Chapter 450 450: Invasion (Part 6)
The Controllers, in strategizing today's grand game, understood a simple truth: they did not need to triumph on both fronts, they only needed to emerge victorious on one battlefield. Even if the three hundred million Controllers on Earth were all slain by the Star Alliance, as long as the joint fleet of the three great enslavers won and occupied Taoran Star, with an abundant supply of Eternal Crystal Stones, the Controllers could easily obliterate the Star Alliance.
As for Earth, if it were destroyed, that needless to say would also spell the end for the Star Alliance.
In the Xunyi Star Zone of the Guiyun Star Domain, a vast number of Warp Bubbles mysteriously emerged from the inner layers of space, entering the material world's surface layer. One after another, huge spaceships and warships exited the Warp Bubbles in numbers enough to drive anyone with claustrophobia mad, filling the starry sky in a brief span of time.
Adorned in a magnificent gold-trimmed red robe, his eyes radiating brilliant light, the Benefactor held a scepter topped with a red gem—this was the ruler of the Benefactor civilization, Dacien. The title of Dacien was hereditary, passed down from one generation to the next. When the life of a Dacien neared its end, he would hand over the scepter of Dacien to his personally chosen successor. The Benefactors had always maintained this system of abdication; traditionally, the most outstanding Benefactor of each generation would be selected as a candidate for Dacien, then chosen by the Council of Elders and the current Dacien himself.
The current Dacien, young and strong, had only held the title for less than a decade. Nevertheless, the social structure of the Benefactors was extremely stable. Although they were arrogant and held themselves in high regard, every Benefactor accepted their societal status, and there had never been any rebellion or power grab. Thus, the Benefactors continued to exist in this orderly fashion.
Dacien looked solemnly at the screen and spoke to the disgustingly lizard-faced individual, "Great Emperor of Teizene, you forcefully demand that the fleet come to this galaxy far from our intended battlefield of Taoran Star. Even if the Controllers appointed you as the fleet's supreme Commander, I still have the right to question you!"
The lizard person with half-closed eyes, looking somewhat disinterested, hissed lightly—an utterance roughly equivalent to the human expression 'oh'.
He was the Great Emperor of Teizene, the sole ruler who controlled the Teizene Empire. Unlike a ruler like Dacien, who was still subject to the Senate's influence, in the Teizene Empire, every word of the Great Emperor was a command that must be executed.
The Great Emperor of Teizene, of course, understood why the Controllers had appointed him as the commander of the grand fleet. This was because the Teizene's military discipline was simply not comparable to the Benefactors, who were all bluster and no substance. The technology inherited from a lost civilization by the Benefactors was not their own achievement, and their civilization level had slipped to level 24, never again breaking through to a high-level civilization. Moreover, in combat, nine times out of ten, the Benefactors relied on their vassal races, and when actual Benefactors went to battle, they often exhibited cowardice and insubordination.
Such a civilization was looked down upon by the Great Emperor of Teizene, and even the Controllers were fully aware of the Benefactors' true colors, knowing well that the Benefactors were good at winning with the tide but, following along to collect the heads, could not possibly be appointed as leaders of one side.
The Great Emperor of Teizene said slowly, "The security of Taoran Star is of great importance. Our actions here are fundamentally to seize this planet. But if we are not cautious enough, even if we defeat the Earthlings, we might accidently cause severe damage to Taoran Star during the battle, or even completely destroy the planet, then the Controllers, when they investigate, will find a responsibility that neither you nor I can bear."
Dacien was taken aback, that indeed was something he had not considered.
"So what exactly do you want to do by coming to this worthless galaxy?"
The Great Emperor of Teizene, hands grasping the throne's armrests, exuded endless majesty, "To probe the Earthlings. The military technology of the Star Alliance is not only above that of the Teizene civilization but also above yours. Although the Controllers also dispatched a fleet captured from the Maquivina Civilization to accompany us, I cannot guarantee that we could gain a technological advantage in battle."
Dacien scoffed with disdain, "To actually lack such confidence – when did you Teizene people also become a bunch of cowards?"
The Great Emperor of Teizene was not angered and said dispassionately, "Those who avoid battle are cowards, but those who smartly choose which battles to avoid are strategists."
He continued to lay out the strategy for the joint fleet of the three great enslavers to Dacien, "We have a total of 12,000 warships, comprised of the cream of the Teizene and Benefactor's combat prowess. We cannot currently determine how many spaceships the Earthlings have, but even by the worst estimates, they possess over three thousand ships, and the quality is better than ours."
Dacien wanted to argue that their own ships were more formidable, but he knew that arguing this point now was not very meaningful, so he simply shut his mouth.
"We have more ships, while the Star Alliance has fewer. This gives us a greater advantage in terms of maneuverability. The entire star sector is now under the Star Alliance's control – Lingge Star, Gigite Star – these are places we Teizene have competed over with the Star Alliance, and are now also their defensive locations. I intend to dispatch small squadrons to harass these planets to see if we can mobilize the Star Alliance's fleets. If we can, then their main fleet will be weakened by such divisions," said the Great Emperor of Teizene.
Dacien sneered, "So you'll be able to face a comparatively weaker main fleet of the Star Alliance? But you still haven't found a way to prevent them from blowing up Taoran Star."
"Indeed, but that is a method they resort to only when they are quite desperate. For now, we stay in this position, probing to lure their main battle fleet into seeking a battle with us. If they really just hole up on Taoran Star and don't come out, then we'll have to resort to some extreme measures."
"What extreme measures?"
The Great Emperor of Teizene tilted his lizard mouth, smiling, "That's not something you need to worry about."
At this moment, Grand Mercy could find no fault either. Over the years, the Benefactors had not fought any major or tough wars, so they were somewhat cautious in military affairs. Grand Mercy wasn't a fool, didn't exhibit excessive pride, and they were very clear about the level of the opponent they faced in the Star Alliance. The three, who enslaved thousands upon thousands of allied fleet vessels, had yet to make a rash judgement that they would surely win.
Having terminated the video call, the Great Emperor of Teizene lay in his throne, pondering slightly.
"Ultimately, is there any benefit in helping the Controllers win this war?" the Great Emperor of Teizene mused in silence.
This ruler, celebrated within the Teizene Empire for his enlightened and martial virtues, appeared different in his contemplation compared to the ordinary cold and restless Teizene lizard people; he was composed and quiet, as if filled with endless wisdom.
The Controllers, much like the Star Alliance, were no good characters. The Teizene had already seen that, and the story of how, generations ago, the Great Emperor of Teizene had allied with the Controllers and the Benefactors wasn't so clear anymore. In fact, there wasn't much frequent interaction between the three civilizations: no trade, no technology exchanges, no cultural exchanges, and even in warfare, they fought alone. Perhaps they feared their allies might steal their benefits.
In such a war, the Great Emperor of Teizene should have considered the problem of an unequal division of spoils, but he hadn't mentioned this to the Controllers.
It was at the last moment that he opened up to the Controllers, leaking the coordinates of Earth. He had to do so because the Controllers, with a mere gesture, had lain low a high-level civilization, and their mode of battle was nearly unbreakable for Teizene civilization. After mastering cross-space transmission, the degree of threat posed by the Controllers had reached a level that even the Galactic High Governance Council was wary of, and it was something Teizene couldn't resist.
Once the Controllers truly seized Taoran Star, they would have a plentiful supply of Eternal Crystal Stone, allowing them to continuously plunder the achievements of high-level civilizations, occupy their bodies, and steal their culture. If this process continued, the Controllers would indeed control the Galaxy, as their name implied.
The Great Emperor of Teizene couldn't be sure whether there would come a time when the Controllers would continue to preserve the Teizene civilization and their own, or extract their spirits too, turning them into puppets.
But if the Controllers were defeated in this war against the Star Alliance, then the Star Alliance and Teizene civilization also had deep-seated hatred. Teizene had suffered repeated defeats at the hands of the Star Alliance, losing millions of soldiers and thousands of warships, heavily depleting their strength. Not to mention, if Teizene were to attack the Star Alliance, the Star Alliance would have no good feelings towards Teizene. Almost certainly, after the Star Alliance had secured its footing, they would gradually undertake the conquest of Teizene, eventually annihilating them.
The Great Emperor of Teizene saw very clearly, that the Star Alliance, a weakened version of a high-level civilization, also had a strong tendency to expand, and the Star Alliance's Chancellor would certainly not easily let Teizene go.
"Perhaps, I am Teizene's greatest sinner; could it really be that Teizene will be destroyed by my hand?" the Great Emperor of Teizene questioned himself.
"Hmph, no matter what, the brave Teizene will never flee before the battle; even if we walk along a dark and lightless path, Teizene will stand and bleed to death. To strike terror in the heart of the enemy, to taste the flesh of the enemy imbued with fear, that is the true nature of Teizene."
The Great Emperor of Teizene firmed his resolve and rose abruptly from his throne.
"Let's see if this enemy, the Star Alliance, will allow us Teizene a battle to our heart's content."
Such a tragic fighting spirit had already permeated the entire Teizene Fleet. In name, Teizene could gain the much-coveted Danlu Interstellar Cloud after victory in this war,, but the importance of the Interstellar Cloud had greatly diminished. Teizene, doomed to a tragic fate regardless, had at this moment aroused their greatest desire to fight—a mortal combat with the Star Alliance.
What do you think?
