Chapter 416 Story 416: The Crimson Corridor

The BTO team advanced cautiously, the air thick with tension as they entered the grand yet decrepit hall known as the Crimson Corridor. The room stretched endlessly before them, illuminated by flickering torches that lined the crimson carpet—a faded path stained with the echoes of countless battles. Each step echoed ominously, the sound amplified by the arched ceilings above.

Commander Rook led the charge, his sharp eyes scanning every shadow. "Stay alert. This place screams ambush," he warned, his voice low but firm. His hand rested on the handle of his combat knife, ready for action.

Ghost was the first to break formation, disappearing into the darkness with the stealth of a predator. She hugged the walls, her suppressed weapon at the ready, blending into the shadows. Through her comms, she whispered, "Multiple heat signatures ahead, about twenty meters. They're moving erratically."

"Zombies or something else?" asked Shadow, her sniper rifle poised for action. She had taken a high vantage point on a crumbling balcony, providing overwatch.

"Too scattered for human, too organized for undead," Ghost replied. "Could be traps."

Bulwark stepped forward, his heavy footsteps reverberating like a drumbeat. "Let them try. I'll clear the path," he said, gripping his grenade launcher. His hulking frame was a wall of confidence.

The team moved forward as a unit, the crimson carpet beneath them crunching with the weight of time and decay. Suddenly, the torches dimmed, plunging the room into an eerie twilight. From the shadows emerged a group of enemies—half-human, half-machine hybrids, their glowing red eyes piercing through the darkness.

"Cyber-Reavers!" shouted Rook. "Engage!"

Bulwark roared and fired the first shot, a grenade sailing through the air and exploding in a burst of shrapnel and fire. The blast took out two of the hybrids, but the rest scattered, their movements unnervingly fast.

Shadow picked her targets with precision, each shot from her sniper rifle finding its mark. "Headshots only!" she reminded the team. The hybrids were heavily armored, but their exposed cybernetic brains were their weak spots.@@novelbin@@

Viper charged into the fray, her combat knives gleaming under the dim light. She moved like a whirlwind, slicing through armor and wires with deadly efficiency. One of the hybrids lunged at her, but she sidestepped and drove her blade into its neck, severing its connection to its power core.

Meanwhile, Ghost had flanked the enemies, taking them out silently and methodically. She planted a smoke grenade to obscure their movements, creating chaos among the hybrids.

Rook, at the center of the chaos, fought with calculated brutality. His shotgun roared as he tore through the remaining hybrids. "Bulwark, door breach!" he commanded, pointing to the grand door at the end of the corridor.

Bulwark planted a breaching charge, and the team took cover. The explosion echoed like thunder, and the door crumbled, revealing the next phase of their journey—a spiral staircase descending into darkness. Discover stories at My Virtual Library Empire

"Regroup and reload," Rook ordered. "This was just the welcoming party. Whatever's below won't be as friendly."

The team nodded, steeling themselves for the unknown terror that awaited them.
