Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Using the Knife

“Ah!”

A woman’s scream echoed through the hospital corridor. Qiao Yi held Gong Ting’s head with one hand through her hair, and with the other hand grabbed Gong Ting’s arms firmly behind her back, pressing her against the wall of the corridor.

“You bitch! Let go of me! Do you know who I am! You’re dead!”

Gong Ting screamed and struggled, but Qiao Yi completely disregarded her efforts, simply tightening her grip and leaving Gong Ting with only enough strength to shriek in pain.

Lu Yanchuan watched indifferently as Qiao Yi manhandled Gong Ting, and only after Gong Ting’s voice had gone hoarse did he tap Qiao Yi’s hand, signaling her to let go.

“Does anyone else have any objections now?”

...

The corridor fell utterly silent, except for Gong Ting’s painful moaning as she lay collapsed on a chair.

Qiao Yi muttered to herself, feeling that Lu Yanchuan was treating her more like a bodyguard than paying her any attention!

Though she grumbled internally, Qiao Yi’s expression matched Lu Yanchuan’s, appearing as if she had not been the one to rough up Gong Ting.

No one else spoke in the corridor, and under the gaze of the crowd, Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi walked out, with Qiao Yi even faintly hearing threats from Gong Ting behind her.

The sudden incident with Old Madam Gong disrupted Lu Yanchuan’s plans. After dealing with the affair, Lu Yanchuan took Qiao Yi to a hotel and then hurriedly left.

Qiao Yi curled up on the sofa, sipping her milk tea, but her mind kept going back to Lu Yanchuan in the hospital room.

Such an incident must have upset him, or he wouldn’t have seemed so cold in the corridor.

Qiao Yi felt she understood Lu Yanchuan quite well. Although he seemed cold and heartless, she knew from their time together that he simply didn’t bother with people unless necessary, generally preferring not to start conflicts.

Whether it was intervening in the Gong Family matters or arranging Old Madam Gong’s affairs, others perceived Lu Yanchuan as domineering and aggressive, but Qiao Yi felt that he was expressing his affection for Old Madam Gong in such a manner.

He wanted Old Madam Gong to have a peaceful departure.

He wanted to silence discordant voices and deter the troublemakers.

Qiao Yi knew she probably couldn’t help Lu Yanchuan much, the best she could do was probably to avoid causing him further trouble.

“Ding dong!”

As Qiao Yi was lost in her thoughts, the room door suddenly knocked. She got up to open it, only to have a group of people burst in.

Over a dozen burly men rushed in, pushing Qiao Yi further inside.

A woman then came through the parted crowd, astonishingly it was Gong Ting whom she had just seen in the morning!

Seeing Gong Ting here was unexpected for Qiao Yi, yet somehow it made sense.

The Gong Family was a powerful local force in Tian City, and although they weren’t as prominent as the Qiao or Lu Families, tracking down Qiao Yi and Lu Yanchuan in their territory wasn’t too difficult.

This bode ill.

Qiao Yi stepped backward until she bumped into a coffee table and stopped.

“Are you Lu Yanchuan’s wife?”

Gong Ting scrutinized Qiao Yi from top to bottom, and after clearly seeing Qiao Yi’s face, jealousy surged uncontrollably within her.

She had always been considered a favored child, adored and pursued by family and friends from the moment she was born.

Today, Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi, the two people she encountered, almost completely humiliated her, especially Qiao Yi. This woman even dared to lay hands on her in public, causing her such great embarrassment!

Originally, Gong Ting thought Qiao Yi was something like Lu Yanchuan’s bodyguard, but after investigating, she discovered that Qiao Yi was actually Lu Yanchuan’s wife!

This revelation shocked and excited her!

If she could control Qiao Yi, wouldn’t Lu Yanchuan be right in the palm of her hand!

With such a win-win situation, Gong Ting rushed to the hotel where Lu Yanchuan and Qiao Yi were staying without a moment’s hesitation.

Qiao Yi was no fool. Upon hearing Gong Ting’s words, she immediately understood her intentions, and her demeanor relaxed.

“What’s the matter? Miss Gong, what wisdom do you wish to impart?”

Qiao Yi’s calm response took Gong Ting aback. Upon closer inspection, she realized that Qiao Yi was truly composed, without a trace of nervousness, looking at her as if she were just an ordinary friend.

Gong Ting even saw a hint of amusement in Qiao Yi’s eyes!

“Miss Qiao, I believe you understand my intentions. I dislike playing guessing games with clever people. Do you plan to come with me willingly, or should my men take you forcibly?”

“What a pity, Miss Gong. I find my stay here quite comfortable and have no intention of changing hotels. Thank you for your kind concern.”

Qiao Yi shrugged her shoulders and then moved back a few steps, sitting down on the sofa as if she didn’t take Gong Ting seriously at all.

This attitude was truly disrespectful, making Gong Ting’s face darken, and the black-clad men behind her stepped forward, ready to lay hands on Qiao Yi.

“Miss Gong, you must be aware of my background. I assume you would not want to trouble the Gong Family, would you?”

Qiao Yi, unabashedly arrogant, sat there with her legs crossed, as if she wasn’t the one surrounded.

“Whether the Gong Family faces trouble or not is not for you to decide! Take her away!”

Gong Ting, never a patient person, infuriated by Qiao Yi’s provocations, waved her hand and ordered her men to seize Qiao Yi.

Qiao Yi shifted her wrist and suddenly leaned forward, pulling a fruit knife from the coffee table.

The knife handle rotated in her hand, and without hesitation, she stabbed it into the palm of the first hulking man who charged at her.

The room was too small and crowded with so many people rushing in; they couldn’t coordinate their movements. Meanwhile, Qiao Yi, alone with a knife, managed effectively, quickly injuring several men.

“Hisss—”

Even as formidable as Qiao Yi was, one person could not overcome a dozen or more. After injuring another seven or eight men, she was finally subdued when someone kicked her wrist, causing the fruit knife to fall to the ground and her to be heavily pinned down on the coffee table.

Gong Ting hadn’t expected that coming to capture Qiao Yi would drive her to use a knife, and now things had gotten out of hand, definitely not something easy to settle!

What to do!

Qiao Yi belonged to the Qiao Family and was also Lu Family’s daughter-in-law. Despite the Gong Family’s influence in Tian City, they couldn’t contend with both the Qiao and Lu Families!

If Qiao Yi had not been harmed, even if they had taken her away, the Gong Family could simply offer some compensation to cover things up.

But now, the situation escalated to the use of a knife, which was beyond what Gong Ting could handle!

Qiao Yi, pinned on the coffee table, moved her fingers slightly and sighed regretfully.

After all these years of not practicing, to think she’d be subdued while armed, it was simply embarrassing!
