Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 665 Common Enemy

After a very awkward and nerve-wracking episode, the Duskfall couple now found themselves sitting across from Adam and Qamara, seemingly acting as decent and polite people would.

Now that both the parties had found a common enemy—something that neither had expected when the day had begun—they were much cordial with one another.

They reckoned that they could, at the very least, first deal with the Cult of Bones before dealing with one another.

With a faint smile on his face, Adam conjured a small crystal vial and placed it on the table in front of him. "Here you go," he said. "The antidote for the snake bite."

Fern immediately grabbed the vial and emptied its contents. Before long, all the purple patches on her skin from the snake bite had completely disappeared. Moreover, she also felt rejuvenated and lively after drinking the potion.

She involuntarily touched her abdomen as she glared at Adam, "I won't forgive you!"

Adam rolled his eyes. "Relax, I'm not that cold-hearted."

Meanwhile, Altan patted his wife's back and spoke through Mind Whisper, 'My love, I'm pretty sure that he lied to you about the child.'

Fern turned her head and looked at him with shock. Altan nodded. 'He was just trying to mess with our minds, and… he succeeded.'

His expression turned solemn and he warned his wife, 'Don't trust a thing he says. Leave everything to me. As soon as I give you the signal, we will act on our contingency plan and get out of here!'

Fern nodded with a serious expression.

"Are you both done?" Qamara asked in a cold voice.

Ever since she found out that the couple secretly ran a human trafficking ring and were also involved in the murder of countless innocent women, she couldn't help but come to loathe them.

If it weren't for the circumstances, she would have already attacked them and made sure that they were severely punished according to their heinous crimes.

The Duskfall couple coldly gazed at Qamara, then at Adam. Altan then spoke up, "Tell me, Magus Constantine, how do you wish to deal with the Cult?"

"Before we start," Adam began. "What is the full name of this organization? Or are they simply known as the Cult?"

"I've always known them as the Cult. Nothing more. Nothing less," Altan answered truthfully.

"…I see." Adam nodded in understanding.

"Tell us everything you know about the Cult," Qamara stated, her voice filled with disgust and hatred.

Altan looked at her deeply for a few moments. He then took a deep breath and began, "This organization known as the Cult is led by the Mana Vortex Magus, Olin Barrett. There are several Rank 2 Magi under him, the exact number… I'm not sure."

"How did you meet them? Where do they operate out of?" The elf pressed. Read latest chapters at My Virtual Library Empire

"I met them a few years ago through some… secret channels," Altan hesitated to speak, but seeing the cold look in the elf's eyes, he chose to explain everything.

"I came across them through my smuggling networks, back when I used to trade in contrabands. They approached me with the proposal of human trafficking and said that it was a highly lucrative business, and so I agreed…"

The more Adam heard the man speak, the more sure he became in his heart, He's spitting out everything. It looks like he doesn't plan to stay in the city any longer. I'm sure he's trying to run, but…

Adam's gaze shifted to the faint bite mark of the serpent still present on Fern's fair neck. His eyes flashed with a sharp glint for a brief moment before he turned his gaze away.

He looked at Qamara and thought solemnly, She's getting too emotional. If this goes on any longer, she might become a liability. I need to take charge.

"Qamara," he called out.

"What?" She looked at him and asked flatly.

"I'm afraid if we stay here for too long the enemy will become suspicious," he said. He then looked at Altan and added, "Let's get straight to the point. Where are the people from the Cult in the manor? How many of them are there? And what are they planning to do?"

Altan turned his attention to Adam and answered, "Last I checked, there were four of them before the party began. More of them might have arrived by now, I'm not sure."

"So many Magi just to deal with me?" Adam smiled bitterly. "They really do think highly of me."

He paused for a moment before solemnly asking, "What about Olin Barrett? Is he here?"

Altan shook his head. "I haven't seen him here. But I doubt he'll show up."

Adam sneered inwardly, Heh, like I'd believe a word you say!

"What are they planning to do tonight?" He asked.

"I'm not sure." Altan shook his head. "I was only instructed to introduce you to all the people here as the guest of honor and then lead you to the main event of the night that will take place underground."

"Underground, eh?" Adam mumbled, stroking his chin deep in thought.

Meanwhile, Altan's eyes flashed with fury and he spat through gritted teeth. "I now realize why they didn't tell me anything else. They were planning to use me as the scapegoat! After all I've done for them… Those damned bastards!"

"Yet, here you are," Adam spoke with a smirk, "having already unraveled their plan against you."

He leaned forward in his chair and asked, "Let me ask you something, Altan. Did these people, at any point in your past dealings, make you or your wife consume something, say, for the sake of collateral?"

Both Altan and Fern shook their heads after a few moments of deep thought.

Adam couldn't help but chuckle, "Makes sense. They probably didn't tell you much about their operations and they were going to use you as expendables."

He paused for a moment before adding, "You see, Altan, I've been fighting opponents stronger than me all my life. Other than the fact that all of them are now dead, do you know what else they had in common?"

"What?" Altan asked, his tone solemn.

"They all underestimated me," Adam grinned. "Just like how Olin Barrett underestimated you because you are a mere Rank 2 - Mana Liquefaction Magus, an ant in his eyes."

He paused for a moment and interlocked his fingers before speaking in a solmen voice, "Altan, tell me all the details of this main event you speak of, and then we can devise a plan on how to take care of those bastards from the Cult."
