other matters.
Purple Summers understood Nathaniel’s implication, it was, to put it simply, that Alexander would be particularly unlucky during this period and everything would go against him.
She frowned and asked, “Did Mr. Ghost Hayes tell you all this? How much money did he take from you to help you like this!”
“I did try to buy him off, but he’s too scared of Roy Howard. He said Roy Howard has a destiny not to be trifled with in times of chaos.” Nathaniel chuckled and said, “It took me several months to find him, but as soon as he heard I was up against Roy Howard, he was so frightened he ran away. I don’t even know where he’s hiding now.”
Just then, they reached a red light, and Nathaniel slowed down to a stop, his fingers gently tapping the steering wheel, as if he were sighing, yet also as if in contemplation: “However… the trip was very rewarding, and not a waste of effort.”
Purple Summers guessed that the reward he mentioned might be related to opening Ghost Eyes. But why would Mr. Ghost Hayes help Nathaniel open Ghost Eyes if he was afraid to offend Roy Howard?
For the remainder of the journey, both were preoccupied with their own thoughts, without any further conversation.
Purple Summers had never been to Prosperity Street before and only realized upon arriving that it was an old urban district.
The grey, low-rise buildings were densely packed, with narrow passageways between them. Damp clothes and bedsheets hung in front of every floor’s windows, dripping water onto the awnings of the shops on the ground floor, creating a disturbing drip-drop sound that further dampened the cement ground, leaving puddles and wet stains everywhere.
The place was dilapidated and desolate, with garbage scattered everywhere due to the mess.
Yet it was bustling with life, with many people around, and the street corners were filled with small vendors and stalls offering services such as bicycle repair, shoe mending, locksmithing, printing… and various cheap fast foods.
Nathaniel stopped the car at the entrance of an alleyway that became narrower further in, cluttered with all sorts of junk and refuse, making it impossible to drive any farther.
“After Evelyn Willard was admitted to the hospital, she woke up pretty quickly,” Nathaniel said, “Worried about being identified as a drug user, she escaped from the hospital while the nurse wasn’t paying attention. Ironically, that’s how she ended up saving her own life.” He continued, “She now lives here. Look up at the window on the east side of the third floor—that’s her room.” @@novelbin@@
Purple Summers looked up upon hearing this.
In the cold winter, the windows were closed, and nothing could be discerned.
After looking for a while, Purple Summers felt somewhat foolish for coming to such a place in the freezing cold just to check whether an unrelated person was dead or alive.
“How did you know Evelyn Willard lives here?” Purple Summers asked.
“Shh…” Nathaniel’s voice was low, his eyes gleaming with excitement, “Look quickly, Alexander’s people have arrived.”
What do you think?
