Chapter 449 449: Invasion 440 (Part 5)
Xu Lanzhou watched Han Jiaxue board the warship and breathed a sigh of relief. Han Jiaxue was dressed in a female diplomat's uniform, with a knee-length skirt showcasing her black-clad legs. Xu Lanzhou couldn't help but to compare her own legs and thought to herself, "Does the Chancellor prefer the type of legs that Han Jiaxue has?"
She felt ashamed for thinking such a thing and shook her head slightly before stepping forward to greet Han Jiaxue, "Miss Han, welcome aboard."
With a reserved and friendly smile, Han Jiaxue responded to Xu Lanzhou, "Thank you for your trouble, General Xu."
Watching Han Jiaxue's poised and charming smile, Xu Lanzhou inevitably felt a trace of jealousy. She didn't think she was any less than Han Jiaxue, but Han Jiaxue was the Chancellor's woman, whereas Xu Lanzhou was merely the Chancellor's knight, who could at most fantasize about being held in the Chancellor's arms when dreaming at midnight.
She knew that now was not the time for girls to compete in stature and said to Han Jiaxue, "We have prepared a place for you to rest on the ship, unfortunately, we cannot send you back to Earth. The enemy's momentum is fierce, and the Universe Army and Silver Feather Army are rapidly assembling to better respond to the enemy. This is a battle we cannot afford to lose."
With some concern, Han Jiaxue asked, "How are things on Earth?"
Xu Lanzhou's face tightened, and she shook her head, "The situation is not good. Over three hundred million Controllers have arrived on Earth, and His Majesty has already urgently declared Shelter, but still, many people are unable to find refuge quickly. Now, Commander Xiao is leading all the armed forces on Earth to counterattack the Controllers."
She actually had more to tell Han Jiaxue which she hadn't yet—the recent news that four Defense Forces had not stopped the Controllers from advancing and had their cities occupied. These powerful energy-based lives, once they occupied a city, would rapidly turn all intelligent life within the city into their puppets or kill them outright.
Fortunately, the Controllers were concentrated in their assaults rather than scattered across the world. Their main targets included densely populated major cities and military bases because people and weapons could be controlled by them, ultimately transformed into tools for the invasion of Earth.
Even Bai Zhongqi was shocked beyond measure. Four brigade-scale Defense Forces, despite their firm resistance and having inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, had still been defeated. Nearly thirty thousand troops from these four armies were completely annihilated, and as they fell, four global cities with populations exceeding one million each were breached by the Controllers. Except for a few who hid in Shelters, most of the people perished.
At this moment, Bai Zhongqi's heart was in intense agony, as if being stabbed repeatedly in the heart. Humanity had not known such a horrific loss of life for a long time. In just a few hours, millions had been killed; even though most of their bodies might still be alive, their minds and wills had been obliterated, turned into puppets.
Chancellor Bai Zhongqi slammed his hand down hard on the table, his sheer force breaking the wooden masterpiece in two.
"Damn it all!" Bai Zhongqi yelled hysterically, venting his frustrations.
The Controllers were an enemy he had never faced before. They moved undetected and were immune to physical attacks. Their numbers were immense, and they excelled in dividing and conquering. Despite the vast war power at their disposal, neither the Sacred Falcon nor the Homeland Titan could wipe out all the Controllers in one strike. They spread like a virus, rampaging through the healthy body of Earth. And the Earthlings, like healthy cells, were infected, slaughtered, and eventually converted into one of them.
Zero saw Bai Zhongqi's dilemma and distress and felt deeply for him. She encouraged him, "Your Majesty, don't be like this. We haven't lost yet. Although we were a bit slow to react, now most of our civilians have been moved to underground shelters, and the residents near the aerospaces have already taken spaceships away from the surface of the Earth."
Bai Zhongqi sighed, knowing this was just Zero trying to comfort him. The Controllers couldn't escape Earth's gravity to fly into the sky, but they could control people to do so. Therefore, at the first sign, Bai Zhongqi had ordered all spacecrafts nearby to evacuate everyone they could.
But this number wasn't large. Although there were many spacecrafts on Earth, the Controllers' sudden assaults on facilities like aerospaces were severe.
Bai Zhongqi had no choice but to launch the spacecrafts first to avoid the risk of being controlled by the Controllers, ordering them to stand by at the Ruyi City aerospace, and had many military jets and atmospheric warships take off to patrol and provide fire support for the ground defense forces. The troubling part for him was that not all military vehicles' weapons were useable—only energy weapons had any effect.
In these moments, Zero still tried to stay optimistic. She said, "Facing us, the Controllers surely met a different kind of opponent. Under normal circumstances, after they have occupied millions of bodies, even cities and industrial facilities, they could instantly start producing weapons and arm these puppets into an army to turn around and attack us. But most Earthlings don't have complete knowledge of Iridium Star technology, and all industrial production equipment is controlled by the Supreme Command. Even if they wanted to use it, they couldn't get it started. The same goes for some large military weapons, even light weapons they couldn't trigger."
Bai Zhongqi nodded; Zero's analysis had some merit. It was hard to imagine how passive other civilizations were when facing the Controllers. These pervasive energy-based life forms could immediately cause a massive loss of industrial capacity and population, which the Controllers could then convert into their war potential. The Controllers then grew stronger with each battle, while the invaded grew weaker.
But Star Alliance's Iridium Star civilization on Earth was essentially built on Bai Zhongqi's Supreme Command; the real talent with substantial knowledge was mostly in various research institutes, whereas the average Earthling was disconnected from the civilization's technology. This also gave the Controllers a headache. Although they were very powerful and had instantly crushed several Earth Defense Forces and taken over Earth's cities, they found that the people they controlled could not even use advanced rifles and had to resort to fighting with bricks and sticks.
The most worrying scenario for the Controllers was that once the enhancement from the Eternal Crystal Stone expired on their abilities, they would no longer be able to attack or reproduce indefinitely. At that time, without having achieved overwhelming superiority, the Controllers might actually face defeat on the battlefields of Earth.
What do you think?
