Chapter 124 An Icy Bond
Wen Ran was stunned by the woman's words, his mind racing with the implications. Whoever this expert was, he was sure she wasn't speaking lightly. Many had tried to control both Yin and Yang forces in the past, but no matter the world, they had all failed. The two energies simply didn't mix. In Wen Ran's mind, the only logical explanation for someone to control both would be to have a separate dantian, or at least a distinct space within one, that could house the two conflicting energies. The possibility that such an ability could exist within him both thrilled and terrified him.
In response to the woman's words, Wen Ran's expression grew serious. If what the broken soul was saying was true, this could be the opportunity of the century. The thought of harnessing both Yin and Yang forces was enough to make his heart race. Not only would it make him incredibly powerful, but if the need arose to hide his identity, he could easily pass as either an ice or fire cultivator, rendering him virtually undetectable. Yet, despite the allure of this potential, Wen Ran knew better than to blindly trust the words of a random stranger. There had to be a catch. There was always a catch.
"What do you want in exchange for giving me your legacy? I imagine many powerful and talented experts have stumbled upon this place in the past. There has to be a reason why you chose me instead." Wen Ran's words were direct, though uncertainty gnawed at him. He still didn't know who he was talking to, but the icy walls that surrounded him like mirrors, reflecting his every movement, made him question his sanity and whether this was even real.
A soft chuckle echoed from the walls, the sound bouncing around the room and the frozen surfaces, like a whisper on the wind. Suddenly, in front of Wen Ran, a pile of snow began to rise from the ground, swirling and spinning. It was as though the wind itself were sculpting a masterpiece. First, human feet appeared, then legs, until finally, the delicate, feminine curves of a woman began to form. Her skin was as white as snow, and her features were so delicate, so perfect, that Wen Ran's heart skipped a beat. The woman standing before him was so stunningly beautiful, it felt almost illegal for someone like her to exist in this world. Was that why she had become nothing but a soul? Wen Ran wondered. His eyes locked with her icy blue gaze, and she returned it, neither of them breaking the connection for a long moment, until the woman finally spoke.
"You are captivated, but not thirsting for my beauty... admirable," she said with a soft smile, her voice carrying a slight amusement. "Men like you were rare even during my reign." Her smile deepened, and she continued, "Your heart is strong, unwilling to yield. Good. I like your type. You will be perfect."
Wen Ran wasn't sure if he fully understood her meaning, especially as the woman gently lifted his chin with her cold, delicate hand. Her touch was as cold as ice itself, yet somehow still strangely comforting.
"All I need from you in exchange for my power," she continued, her voice barely a whisper, "is to slaughter a sect deep within the Frozen Sky Domain. It's in the far north, where the snow and ice are as vast and unforgiving as the world itself."

"Do you expect me to say yes, just because of your inheritance?" Wen Ran's voice was cold, his eyes sharp as he met the woman's gaze. "Why would I take on an entire sect just for the powers of a little ice empress like you?"
The woman smiled at his words, her expression softening before her face inched closer to his. "Heh," she chuckled softly. "I'm not asking you to do it for free, after all. And what is this? Is the prideful God Slayer afraid to take on a copy of an ice goddess? A mere sect palace that protects the place?"
Her words struck Wen Ran like a hammer, pounding into his chest. Not only did this woman know about his past, but she had also uncovered his weakness. His defenses were breached, and he couldn't understand how. How had she managed to slip through his mental barriers, read his memories without his knowledge?
He clenched his fists, his mind swirling with frustration. He needed to get stronger, his mental power needed to evolve, or else any expert on her level could invade his thoughts at will.
"You're courting death, yet you're already dead," Wen Ran said, his voice low and dangerous, but there was a cold edge to it. "Fine, I'll do it. But you also must reveal to me how you got past my defenses. If I'm to risk everything, I want to make sure no living soul can uncover my secrets in the future."
He paused for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he made up his mind. As long as there's a trace of a god in that sect she wants me to destroy, I cannot refuse. I live to kill gods. How could I possibly turn away from this?
The soft smile on the woman's face faded, replaced by a cunning, almost enchanting smile. She leaned in closer, her voice lowering to a whisper as she spoke something in Wen Ran's ear. For a moment, his eyes widened in surprise, but his expression soon returned to its usual indifferent state, though there was an unmistakable flicker of conflict in his gaze. The words she had whispered to him echoed in his mind, making his heart pound harder than it had before.
"Then, I take it you accept my conditions?" The woman's voice was almost a purr, her eyes glinting with a dangerous, knowing gleam. "Very well, Wen Ran. I choose you as my next Frost Emperor. Let the world witness your power, your dominance. Walk my path and crush all who dare oppose you. This world is yours to command."
Before Wen Ran could process or respond to her words, she closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, her lips, soft yet chilling, meeting his.
What do you think?
