Chapter 376 367 Narrow and Wild

In his own room, Kou greedily eyed the Iridium Star equipment scattered all over the floor. Even with his limited education, he could recognize that these were immensely valuable alien weapons. Although he was unclear about their specific functions, this did not prevent him from knowing that these items could sell for a good price.

Kou did not consider how much power these weapons would add to his influence within the Shelter. Being a minor character and a low member of the ruling class, he believed that his own benefit was more practical than that of those above him.

"But how on Earth do I open these things?" Kou fretted, as though he were looking at a gorgeous woman but realized he lacked the means to approach her, scratching his head anxiously.

Whether it was the firearms or the Battle Armor, he found no way to open them. These alien weapons were evidently more complex than any he had encountered before.

"Do I really need to go ask those people how to use these?" Though Kou was a petty man, he was also vain, and he felt embarrassed to ask such a question.

"Hmph, I'm going to kill them here anyway. After I tie them up, I'll force the method out of them," he muttered.

Kou felt very sure of himself, having spent decades within the Shelter and scarcely visiting the surface of Earth. His experiences were extremely limited. The most powerful person he had ever seen was the leader of the Shelter. Unlike him, who had ventured onto the surface and encountered more people and creatures, Kou's worldview was narrow.

He didn't believe there was anyone more formidable and thought that once inside the Shelter, he could manipulate anyone as he pleased.

Meanwhile, Bai Zhongqi entered a temporary accommodation arranged for him within the Shelter.

Nan Ma apologized, "There are quite a few of you, so we can only arrange it like this for now. The Shelter never anticipated hosting any guests. During more critical times, we even had to constantly abandon some residents to keep the Shelter operational."

Bai Zhongqi leaned against the door, looking at the small, cramped room resembling a tube-shaped dormitory. This was actually Nan Ma's home. As one of the more influential people in the Shelter, he had a private room and had always lived there alone. The room, only five square meters in size, hardly allowed for walking, let alone being tidy.

Nan Ma had given up his room to squeeze in with other members of the Hunting Group. Most residents of the Shelter did not have personal space; even those who had families shared a dormitory with others. A typical room was three to four square meters, fitted with three bunk beds, although usually seven or eight people slept there.

The residential area of the Shelter was filled with human odor, various stenches, food smells, and chemical odors, making it hard to adjust.

"Alright, this will do," Bai Zhongqi genuinely didn't mind. He wasn't actually staying here himself, and his Autochthonous Warriors could simply lie down, disconnect, and he could rest comfortably in the captain's bed on the Sacred Falcon. If needed, he could even have a massage, though he never really needed it.

However, Nan Ma was quite unsatisfied with the environment. Touching his bald head, he remarked, "If I have to squeeze in with these guys and sleep on such a moldy bed, I'd rather start a revolt in this Shelter and then overthrow their ruling class to sleep in their beds."

Lastly, he added, "Maybe even sleep with their women."

Bai Zhongqi chuckled and gave him a pat, saying, "You could sleep suspended in mid-air."

"Forget it, it's only for a few days. Sleeping or not doesn't really matter," Nan Ma replied nonchalantly. With his physique, going without sleep for a week wasn't much of an issue.

At that time, several people heard a commotion coming from the end of the dormitory corridor, and Ban unexpectedly ran over without calling out.

Bai Zhongqi asked, "What happened?"

Bu looked in that direction and said, "It must be the mayor's daughter coming to the civilian area to teach the children."

Nan Ma, interested, smiled and said, "Chancellor, let's go have a look."

The group followed Bu to an open space in the dormitory area and saw a young girl in a white dress. She sat on a low stool, her legs demurely together, looking every bit the lady. She wore a maid's hat adorned with a light veil, her appearance delicately beautiful and her demeanor serene, forming a stark contrast with the chaotic surroundings.

Bai Zhongqi saw that Ban was also sitting cross-legged on the ground, holding a dirty little notebook and a short stub of a pencil, his face full of longing and admiration as he gazed at the girl in front of him.

Bu explained to Bai Zhongqi, "Her name is Ti, the shelter mayor's most cherished daughter and the most beautiful girl in the shelter. She is kind-hearted and gentle. Almost every young man in the shelter, including my nephew, wants to marry her."

Ban sat on the ground, pretending not to hear his uncle's words, but his face had already turned red.

Then, Nan Ma made a scene-killing remark, "If you can't sleep with the ruler's woman, sleeping with his daughter isn't bad either." Explore more at My Virtual Library Empire

Bai Zhongqi wasn't interested in entertaining Nan Ma, who had nothing serious to say. Ti indeed was a beautiful girl, but Bai Zhongqi had seen many beautiful girls and was emotionally committed to someone else, so he felt little interest in other girls.

Ti picked up a small whiteboard from her feet and started to explain characters to the children in the civilian area. Her voice was soft and faint, and listening to her was inexplicably comforting.

On the small square, dozens of children gathered, listening intently as Ti spoke about the characters of Torosan.

Not particularly interested in the girl's beauty, Bai Zhongqi, however, found the situation of the shelter intriguing. He asked Bu, "Does your shelter not have schools?"

Bu shook his head and said, "Our shelter now has over three thousand people, most of whom are able-bodied adults needed for various jobs. It's quite difficult to spare anyone to teach the children. Only someone like Miss Ti, who has no other engagements and a good heart, is willing to teach the children to read. Other than the children of the privileged families, few common folks' children can read."

Slightly moved by the scene, Hu communicated telepathically with Bai Zhongqi, "A country once powerful and civilized has now turned to such barbarity, it is sad and lamentable. Chancellor, perhaps only by bringing the civilization of Iridium Star and Earth to this planet and driving away the surface's monsters can the people here return to a normal life."

Bai Zhongqi turned his head and probed, "And if I were to do that, what would you do?"

"When Taoran Star becomes a part of the Star Alliance, naturally, I will assist you wholeheartedly and guard the Star Alliance," he replied.
