Chapter 442: 433 The Great Transformation of Two Stars
This incident can be said to have started because of Bai Zhongqi's slip of hand, and came to a conclusion through a series of combined punches by Bai Zhongqi. The Star Alliance government seemed not to have played much of a role, but from another perspective, the adverse effect of the Star Alliance government might have been even greater.
The Compulsory Conscription Law introduced by the Star Alliance government and the Universe Army Command ignited panic among some non-employed groups, causing them to join the ranks of the opposition. The Star Alliance government's handling of demonstrations around the world was even more inappropriate, or rather, at that time, both Du Peng and Xiao Yu were more concerned with arranging which new planets had been developed by the Star Alliance and how much the resource supply of the Star Alliance had increased by certain percentage points.
The position of Earthlings within the Star Alliance is extremely special. They are both the main body of the Star Alliance, but appear to have little to do with the actual operations of the Star Alliance. Earthlings are not so keen on the exploration of the starry seas, they are supplied by the Star Alliance, yet they lack a comprehensive and unified strategic mindset.
The government of the Star Alliance, composed of elites from Iridium Star and Earth, is traditionally said to be disconnected from the masses and does not reflect the real needs of the masses. The contradiction lies in the fact that Earthlings do not know what would be better for their future. They might have entered the new age from the old with material preparations in place, but their thinking and objectives are disjointed.
But Earthlings would eventually have to pay the price for their arrogance.
One morning, completely unforeseen by Bai Zhongqi, the governments of the Administrative Stars of Lieque Star and Emerald Sea Star, which were overseen by the Silver Feather Army and composed of naturalized citizens from Emerald Sea Star respectively, issued statements one after another— Lieque Star and Emerald Sea Star announced their withdrawal from the Star Alliance, refusing to submit to the direct jurisdiction of the Star Alliance government, and declared themselves as territories under the Chancellor, with their respective Administrative Star governments directly obeying the Chancellor's will.
This situation was even beyond Bai Zhongqi's expectation.
The Silver Feather Army had always viewed the Iridium Star people who had driven them away with displeasure, and after joining the Star Alliance, had been consistently dissatisfied with the performance of the Star Alliance. Following the global anti-Star Alliance, anti-Chancellor movements on Earth, the Silver Feather Army was especially contemptuous of Earthlings for their lack of faith and Chancellor worship, to the extent that they unanimously decided to withdraw Lieque Star from the Star Alliance, declare independence, and be governed directly by the Chancellor, no longer dealing with the Star Alliance folks.
On the side of Emerald Sea Star, they followed Lieque Star's example after witnessing its independence. Initially, the government of the Administrative Star of Emerald Sea Star was managed by people from Iridium Star. After Xiao Yu was appointed from Governor to Commander of the Universe Army, Bai Zhongqi promoted a group of naturalized locals and Earth immigrants as officials of the Administrative Star. Emerald Sea Star people had a strong sense of imperial authority, and Bai Zhongqi's displayed power and leadership over the Stellar Transmission Academy naturally placed him in the highest esteem in the minds of people from Emerald Sea Star.
Immediately following Lieque Star's independence, Emerald Sea Star made a swift decision to also declare independence, thus they too issued a declaration almost identical to the one from the Silver Feather Army.
However, despite their bold declarations of independence, neither of the two Administrative Stars took any steps to sever ties with the Star Alliance. They continued to use the Star Alliance Currency, citizen cards remained in use, and none of their members serving in the Universe Army were recalled.
At this time, some clever Earthlings discovered a fact—whether the Star Alliance existed seemed to make no significant difference, because as long as Chancellor Bai Zhongqi existed, the massive machinery civilization he controlled was operational and could serve the population under his control. Therefore, whether it was called Star Alliance, United Empire of Iridium Star, Emerald Sea, or Lieque Independent Regime, the names made no difference to them.
An independent self-media commentator even exclaimed in their article that day, "...the people on Earth, having spurned imperial authority and autocrats for hundreds of years, still acted like ostriches with their heads buried in the sand when the Star Alliance was founded, pretending not to see the giant whose enormous figure overshadowed the entire sky and even the Universe, believing that our lives haven't changed, and that everyone was simply living with more advanced technology. But the giant has long been among us, and we have never been as clearly aware as we are today that the so-called Star Alliance is nothing but the Chancellor's Empire. The United Empire of Iridium Star and the Star Alliance are merely products with different names used by the Chancellor. Everything we have today is thanks to him, and it is his decisions that will lead us in different directions, whether we like it or not. Our lives will be closely tied to this man, if he can still be called human."
Bai Zhongqi squatted in the Wu Ya Palace, watching the media person's speech on his phone receive millions of likes. At the top of the screen popped up messages from the Star Alliance government requesting an audience, which Bai Zhongqi continuously ignored.
"Your Majesty, are you really not going to meet with Prime Minister Du Peng?" Ling asked, somewhat anxiously.
Bai Zhongqi's expression sagged slightly, and he lifted his arm, saying, "Let's not meet yet. I haven't figured this out for myself."
Ling pursed her lips and said, "The Silver Feather Army and the people from Emerald Sea Star, really, such an important matter, and they didn't report it in advance. It's quite impolite."
Bai Zhongqi adjusted his posture, sitting comfortably on the ground. He looked up to see the azure sky of the South Sea through the transparent ceiling.
"I'm thinking, have I been doing everything wrong all along? Is the Star Alliance just a mistake?"
Ling sighed, "As a subordinate, it's not my place to judge your actions. But I believe everything you do has significance. Those people also aren't wrong; you are the supreme Chancellor. Whether or not you want others to notice you, or whether or not they're willing to recognize it, your power exists. Whether it's called Star Alliance, or whether people salute you, doesn't make much of a difference, does it?"
Bai Zhongqi appeared not to be troubled but instead looked like a big child, lying on the ground with his head in his hands, looking up at the sky, his expression peaceful.
"That's right, what does right or wrong matter? I have to shoulder all these things."
Ling felt an inexplicable sorrow, moving to his side, somewhat wanting to hold his hand. Her hand moved but stopped short of touching Bai Zhongqi.
"Your Majesty, in this Universe, where are there so many responsibilities? An elephant wouldn't bear the responsibility of protecting the ants whose Ant Hole was washed away by the rain, and neither should you. You can't keep imposing these responsibilities on yourself because you have the capacity to do so. From my perspective, at such a level, there's only the difference between what you want and what you do. Responsibility is just a word used by the weak to bind the strong to protect themselves."
What do you think?
