Chapter 97 Skeletons
Deprived of any guidance, the small spiders descended into chaos.
Many skittered away in frantic bursts, their tiny legs moving erratically as they sought refuge in the shadows, while others remained rooted to the spot, frozen in stillness as if unsure whether to flee or stay.
Feng Shen wasted no time, dashing toward the 27th Floor.
"This is a walk in the park." He scoffed.
Along the way, Feng Shen tore through the webs, blocking his path with swift movements.
Glancing back, he saw more students pouring into the fray.
"It seems they defeated the Minotaur…" Feng Shen muttered, letting out a weary sigh as frustration flickered in his eyes.
He had been counting on the battle to drag out, hoping the beast would thin their numbers or at least delay their advance.
However, luck had not been on Feng Shen's side.
Not only had they emerged victorious, but now an even larger wave of students was on the floor.
'What a nuisance…' Feng Shen thought.
His attention, however, was quickly drawn to the giant spider.
It was slowly rising, its wounds mending unnaturally as its monstrous face began to reform.
Seeing this, Feng Shen's lips curled into a satisfied smile as the giant spider let out an ear-splitting hiss of rage.
The smaller spiders, no longer aimless, immediately fell into line, their frenzied movements now directed at the other students.
Chaos erupted as the arachnids swarmed their new targets, forcing the students into disarray.
Feng Shen couldn't suppress a chuckle at the scene unfolding behind him. With one last glance, he ascended to the next floor, vanishing completely from sight.
And so, he found himself face-to-face with an army of hundreds upon hundreds of skeletons, each clad in iron armor, their skeletal hands gripping swords and shields.
Yet, Feng Shen paid them no mind. His gaze swept past the rank and file, locking onto the figure at the very back—a skeleton mounted on a ghostly horse.
The rider was adorned in resplendent golden armor, a faint glow emanating from a small staff held firmly in its bony grasp.
Feng Shen's focus sharpened. "I haven't seen a Skeleton Rider in… I don't know how long… It's truly been a long time."
Suddenly, his golden eyes lit up with a spark of realization. "Wait a minute... if I can get my hands on that staff…" he murmured, his voice tinged with excitement.
A wide grin spread across his face, his teeth glinting in the dim light as ambition flared within him.
Without wasting another moment, Feng Shen shot forward like a bolt of lightning.
The Skeleton Rider instantly took notice of the approaching human. It raised its staff and pointed it directly.
In response, the skeletal warriors moved in unison, forming an impenetrable wall of shields to block the human's path.
From the staff, a dark, sinister energy began to pour forth, spreading like tendrils of smoke and connecting to each skeleton.
The effect was immediate—their bones darkened and thickened, their forms hardening as the ominous power fortified them.
However, Feng Shen didn't falter for even a moment. Ignoring the skeletal wall entirely, he maintained his breakneck pace, charging headlong into the shield-bearing skeletons like a human rocket.
The impact was devastating—most of them shattered on contact, their bones exploding into fragments that scattered across the floor.
Still, a few managed to withstand the initial onslaught.
They raised their swords and swung them down, bolstered by the dark energy.
For a brief second, Feng Shen felt a strange heaviness settle over him, leaving him momentarily stunned by the staff's suppressive effect.
Yet, the blades failed to pierce his body, glancing off as if striking unyielding steel.@@novelbin@@
With a sharp exhale, Feng Shen unleashed Dragon's Roar, a powerful shockwave rippling outward.
The remaining skeletons were blown away, their forms disintegrating.
Feng Shen's eyes locked onto the Skeleton Rider, his focus sharp and unwavering.
Taking a deep breath, he surged forward once more, his speed unstoppable.
This time, Feng Shen barreled through the remaining skeletons with even more ferocity, using their own weapons against them as he ripped swords from their hands and swung them with ruthless precision.
Nothing could slow him now.
The oppressive effect of the staff seemed to have lost its hold on Feng Shen, as if the dark energy had no power over him anymore.
After all, his forbidden bloodline had adapted to such dark energy.
So… Each skeleton that stood in Feng Shen's path was crushed or sent flying, unable to resist the unstoppable force of his assault.
Noticing that its staff was ineffective, the Skeleton Rider cast it aside with a swift, dismissive motion.
The ghostly horse beneath it let out a resounding neigh, its ethereal form shimmering as it reared up on its hind legs.
In a flash, a long, jagged bone sword materialized out of thin air, its razor-sharp edge glinting ominously as the Skeleton Rider gripped it tightly.
The empty sockets of its bone-white eyes glowed with flickering flames, a fire that seemed to burn from within.
Feng Shen's lips curled into a mocking grin as he motioned toward the Skeleton Rider with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"What are you waiting for?" he taunted. "Come at me, pussy." .
Feng Shen knew he needed to end this quickly, before the students below arrived. He didn't want anybody to get their hands on that staff.
After all, it would be an annoyance.
Plus, Feng Shen was determined to finish the fight on his terms.
With a feral, predatory gaze fixed on the human, the Skeleton Rider urged the ghostly steed forward, launching into a deadly charge that crackled with dark energy.
Seconds later, Feng Shen saw the bone sword descending toward him, its deadly edge aimed straight for his head.
The pressure of the strike built up, but in the blink of an eye, he caught the blade between his fingers, stopping it dead in its tracks.
Not a scratch.
A smirk spread across Feng Shen's face as he squeezed, the bone sword cracking with a resounding snap.
The ghostly horse reared back in a panic, sensing its master's weapon destroyed.
It tried to pull away, but Feng Shen wasn't about to let this opportunity slip.
Without hesitation, he launched himself forward, his body a blur as he released Dragon's Roar point-blank.
The shockwave rippled through the air, blasting the ghost horse and Skeleton Rider back, sending them sprawling.
Without so much as a glance, Feng Shen used Shadow Step, vanishing from sight and reappearing in front of the discarded staff.
Picking it up, he then used the technique again, vanishing in a blur as he moved to the next floor.
As Feng Shen materialized, he found his path blocked by a mass of bones, stacked high like an impassable wall.
With a sigh, he clenched his fist and, with a single, effortless punch, shattered the bones into pieces, the fragments scattering in all directions.
"Now that's done…" Feng Shen muttered to himself, just as he was about to take a step forward. Suddenly, his ears twitched, and an idea sparked in his mind.
His eyes flickered back toward the entrance of the floor, a mischievous glint appearing in his gaze.
Without hesitation, Feng Shen turned on his heel and began walking back.
Those watching from the outside were utterly baffled. Continue reading stories on My Virtual Library Empire
They couldn't understand why the young man, who had just defeated countless enemies and cleared the floor with ease, was now moving downward instead of continuing up.
It didn't make any sense.
The logic was lost on them—why abandon progress and go back?
Their confusion grew, with whispers and questions swirling in the air.
"He just crushed all those opponents effortlessly, so why isn't he continuing forward to the next floor?"
"Could he be afraid of what's ahead? But he seemed so confident before."
"He looks strong, but if he's backing down now, does that mean he's lacking something we didn't see?"
"He was acting so tough before, but now he's running away like a coward. All that talk about power, and he's too scared to keep going?"
"Pathetic. He just showed off, defeated a few weaklings, and now he's too scared to face what's ahead. What a joke."
Hearing all of this, Yùn Yì's blood began to boil.
She wanted nothing more than to leap from her seat and shout at everyone, daring to speak ill of the Second Young Master.
The injustice of it all made Yùn Yì's fists clench in frustration.
But she had already been warned countless times by the staff to keep her composure, or risk being kicked out for stirring trouble.
So, instead, Yùn Yì could only bite down on her handkerchief, trying to swallow her anger.
Her eyes burned with the desire to defend the Second Young Master, yet unable to do so.
"Arhhgg! This isn't fair!" Yùn Yì growled, her voice muffled as she bit down hard on her handkerchief:
"All I want to do is rip their heads off!"
Yùn Yì's fists trembled at her sides.
Sighing heavily, Cai Xiu crossed her arms, her eyes cold as ice, as she muttered:
"Well, if you're planning to rip heads off, maybe you should start with that handkerchief. It's already a casualty… But hey, no need to go full head-hunter just yet…"
What do you think?
