Chapter 670 Passionate Suggestion
Based on the knowledge from the fragmented memories of the experts of the Greater Universe, as well as a few intel reports that the Twilight Brotherhood had on the Cult, there were certain unspoken truths and dangers surrounding the sacrificial ritual to the devil.
Firstly, the boons offered by the devils were never permanent. These evil entities made sure that there were regular sacrifices made in their names.
They made sure that once their boons faded and no other sacrifices were made, the recipients of the boons would wither and be cursed.
Secondly, each participant who directly partook in the ritual would be marked by the devil. This ensured that upon death, their souls descended into Hell to serve the devil.
Lastly, and most importantly, if the ritual was ever to be disrupted, the wrath of the devil would be incurred, leading to unimaginable consequences. At that point, absolute chaos would ensue.
Rank 2 Spell: Cloud of Blades!
At that moment, Adam summoned over a hundred spinning blades and hurled them toward the crimson portal.
His lips curled up into a crazy smile and he muttered under his breath, "Chaos is exactly what I want. The more chaos ensues, the greater my chances of coming out on top!"
He grabbed Qamara's hand and immediately jumped backward, continuing to retreat. All the while, he screamed in panic, "Everyone, retreat! Retreat! This is a trap! The Duskfalls have tricked us!"
BOOOM!!
Altan Duskfall, Fern Duskfall, Qamara Feno, all the guests that had been invited to the chamber, as well as all the Rank 2 Magi of the Cult of Bones, were absolutely and utterly dumbfounded by what had just transpired.
The spinning blades, both big and small, flew toward the crimson portal with unmatched ferocity and accuracy. Under the astounded gazes of everyone present, the swirling blades shot straight inside the portal.
A long moment of silence ensued as everyone looked toward the portal with bated breaths.
The thick pillar of blood that had emerged from the pool and was being absorbed by something on the other side of the portal suddenly collapsed. The pillar of blood crumbled and merged back into the pool.
The bone goblet that was hovering under the portal shattered completely and disintegrated into fine ivory dust.
Meanwhile, the ritual formation in the shape of the pentagram turned dim until it finally died down. As for the crimson portal, it remained above the pool, but there was definitely something strange happening. Something strange and sinister.
The portal hummed slowly and methodically at first. The frequency then picked up speed. It seemed as if the portal was breathing deeply, loudly, angrily.
A wave of terror washed over everyone in the chamber. They could feel the entity on the other side of the portal become truly enraged. Just when everyone thought something truly apocalyptic was going to happen, the portal regained its calm.
Altan's back was drenched in cold sweat as he saw the portal above dim gradually. He then turned around and looked toward Adam who had retreated several tens of meters in absolute anger.
The veins on his neck bulged and he screamed furiously, "You bastard, what are you trying to do?! This was not—"

He wanted to say 'This was not part of the plan' but wisely held back his words. He looked at all the cultists gathered in the chamber, their expressions that of fear and disbelief. Even they hadn't expected Adam would pull such a thing.
"How dare you interrupt the ritual?! Do you have any idea what you've done?!" Altan roared.
However, Adam was not having it. He completely ignored the man and looked at all the guests in the chamber. He stretched his left arm wide and clasped his chest with his right.
"My Lords and Ladies," he spoke passionately, having already secretly cast the spell Suggestion. "Altan and his wife… They are using you fine people! Trust me, my friends, trust me! As the guest of honor of tonight's bloody event I certainly know more than you."
He paused for a moment, his tone turning righteous, "Those women that you saw before, they were not the only sacrifices that are to be offered tonight. You, my friends, you! Altan and his wife were planning to sacrifice you as well! That is why I had to stop the ritual!
"I could not bring myself to be a part of this vile and heinous act of mass murder. We are all residents of Ravenfell and as such, you are all my brothers and sisters! I could not, in my good conscience, allow myself to continue with the ritual knowing what was at stake."
Altan had his mouth wide agape at the sudden turn of events. His blood started to boil and he roared, "You fucking backstabbing bastard! What the hell are you on about?!"
"My brothers and sisters, look!" Adam pointed at Altan. "Look how enraged he is because I foiled his plan!"
"You!!!" Altan was at his wit's end. "That's not why I'm mad, you bastard! Shut your mouth!"
He looked around him and saw the guests looking back at him with suspicion. Even the ones who had partaken in the rituals before were now beginning to have doubts. The new ones had already started retreating towards Adam.
This… what the hell is happening?! Altan thought to himself in sheer disbelief. Did Adam cast a spell on them? Stil… I can't allow this to happen!
But Adam was already one step ahead of him.
"My brothers and sisters!" Adam called out passionately. "If you don't believe me yet, look around. Count how many black-robed individuals you see. All of them are Mana Liquefaction Magi, I tell you!"
At a simple glance, the guests noticed that there were fourteen Rank 2 Magi dressed in black, hooded robes.
"Ask yourself this," Adam spoke to them again. "Why would the Duksfalls need so many Rank 2 Magi for the ritual? The ones who have attended this ritual before, let me ask you, were there this many robed individuals back then as well?"
The guests looked amongst each other and noticed the uneasiness in their eyes. It was indeed as Adam had said. There weren't this many Rank 2 individuals the last time they were partaking in the ritual.
All of them now turned towards the Duskfall couple, gazing at them with immense suspicion and hositlity. They couldn't help but step away from them and slowly move toward Adam.
"And if you still don't believe me, there is your final proof!" Adam pointed at the portal that had now come alive. It changed colors from crimson to an ominous black.
An extremely evil energy emerged from the portal and bathed the bloody pool underneath. Under the fearful gazes of everyone present, the black energy covered the pool for a good few seconds before disappearing along with the portal.
An eerie and deafening silence ensued in the chamber when suddenly a rotting and withered hand reached out from inside the pool.
SCREEECH!!!
What do you think?
