Heavens' Laughter

Chapter 49 Core

The Xiangliu surged forward at maximum speed, crashing through everything in its path with brutal force.

"HIIIIISSSSSS!"

Its two heads whipped from side to side, eyes scanning wildly as it charged, desperate to escape and prepared to obliterate anything in its way.

Rocks shattered beneath its massive coils, trees splintered like brittle twigs, and the ground trembled under the relentless force of its escape.

The Xiangliu was unstoppable, a force of nature tearing through the forest, driven by sheer survival instinct

"'Uh~ what a pain…' Feng Shen sighed, stretching his neck a little.

In a flash, he appeared on the branches of a still-standing tree, his form barely a blur.

With effortless grace, Feng Shen began using Shadow Step, moving from branch to branch in quick, silent bursts, closing in on the fleeing monster with predatory precision.

A twisted, lustful grin spread across his face, his golden eyes gleaming with sadistic delight as he watched the creature spiral further into terror with each step he gained.

Its wild, thrashing and desperate attempts to flee only fueled Feng Shen's excitement, igniting a dark thrill that burned through him.

He savored every moment of its despair, feeling an intoxicating power in the creature's helplessness—a power he craved, no matter if his prey was human or monster.

After all, to Feng Shen, fear was the ultimate currency, and he intended to drain every last drop.

"HIIIISSSSS!!!!"

The Xiangliu sensed the grim finality of its situation, its survival instincts screaming that escape was futile. With a tremor of defiance, it skidded to a halt, its body coiling tightly as both heads slowly turned to face its relentless pursuer.

Rows of razor-sharp teeth gleamed as it bared its fangs, venom dripping onto the forestfloor below.

Every muscle in its scaled body tensed, its dual gaze locked onto the pursuer with a mix of fury and desperation.

If the Xiangliu was going to meet its end, it would do so in a final, furious stand, unleashing every ounce of its strength in one last fight for survival.

Stopping in his tracks, Feng Shen peered down at the snake with a satisfied smile:

"Ah, so you'd rather stand your ground? How brave of you,' he taunted, his voice thick with mock amusement:

Then, with deliberate slowness, Feng Shen leaned forward, letting himself drop toward the ground. He landed with flawless poise, feet planted firmly and hands clasped behind his back.

"I have to say, most of your ancestors would've kept running." Feng Shen's laughter rang out, resounding around.

His eyes never left the monster, savoring the sight as he took a few leisurely steps forward, as if daring the snake to make its move.

And the Xiangliu did just that.

With the last ounce of strength it could summon, it surged forward in a final, desperate charge, its massive coils rippling with the raw power of Qi.

The forest floor trembled beneath its furious assault as it launched itself, its venomous fangs bared and eyes filled with madness.

A deafening hiss erupted from deep within its throat, the sound primal and full of rage. The creature's last defiant cry as it closed the distance in a reckless attempt to strike:

"HISSSS!!!"

However, as the Xiangliu lunged, its massive fangs just inches from Feng Shen's face, he moved with blinding speed.

"Bye, bye!"

In an instant, Feng Shen opened his mouth wide, drawing in a deep breath. Qi surged through his body, gathering in his throat and mouth as he channeled every ounce of his own power into the devastating technique.

Without hesitation, he unleashed Dragon's Roar, the sound of it like a thunderclap, a wave of pure force rippling through the air.

The blast erupted with such intensity that the Xiangliu was instantly disintegrated, its form torn apart in an explosion of Qi.

The shockwave tore through the surrounding forest, obliterating trees, rocks, and anything else caught in its path, leaving only destruction behind.

"Ah~ I totally over did it…" Feng Shen muttered, scratching the back of his head with an amused expression, as if the surroundings were nothing more than a slight inconvenience.

He stepped forward, his eyes shifting to the remains of the Xiangliu scattered across the wreckage.

"There it is."

Among the debris, Feng Shen spotted the creature's core, glowing with a pulsating energy, its surface crackling with Qi.

It lay untouched in the center of the destruction, almost as if it had been left behind intentionally.

Feng Shen crouched down and picked up the glowing core, spinning it casually on his finger as he examined it closely.

The vibrant pulse of Qi within the core flickered, swirling in intricate patterns.

'Well, it seems this is enough Qi to open up her meridians,' Feng Shen thought to himself, a satisfied grin curling on his lips.

He was relieved—he hadn't expected to find a good core on the first try.

Sometimes, the monsters with cores weren't strong enough, and their Qi was far too weak to be of any real use.

This one, however, was different; it was potent, filled with enough energy to fuel his plans without the need for another hunt.

"Now…' Feng Shen straightened, rising smoothly from his crouched position as he scanned the surrounding area. His eyes shifted back toward the distance where he had last seen his personal servant:

"I have to get back to her… I swear, why can't she just follow me around?"

Feng Shen let out an exasperated sigh, resisting the urge to facepalm as the frustration of always having to track her down began to set in.

His irritation was clear, but it didn't stop him from turning on his heel and heading back, his steps steady, though his mind still simmered with a mix of annoyance.

'Can't I just put a leash on her?'

"There you are…" Feng Shen muttered. His sharp gaze landed on his personal servant. "Come on out."

She was tucked beneath a large rock, curled up tightly in the fetal position, her arms wrapped protectively around her knees.

Yùn Yì's head peeked out from under the rock, eyes wide, clearly startled by his sudden appearance.

"Oh my~ Second Young Master! That was fast!" She exclaimed, her voice a mix of surprise and admiration as she quickly scrambled out from beneath the rock.

Her movements were swift, yet her eyes betrayed a hint of disbelief.

Yùn Yì had known the Second Young Master could take down that monster, but never had she expected him to do so with such speed and ease.

'Not even a scratch on his hands—face…'

Every day, Yùn Yì found herself more in awe of the Second Young Master, as if he were growing more and more beyond her understanding.

For a moment, she couldn't tear her eyes away from the core in his hands. It was unmistakable—a core, its faint, pulsating glow and the raw Qi swirling within confirming it.

Yùn Yì's gaze darted between the core and the Second Young Master's expressionless face. A mix of curiosity filled her.

She had never seen this sort of core before in person, though she had heard of it many times from her grandfather's teachings.

So, Yùn Yì' knew this was no ordinary core. The Qi swirling within it was thick and potent.

"'S-s-second Young Master… I-is th-that… f-for me?" she asked hesitantly, her finger pointing to herself as a flicker of hope danced in her.

Yùn Yì' recalled the conversation they'd had earlier, where he had mentioned wanting her to start cultivating.

Her eyes shifted from the core to the Second Young Master, waiting for his response, wondering if this truly was the moment he had decided to push her further on the path he had outlined for her.

Yùn Yì's heart raced with anticipation.

Nodding his head, Feng Shen extended his hands, offering the core to his personal servant with a casual indifference:

"Go ahead and take it."

Grabbing it gently, Yùn Yì couldn't shake the feeling that she was holding something more valuable than anything she had ever held in her entire life.

The core felt delicate in her hands, as if it were both a treasure. She felt as though even the slightest misstep could shatter it.

Yùn Yì's fingers trembled slightly, not from fear, but from the weight of the responsibility in her hands.

This core in her hands could alter the course of her fate.

"C-can I, really?" Yùn Yì's voice was barely above a whisper as she looked down at the core in her hands.

Her fingers curled around it a little tighter, but the uncertainty in her heart made her question if she was truly ready for this.@@novelbin@@

Yùn Yì glanced back up at the Second Young Master, seeking his approval once more.

She needed his reassurance, as if his confirmation would give her the strength to take the leap.

'Holy shit… this dumb bitch…'

Feng Shen held back a heavy sigh, his patience wearing thin as he fought the urge to backhand her and snap at her to stop hesitating.

He could feel the frustration building inside him—this was a simple task, yet here his personal servant was, questioning it.

But instead of lashing out, Feng Shen put away his irritation and kept his expression impassive:

"Go on, swallow it."
