Chapter 143- Suspect
Chapter 143- Suspect
The atmosphere of the huge room was quite grim as several people wearing similar uniforms sat around an oval table.
They were gathered here on an emergency notice, for a situation about which most of them were unaware.
Soon, the huge door of the meeting room was parted, to reveal a man in his late fifties walking inside with a straight posture. His grey hairs were neatly tied, and a monocle on his left eye.
Everyone in the room remained quiet as the man stood at the head side of the table and looked at everyone with a stern look.
“For those who don't know the reason behind this sudden meeting,” He paused and the projector showed a specific resort on the screen for everyone to witness.
The man stepped away, to allow them to gaze at the resort comfortably, as he added, “Yesterday, intense dark energy, Level A no less, was felt from this place.”
The atmosphere of the room turned grim as they heard him intently, “It is suspected that more than one demon was present inside that resort yesterday and upon interrogation and checking the database, it seemed they arrived only yesterday. All of them.”
The sensors didn't report any demonic presence before yesterday; as such, it was suspected that all the demons arrived at once.
The man heaved a long sigh, “And the one whose energy was sensed used some kind of spell that….cost us one of our friends.”
Many of the agents’ eyes widened upon hearing the news. As one of them asked, “Did the inhumane sense the agent?”
The grey-haired shook his head, “No…the spell wasn't intended to harm anyone; it paused the time and under the effect of relentless demonic energy, the agent wasn't able to survive.”
Being exposed to demonic energy cost the agent their life—they realized.
The man added, “Their existence perished before they could have sent the beacon of help. And upon searching their room, all we found was this…”
Another picture came up—it was of a young boy around the age of seventeen or so. He had silky black hair and red eyes. Apart from his handsome looks, there was nothing more noticeable about him.
One of the several agents widened her eyes upon seeing that face since she had met the boy once before.
And not only met, she was fucked by him!
The commander didn't notice her reaction and continued, “Name is Fujiwara Minoru. Age 17. Lives with his adoptive parents and sister, and has only a single close friend.”
“But sir…what’s there to suspect?” Another agent asked, to which the grey-haired man, said,
“The suspicious thing is his looks,” Saying so, two pictures were shown—one from a month and a half ago where the same boy looked pale, thin and shorter. His hair was a mess and he looked nothing like the one on the other side of the slide.
It was like he had gone through several years of transformation.
“A possible demon?” It wasn't unknown that Devils could turn humans into their slaves or apostles. And once turned, the appearance of those people shifts—sometimes for worse as well.
“Possibly an incubus?” Someone suggested that in terms of beauty, no one surpasses that specific demon race.
The commander didn't agree nor disagreed, “There is no absolute evidence that this boy, Minoru, is a demon, let alone an incubus.”
Someone asked, “Can't we just bring him in…and interrogate a little?” That would have been the most efficient way to reveal the truth.
There are several ways for the Vanquisher to discern whether someone is a demon or not. There are a couple of mind readers as well, who can collect all the detailed information which the boy might have.
However, “After what happened last year…we cannot bring someone in without having evidence.”
Last year, seventeen humans were brought in for interrogation without any proof of them being demons, and they all ended up being normal humans, but the torture they went through left severe trauma in their remembrance. And four of them died as well.
The Vanquisher involved in the case was taking revenge on those people and was later sentenced to death for his actions.
That's why a new law was introduced where they have to first submit some kind of evidence to show that the suspect has some relation to the Dark World.
The commander sternly stated, “Although we have a picture, and some hints that the boy might be involved with the Dark forces, we cannot bring him in just because. Also, we shouldn't forget that there were multiple demonic presences during the incident. As such, we need to gather information of who they might be before restraining them at once.”
Returning to his previous position, he looked at everyone slowly and asked, “Now, is there anything any of you want to say?”
There was grave silence that descended upon the room. The lady, who spent an hour with Minoru, hesitated for a long time about whether she should tell them about her meeting with him or not.
However, not only was it an embarrassing tale that a grown-up woman got seduced by a young boy, but it was also a shame on her position as a field commander that she couldn't sense his demonic presence that day.
In the end, she decided to stay silent and investigate the matter by herself.
‘To rectify my mistake I shall look into this matter by myself first….’
