This is why Yu Dong looked long and hard to find these brooches, at least these were different from the bracelet and didn't have a button that needed to be pressed to activate the mechanism.

Instead, these brooches would keep a close eye on the heartbeats of the children as long as Yu Mai's heartbeat remained the same nothing would happen but in case his fear reached a certain degree this brooch would protect him.

"What's this, Sister Dong?" Li Yuya asked as she studied the brooch. It was pretty but she couldn't see the reason to carry it with them all the time.

Yu Dong smiled mysteriously and thought about the result of this brooch activation. She replied with a slightly helpless expression, "It will be better if you don't find out."

The reason she handed these brooches to the children was because of Ding Nuannuan. For some reason, that little girl gave her some really bad feelings.

Given that Ding Nuannuan was targeting Yu Mai for some reason, it was better to take precautions rather than to let something bad happen to the children.

'I hope that I am only reading too much in this situation and nothing else,' Yu Dong thought. She didn't like how she couldn't figure out what was going on with Ding Nuannuan.

This situation made her feel helpless and out of control, something that Yu Dong did not like at all. However, there was nothing she could do about Ding Nuannuan at the moment given that the girl had not done anything to her and her family.

'We can only act cautiously for the time being,' Yu Dong thought as she repeatedly told the children to not go anywhere too far from the house and not to be alone.

"I got it, Sister!" Yu Mai replied, sounding helpless. He knew that his sister was rather protective of them but he didn't know that she was this protective.

Half of the village was barred for them to visit by Yu Dong.

Other than the farm and the pond behind their house, they were not allowed to go anywhere.

"It's good that you got it," Yu Dong said to Yu Mai with a smile. "Because if you go somewhere you shouldn't I will know."

"How will you know?"

"I will just know."

Yu Dong did not elaborate on her response but that was enough to make the three children eye her warily, they looked at the brooch in their hands and pursed their lips.

For some reason, this pretty thing was looking rather terrifying.

"Sister Dong! Sister Dong, can you come outside? There is something that I want to discuss with you," Zi Zan who just returned home called for Yu Dong while standing outside the main house of the Yu house.

Yu Dong raised her head and called out, "I am coming." She then turned to look at the children and said, "Don't go anywhere you shouldn't."

Yu Mai and the other two agreed without refuting Yu Dong.

However, that promise flew out of their mind as soon as they rushed out of the house to play with their friends.

"Mai! Do you want to come with us?" One of the girls asked Yu Mai. "We are going to catch some eels. My daddy promised to make me eel noodles if I catch some."

The meat of the eels caught in the rice paddies was not heaty and they tasted really good if they were cooked properly.

Villagers wouldn't miss a chance to eat meat and at the moment when the rice paddies were yet to be cultivated, they could run amok as they wanted without worrying about ruining the rice crop.

"I——I want to catch eels!" Yu Mai immediately felt his mouth water when he recalled the braised eel with rice bowl.

His third brother-in-law was really good at getting rid of the fishy smell of eel meat and even marinated it well such that the flavour would burst in every bite.

"Mai, we cannot go," Lang Ru said to Yu Mai as she raised her head from the chicks. "Sister Dong said that she doesn't want us to go far and the rice fields are outside the village."

Yu Mai hesitated but then the girl named Feng Yongjin tilted her head before saying, "Why can't you come with us? It is not like we are going alone, everyone will be going."

"That's right," Feng Ergou, Feng Yongjin's brother, came to a skidding halt as he looked at Yu Mai. "We are going together! Mai don't refuse this time, you have been playing at home for all this while and haven't come to see us for so long. If you don't go today then I—-I will not talk to you for three hours."

"Then—-Then let's go," Yu Mai did not want to anger his friend so he agreed. When Lang Ru saw that Yu Mai had agreed and sighed with an oncoming headache. She did not know but Lang Ru had a feeling that they were going to be punished by Yu Dong again.

'But what wrong could go while catching eel?' Lang Ru thought with a frown.

"Damn you bastards, I finally caught you!" A voice roared at them as soon as they arrived at the rice paddies.

Lang Ru and Yu Mai turned to look at the woman who had come looking for them. Lang Ru protected Yu Mai instinctively and questioned, "Who are you? What do you want?"
