Chapter 375 366 Enters the Shelter

"In a moment, I'll say you're my friends, just staying at the Shelter for a few nights. The Shelter has many rules, and the inspections are very strict. You might need to take out all your weapons. If you're worried, you can hide the weapons somewhere outside the Shelter first," Bu thoughtfully reminded Bai Zhongqi.

Bai Zhongqi smiled: "Thank you, we'll manage."

He didn't mind his guns falling into the hands of the locals. Although these were high-level items far beyond their understanding, like the electromagnetic pistol Bai Zhongqi had given to Bu before, they were unusable without being unlocked.

Bu arrived at the entrance to the underground Shelter, which had a set of security identification systems. Everyone leaving had a set of passwords, each Hunting Group's password was different, and they changed frequently. After the password, a guard would conduct a search, which was very strict.

After Bu entered the Hunting Group's passcode, the door access voice system opened up.

"Old Bu, you're back. How did the hunt go this time?"

"Took down a giant bug and got a bit of Eternal Crystal Stone."

"That's terrific. The big assembly is a week away. If we have fewer Eternal Crystal Stones than Shelter 147, it's a minor embarrassment, but if they get better alien weapons, we'll be at an even bigger disadvantage."

"Hmm. Yes, that's true. Sa, I've brought a few friends this time. They might need to stay at our Shelter for a few days."

The voice in the door access system became tense, "Old Bu, how can you do something so against the rules? As an elder like you, you should know better. Our Shelter has a very strict system, and we don't allow outsiders in."

"Sa, these are my good friends. Is there a way to make an exception for them?"

With reluctance, Sa said, "I'd really like to help you out; I trust you, old Bu. But I must report this to the security department for a decision."

"Okay." Bu didn't say much more.

About ten minutes later, a lift from the Shelter rose up, and three people stepped out. The one in the middle was pale, slightly frail-looking, squinting his eyes, and not very straightforward. The other two were guards, armed and looking very alert.

"Bu, these are the friends you mentioned?" asked the small-eyed man.

Bu felt uneasy seeing who had come; he gave Bai Zhongqi a look, signaling him to stay calm.

"Yes, Officer Kou, they come from the distant Shelter 577, here to attend the big marketplace event."

The small-eyed man eyed them suspiciously, "Shelter 577? What kind of place is that? Never heard of it. You bring people with unknown backgrounds to the Shelter; seems like you're the one with ulterior motives."

Bai Zhongqi didn't need to look to know that this man named Kou was clearly one of the authorities Bu had mentioned, and they didn't get along at all.

Bang clenched his fists tightly. If it weren't for the older Hunting Group members holding him back, he might have punched the man right there.

However, the small-eyed man suddenly noticed Bai Zhongqi and his companions' discarded Battle Armor, and the guns placed to the side; a gleam shone in his already small eyes.

Bu seemed not to notice Kou's reaction and went on to say, "These friends of mine assisted us in the hunt for the prairie giant bugs. They're not sharing in our Eternal Crystal Stones, which is already quite the favor. They're just hoping to lodge here for a short while, and I ask if you, Officer Kou, could possibly accommodate us."

Kou's expression changed as he rubbed his nose quickly with his finger and said, "The Shelter doesn't pay back favors owed by individuals. It's not impossible to offer lodging, but there ought to be a fee, right? What could you provide the Shelter with?"

Bai Zhongqi pointed to the twin-wheel vehicle at his feet, pressed it, and it transformed into a box, saying, "How about this?"

Kou was astonished to see the vehicle turn into something so portable, his eyes revealing greed. He wasn't just looking at the item but also observing the other objects in Bai Zhongqi and his companions' possession.

"Doesn't look like anything particularly powerful."

Angered, Bang said, "But this is alien merchandise."

Kou inwardly rejoiced; his suspicions were being confirmed. He strolled over quietly, had his men take away the box, and then told Bai Zhongqi, "Outsiders entering the Shelter must surrender all possessions, especially weapons for safekeeping—that's the rule. If you accept this, I can allow you a few days' stay."

Of course, Bai Zhongqi didn't mind. He smiled slightly and said, "Then thank you, Officer."

Kou was even happier; he could see that each item these people held was extraordinary, and if he could get his hands on them, it would be a significant fortune. He didn't care how powerful the alien weapons were; he only cared about how much money they could fetch.

Bu was surprised by Bai Zhongqi's choice but seeing his confident demeanor, he understood that these aliens had contingencies in place, at least not fearing a petty person like Kou.

Having surrendered all their equipment to the guards and wearing only ordinary clothes, Bai Zhongqi, Nan Ma, and the others followed Bu into the Shelter.

Kou even disappeared without paying further attention to Bai Zhongqi or Bu.

Bang, still young, worriedly said to Bai Zhongqi, "Your stuff has been taken by that guy Kou; he definitely won't return it to you!"

Bai Zhongqi laughed, "Let him take it; it's useless anyway. When we want it back, we can naturally retrieve it."

Bu caught Bai Zhongqi's confidence but still admonished them, worried about the catastrophe a powerful alien might cause inside the Shelter, "If needed, I can help you get your things back, but I hope you won't wreak havoc in the Shelter. After all, it's the home of thousands of us."

To a leader of an Interstellar Civilization ruling over billions of people, Bu's earnest request should have held no meaning, but Bai Zhongqi still nodded slightly.

This operation on Taoran Star was the least resource-intensive and most low-key he had ever conducted. He had grown accustomed to using absolute power as a Chancellor of a civilization, but his hands were tied on Taoran Star. Though it didn't mean he couldn't solve problems, he still wanted to investigate the mysteries of the Benefactor Civilization on Taoran Star in a better way.

The big marketplace in a few days was an excellent entry point. He planned to join Bu's Hunting Group to see what the Benefactors were up to.

As for Kou, after returning to the planet and seeing how things had changed without putting forward further requests, he was very obediently following Bai Zhongqi's moves. Bai Zhongqi hoped to take this opportunity to test Kou, to see if he could sincerely work for the Iridium Star Earth civilization.
