Chapter 68: Chapter 68: The Teacher’s Funeral Arrangements
Hearing Qiao Qiao say she won’t leave anymore, Zhao Wenjing was overjoyed, skipped the breakfast prepared early by the maid, and directly instructed Qiao Yi to go to the largest hotel in the city for a proper celebration.
Halfway through the meal, Qiao Benqing’s phone rang.
After hanging up, Qiao Benqing looked at Qiao Yi.
“Why did you blacklisted Yanchuan? Hurry up and unblock him, I’ve already told Yanchuan to pick you up, you can just go with him later.”
The steak in Qiao Yi’s mouth was only half chewed when she froze.
How dare Lu Yanchuan tattle! Unbelievable!
Seeing Qiao Yi’s reluctance, Qiao Benqing glared at her before speaking.
“Yanchuan’s mentor has had an accident, Yanchuan wants to take you to meet the old man before he passes away. This is an honor for you, so don’t throw a tantrum!”
An accident like this happened? Why didn’t Lu Yanchuan tell her?
Qiao Yi hurriedly swallowed what was in her mouth, took out her phone to unblock Lu Yanchuan from the blacklist, and a stream of messages poured in.
However, Lu Yanchuan was probably busy at that moment and did not reply to Qiao Yi’s messages.
Qiao Yi became somewhat restless, considering how she had impulsively blacklisted him that morning, she felt a rare sense of remorse.
“Yanchuan is Sister’s fiancé, right? I’ve heard of his name before, is he good to Sister?”
Qiao Qiao curiously looked at Qiao Benqing then at Qiao Yi, very curious about this brother-in-law she had never met.
Before Qiao Yi could reply, Zhao Wenjing started to introduce Qiao Qiao to her two new brothers-in-law.
With such an incident, even the joy of Qiao Qiao’s return home dissipated, and with a distracted Qiao Yi barely finishing her meal, Lu Yanchuan was already waiting outside for her.
“Qiaoqiao, I’m leaving first, I’ll bring you a gift when I come back in a few days.”
Qiao Yi patted her younger brother on the head and quickly left.
Lu Yanchuan was meditating in the car, and only opened his eyes when Qiao Yi got in.
“Why didn’t you tell me about such a big thing?”
“It was sudden.”
It was indeed sudden. He received a message from his junior last night, and after arranging everything for the company overnight, he then thought to bring Qiao Yi with him.
“Alright, next time something like this happens, you must tell me. It was wrong of me to blacklist you, but you are not allowed to act so impulsively anymore, otherwise, I’ll block you again, you hear!”
Her irritated mood gradually calmed down amidst Qiao Yi’s nagging.
Qiao Yi was suddenly hugged and was a bit slow to react, but seeing Lu Yanchuan’s exhausted face, she rather unusually complied.
In a private hospital in the suburbs of Tian City, Qiao Yi and Lu Yanchuan went through the nurse’s thorough disinfection before entering the ward.
A snow-white ward housed an old woman with white hair.
On the way there, Lu Yanchuan had already told Qiao Yi her identity.
Old Madam Gong, the close friend of Lu Yanchuan’s mother and his mentor, they have always shared strong feelings. After Old Madam Lu’s passing, Lu Yanchuan has been treating her like his own mother.
Now this old madam was also about to leave, one can imagine the grief in Lu Yanchuan’s heart.
He might come across as cold, but that doesn’t mean he is unfeeling. Often, those who seem indifferent pour much more emotion into those they truly care about.
Qiao Yi watched as Lu Yanchuan sat beside Old Madam Gong’s bed, holding the old lady’s hand. Despite his still indifferent expression, Qiao Yi felt that Lu Yanchuan was crying.
“The teacher has been sick for three years, and I’ve always been busy, hardly able to visit more than a few times each year.”
It took a while for Lu Yanchuan to utter that single sentence. Qiao Yi was shocked, and when she looked at him, she saw two tear streaks on his face that had not yet fully faded.
“If the teacher knew you were here, she would certainly be happy.”
Qiao Yi didn’t know how to comfort him, but Lu Yanchuan shook his head upon hearing her words.
Lu Yanchuan seemed to have shed his usual cold exterior. At the old lady’s bedside, he showed his softest side.
“The teacher wanted me to get married a long time ago. It’s a bit late to bring you to meet her now.”
The sickroom fell silent, the only sound being the regular beeping of the heart rate monitor by the bed.
Lu Yanchuan was still Lu Yanchuan; he wouldn’t be overwhelmed by temporary sorrow. After tucking Old Madam Gong in and leaving the sickroom, Lu Yanchuan reverted to his usual self.
“Senior Lu, you’re here. The teacher might wake up around noon, but she’s becoming less and less lucid now, I’m afraid…”
More than a dozen people were standing outside the door, all of them Old Madam Gong’s students.
In her youth, Old Madam Gong married into the Gong Family, but her husband passed away in a car accident only a couple of years later, and she lost her child as well. After that, Old Madam Gong never remarried; it has always been her students and some distant relatives of the Gong Family who looked after her.
“All the arrangements for the teacher’s funeral have been prepared, please take a look.”
A junior brother passed over a tablet with all the arrangements for Old Madam Gong’s funeral. Lu Yanchuan glanced at it briefly before handing it back to him.
“You all handle these matters. I only have one request: no one will get any of the teacher’s possessions after her death. I will turn the teacher’s old residence into a museum, and I do not want anything there to be missing.”
As soon as Lu Yanchuan finished speaking, some in the crowd changed their expressions, but under the pressure of his formidable presence, they dared not speak out.
“Xiao Luo, you handle this. If anyone dares to interfere, deal with them directly.”
Lu Yanchuan took out a bunch of keys from his pocket and tossed them to the young man holding the tablet amidst various gazes from the crowd.
The young man, Xiao Luo, was taken aback, holding the keys and muttering without being able to say anything.
“What’s the matter, does anyone disagree?”
“Senior Lu, we’ve been the ones taking care of the teacher while she’s been bedridden. We should be the ones handling her possessions after she’s gone. You’ve ignored the teacher for years, so what gives you the right to come here and boss us around now!”
A woman from the crowd stood up; she looked quite a bit older than Lu Yanchuan but still referred to him as Senior Lu.
Lu Yanchuan merely glanced at her before looking at Xiao Luo, his gaze asking who she was.
“She’s the youngest daughter of the current Family Head of the Gong Family, taken in by the teacher two years ago.”
Xiao Luo explained quietly, clearly afraid to look at the woman.
Lu Yanchuan nodded, then, after seeing the triumphant expression on the woman’s face, repeated his previous statement.
“Handle the task I’ve entrusted you with. If anyone dares to obstruct, deal with them immediately.”
After finishing, he ignored the woman’s displeased expression and prepared to leave with Qiao Yi.
The woman couldn’t simply let Lu Yanchuan walk away. She didn’t dare to attack Lu Yanchuan, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t target someone by his side.
As Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi were passing by her, she reached out and grabbed at Qiao Yi’s arm!
What do you think?
