Chapter 33 - Demon Slaying
Once, he couldn’t keep up with Lin Qingyue. But with the system, everything changed.
Still…
“Why chase her?”
Su Yan blinked, landing on an easy answer.
He craved a peaceful life with a gentle, virtuous wife. In this world, who fit better than Lin Qingyue?
“I know her inside out. All her characters. If no one better shows up, maybe it’s her.”
She’d die of joy if she knew his thoughts.
“Hearing you say that puts me at ease.”
Lin Qingyue smiled.
…
Her days filled up fast—sword drills and spells by day, spiritual power tempering at night. Progress zoomed.
Seeing her grind, Su Yan figured it was time. He took her to the Artifact Hall.
Every Yi Xian Sect newbie got bonus. A monthly fasting pills, a few spirit stones.
As a Tian Shui Peak disciple, Lin Qingyue scored more: extra pill types and a mid-grade artifact.
“Junior Sister, sure you don’t want my gift?”
Su Yan asked again.
With Dragon King Water Spray in pocket, his spiritual weapon felt less vital. Seeing her lack a decent one, he offered the silver needle.
She shook her head. “It’s too precious. Keep it, Senior Brother.”
She appreciated it but couldn’t take it. The needle screamed “guy gear”—a girl wielding it would draw laughs.
“If you’re set on that…”
He dropped it. She looked soft but had her own mind on something he admired.
“You get it, Senior Brother.”
…
A month passed by.
Lin Qingyue’s crazy talent showed again. She was about to reach the next level.
“She’s almost at Foundation Establishment in under two months. That’s way too fast. I need to catch up.”
Her fast progress made Su Yan feel pressure.
He knew she’d pass him one day, but as her senior, being left behind so quickly felt bad.
“Maybe I should try slowing her down a little.”
He decided to work harder.
The system was the fastest way to level up, but it was too random. Without a clear “breakthrough” option, he couldn’t just wait around.
“No talent? Fine! I’ll take pills. Or better, I’ll learn alchemy. If the system boosts it, I’m golden.”
He knew skill points were strong—he’d seen it. Even weak skills became amazing when upgraded. If he got alchemy as a skill, he could turn it into something powerful.
“But first, I need the system to recognize it.”
He looked at his four skills and chose to go pick herbs. Maybe cooking something would make “Alchemy” show up.
So, he left Tian Shui Peak and went to the sect’s back mountains.
It was a forest full of spiritual energy, with lots of low-level herbs that is just right for him.
With a basket in hand, he searched the area.
“Found one… and another…”
He picked herbs happily and soon filled the basket.
After stretching, ready to head back, he suddenly stopped.
He held his breath, eyes narrowing.
He smelled blood in the air and felt spiritual energy nearby.
“What’s going on over there?”
Curious, he masked his presence and crept toward the source.
Soon, he found it: a fox scrapping with a tiger.
“That tiger’s quick—tiger demon, huh? The fox ain’t normal either.”
Squinting, he pegged them at Late Qi Refining—chumps to him.
No need to hold back.
He stepped from the bushes.
The tiger demon, poised for a killing blow on the fox, spotted him. It bristled, snarling, “Where’d this two-leg come from, barging into my turf?!”
Your turf?
Su Yan eyed it like an idiot.
This was Yi Xian Sect’s back yard—who’d dare claim it?
“Freshly sentient, brain still mush.”
He shook his head. The sect kept this place wild for vibe—disciples roamed here often. Demons were risks to newbies.
“Since I’m here, might as well clean you up.”
He waved and a water jet shot out.
The tiger demon roared with laughter. “Heh, thought you had tricks—just a splash? Hilarious!”
It cackled, kept cackling, then….
Splat!
Brains sprayed, tiger teeth hit dirt, limbs twitching.
“Total small fry—how’d it not get the memo?”
Su Yan sighed. Its stupidity blew his mind. No dodge at all.
Demon down, he glanced at the bushes. Under green spirit plants, a golden speck stood out.
Up close, it was a small fox—sleek fur matted with blood, badly hurt.
It cracked weak eyes, saw him, and blue irises lit up.
What a gorgeous human!
Mama fox said looks mirrored heart—pretty meant kind. Meeting him? She’d live today.
Ears twitching, it chirped, “Chirp chirp!”
Save me, teach me—I’ll repay you!
Su Yan reached out. The fox shyly shut its eyes. Rescue and healing, right? Lucky day!
But…
A hand gripped fate’s neck. Pinched by the scruff, it dangled midair.
“Chirp chirp chirp! Chirp chirp??”
Legs flailed, eyes baffled. It was injured—this hurt!
“Heh.”
Su Yan chuckled, getting why demons lost to humans. IQ gap.
“Tiger’s a dope who didn’t dodge. You’re just as bad. Dumb fox!”
What!?
The fox blanked, stunned. Wasn’t he her savior?
What do you think?
