Chapter 34 - The Fox’s Gratitude
Su Yan had no idea what the little fox was thinking. He was just wondering what to do with it.
“I heard demon beast meat is full of nutrients. Junior Sister is still skinny, maybe if I cook this fox, it’ll help her grow stronger.”
He looked at the fox like it was dinner.
“Hmm… steamed fox, stir-fried fox, braised fox, spicy fox… Junior Sister loves spicy food…”
He started listing dishes out loud.
The fox, which had just been dizzy, froze—then suddenly started waving its paws like crazy.
“Haha, stop moving. You can’t run.”
Su Yan smiled.
Then—chomp! The fox bit his hand, jumped free while he was distracted, and dashed off.
“???”
Su Yan stared, confused. That twisty move? Super creepy.
“Oh yeah… it’s not a normal fox. It’s a demon beast.”
“You’re not getting away!”
He shouted and ran after it.
The fox ran fast, like golden lightning across the field.
But Su Yan used spiritual power and, thanks to his long legs, quickly caught up.
“Still trying to run?”
He grinned and slid through the grass, kicking up dirt.
“Chirp chirp chirp!”
The fox flew into the air, spinning, then crashed head first.
“Chirp chirp chirp…”
So dizzy!
It stood up slowly, wobbling like it was drunk.
Su Yan walked over. The fox didn’t even notice him until he grabbed its tail.
“Trying to escape again, huh!”
He teased. Water flowed from his fingers and wrapped around the fox like ropes.
“You’re dinner tonight, no more running. Just stay still and let me eat you.”
The fox struggled hard, but couldn’t break free. Then it looked up with big teary blue eyes.
Was it trying to look cute now?
Su Yan was surprised, but he wasn’t the soft type. He didn’t fall for that.
“Should I steam you or braise you? Or maybe cook you in a hot pot?”
As he thought about how to cook it, the system suddenly spoke up.
[Option 1: Steamed’s best—fresh and tasty. Whip Junior Sister up a wild game feast. (Reward: High-Grade Spiritual Weapon, Demon-Slaying Ring)]
[Option 2: Braised rules—fat but not greasy, melts in your mouth. What’re you waiting for? (Reward: Rank-5 Spirit-Boosting Pill)]
[Option 3: Foxes are cute—why eat it? Heal its wounds and let it go. (Reward: Spiritual Power +3)]
“Huh?”
Su Yan blanked. Demon beasts triggered quests? First time for everything. But these options and rewards were wild.
“Eat it and score big?”
He frowned. Something’s off. It's too easy, too good.
“Hey, got a big shot backing you?”
He poked the fox.
“Chirp?”
It tilted its head. Backing?
“Spill it, or I’m eating you.”
“Chirp chirp chirp!!”
Panic hit—it begged, pleading pitifully.
Don’t eat me! My mom’s fierce—she’ll flip if you do. I’m her only cub!
Su Yan went quiet. Beast tongue? Gibberish to him.
“Weird. That tiger demon talked—this one can’t. Playing dumb?”
“Chirp chirp chirp, chirp chirp.”
I’m not faking! Mom says higher demons face cosmic rules—speech is a hurdle, so’s human form. Not my fault.
He didn’t understand at first, but then he realized the fox was trying to explain something.
“Huh… not that dumb after all. So what now?”
He had planned to cook the fox for Junior Sister as a special meal, but those strange choices from the system scared him.
“Too risky!”
His hunger lost to his fear.
“Fine, I’ll let you go.”
He made the water chains disappear and put the fox down. It blinked, confused. Then he used a healing spell.
A soft blue mist covered its wounds, and they healed quickly.
“Chirp chirp chirp?”
The fox looked at its body—besides some missing fur, everything was fine. It almost didn’t believe it had been hurt.
What’s going on? He’s not eating me?
It looked at Su Yan, confused.
“Go away. I was just joking earlier.”
Anyone smart wouldn’t believe that—it was clear he really wanted to eat the fox.
But the fox believed him.
“Chirp chirp chirp.”
You’re as kind as you are good-looking—Mom was right.
It had judged him wrong. He was nice! The “I’ll eat you” thing was just a joke. So playful.
But hey, girls like bad boys, right?
Forgetting he almost cooked it, the fox’s eyes softened, and it happily bounced on the grass.
Then it stopped, thinking hard.
“Chirp chirp.”
“??”
“Chirp chirp chirp.”
“???”
Su Yan blinked, confused.
Seeing he didn’t get it, the fox bit his pants lightly and rubbed its head against him.
What’s up with this fox? Does it have a fever?
“You hungry?”
The fox shook its head and pointed at him, then at itself.
“You… want to thank me?”
He guessed.
The fox nodded. Su Yan got excited.
If he was right, this fox had a powerful master behind it—maybe something strong enough to scare even the whole Yi Xian Sect. Why else would the system offer big rewards?
If the fox really wanted to repay him, it could be a huge win.
He watched the fox closely. The fox copied him, staring right back.
They both kept staring…
“Stop!”
What do you think?
