Chapter 666: 652 Free Heart

Bai Zhongqi eventually resorted to a little hypnosis trick on the unfortunate girl addicted to drama. The TV series they were watching was an urban suspense detective drama filled with plot twists and captivating turns. Since the television drama industry in the Eastern Land was not well-developed and the techniques were quite dated, it was natural for Zhang Yingxi to become addicted the first time she saw such a series.

In her dreams, Zhang Yingxi felt that Bai Zhongqi was like a Santa Claus full of surprises; every minute spent with him seemed very interesting. In stark contrast was her real life, where her father Zhang Shixiong wanted her to be a lady, subjecting her to various forms of education and training, sending her to a noble girls' school, yet she was deprived of her freedom and had never made any friends on her own.

Even though Bai Zhongqi harbored an indescribable fondness for Zhang Yingxi, it was more due to her nature than romantic affection. Now that his own daughter was of age, the more restrained Bai Zhongqi dared not act recklessly.

He didn't sleep in Zhang Yingxi's bed or even in her room. He took out his Homeland Stone and started a new operation.

As one of the most valuable gems in the Crimson God Stone, the Homeland Stone had a considerable effect. It could create a land area of several hundred thousand square kilometers and also possessed the ability for civilization editing. Bai Zhongqi had previously used it to directly generate all the cities on Spratly Island, as well as constructing a large amount of industrial equipment and Bionic Humans.

Once the Homeland Stone was expanded into a tract of land, it could no longer be used for civilization editing. However, Bai Zhongqi found a workaround by not expanding the stone but editing the world within the Homeland Stone and then bringing objects out. This process was much more complicated and required the use of Star Energy as a price.

In reality, he couldn't expand the Homeland Stone at the moment anyway, as it couldn't adapt to this illusory world. Bai Zhongqi had tried a few experiments, but they ended in failure.

"It's no matter, at least I can sleep inside the Homeland Stone, in the room I fashioned myself."

Bai Zhongqi quickly inputted Star Energy into the Homeland Stone and began editing the world within. The land of the Homeland Stone was still in the shape of Spratly Island, and Bai Zhongqi was too lazy to change it. He turned operating the Homeland Stone into a "sim city" game, began constructing skyscrapers and manufacturing Bionic Humans.

Although he couldn't bring out many things due to their technical complexity, at least the city within the Homeland Stone wouldn't be too lonely.

There was an upper limit to civilization editing. For instance, if Bai Zhongqi requested the creation of a Blade Empress warship, that would immediately reach the editing limit. Creating a complete Iridium Star supercity with dozens of warships was likely also unfeasible. But he could create quite a few items from Primitive Civilizations.

With the mindset of saving his civilization editing ability, Bai Zhongqi created a city that was only ten square kilometers, with a significant portion being Atomic Substance Construction factories, to produce the things he planned to take to the Azure Planet world.

Originally, there was no such thing as an internal world within the Homeland Stone; it had to be unfolded. Bai Zhongqi created the current inner world of the Homeland Stone by referencing the structure of the Glass Bead. The sun inside the world of the Homeland Stone was real; Bai Zhongqi had indeed stuffed a stellar object in there for energy, filling in the losses the Homeland Stone had previously suffered with a lot of material resources.

After changing into his pajamas, Bai Zhongqi, yawning, lay down on the warm bed and cheekily muttered to himself, "It's been a long time since I slept on my own."

He chuckled twice, then turned over and fell asleep.

In the early morning, when Zhang Yingxi was woken up by the family's servants, Bai Zhongqi was nowhere to be seen. She had slept too late the night before, so she wasn't feeling her best today.

"Huh, what's this?" Zhang Yingxi picked up a stone from the bed that looked like a pebble, feeling warm in her hand as if it contained Bai Zhongqi's body heat.

"Is this something he gave to me?" Zhang Yingxi gasped in surprise. Even though it was just a pebble that seemed to have no use, she still held it carefully and giggled foolishly.

The maid next to her found the young lady's behavior very strange and reminded her, "Miss, the master has been waiting for you to dine. Please hurry."

Zhang Yingxi stuck out her tongue in embarrassment and replied, "I know."

The rules of the Zhang family were particularly strict, and Zhang Shixiong was especially stern in disciplining his children. Zhang Yingxi never had the chance to sleep in; she always got up on time. Today, she was so sleepy that she had to be woken by the servants.

Upon arriving at the family dining room, Zhang Yingxi was, unsurprisingly, scolded by her father.

"Look at yourself, do you not have a shred of ladylike grace? You're so grown up, and yet you're still sleeping in. If you were married off, who knows how much disgrace you could bring upon the Zhang family."

Before her father, Zhang Yingxi became much more obedient. She bowed her head in a gesture of admitting her mistake and didn't dare to act coquettishly towards her father.

Zhang Shixiong sighed and said, "Throughout Li'an Prefecture, Qing State, and even up to the Capital, everyone knows that my daughter, Zhang Shixiong's daughter, is exquisitely beautiful. The more so, the less I dare to relax your upbringing. Everyone says Zhang Shixiong is an ignoramus, but not my children. Your eldest brother is a professor at the National Capital University, your second brother is a well-known lawyer in Songjiang Prefecture, and even your youngest brother is famous throughout Qing State as a child prodigy. As your father, I hope you will uphold the virtues of a woman and learn more, so that in the future you can have status and achievement in your husband's home."

Zhang Yingxi responded softly, "I understand, Father."

Zhang Shixiong nodded, "Eat."

Zhang Yingxi moved her bowl and chopsticks with grace and impeccable manners. Inside, though, her mind was already racing with different thoughts. She understood her father's intentions all too well; due to her beauty, he wanted to treat her as a commodity, to be sold for the right price, with a political marriage being the most likely outcome.

In the past, Zhang Yingxi might have resigned herself to her fate, unable to escape her father's arrangements or her destiny. But since yesterday, when she picked up a mysterious foreigner in her room who seemed capable of anything and whose life was full of intrigue, Zhang Yingxi couldn't help but feel her spirits lift.

She wanted to leave such a life behind and become a free person, to eat tofu pudding on the street, to stay up late watching TV dramas.

Most importantly, to spend a lifetime with someone she liked, rather than marrying someone she didn't know and didn't care for.

As she was lost in thought, Zhang Shixiong suddenly said, "After the meal, accompany your father on a plane to White Island. I want to introduce you to a few talented young men."

Zhang Yingxi was surprised and asked, "White Island? Isn't that the Qikun people's concession? Is father going to meet with the Qikun, who are now preparing to invade our country?"

Zhang Shixiong reprimanded, "A girl's place is not to speak of things she doesn't understand!"

Zhang Yingxi was very disappointed in her father. Right now, she very much wanted to consult with Bai Zhongqi—even though Bai Zhongqi was someone she had just met yesterday.
