Chapter 436 Story 436: The Labyrinth Below
The oppressive darkness enveloped the team like a living entity, its silence broken only by their labored breaths and the faint hum emanating from Viper's glowing tome. The void they had entered was vast and featureless, but as their eyes adjusted, faint patterns began to emerge on the ground beneath their feet. Intricate symbols, etched into the stone, pulsed faintly with a dull red light.
"Stay close," Rook ordered, his voice low but firm. "We don't know what's out there."
Ghost moved ahead, his silhouette melting into the shadows as he scouted the area. Shadow followed, her rifle raised and her eyes scanning the horizon. Bulwark brought up the rear, his massive frame a reassuring presence against the unknown.
"The energy here is… suffocating," Viper whispered, her voice trembling. The tome in her hands felt heavier than ever, its glow casting eerie patterns on her face. "It's like the air itself is alive."
"Keep it together," Rook said, his eyes narrowing as he studied the glowing patterns on the ground. "These symbols… they're a map. Or a warning."
"A map to what?" Shadow asked, her voice tense.
Before Rook could respond, Ghost's voice crackled over the comms. "We've got a problem. Multiple pathways ahead. And something… something's moving in the distance."
The team advanced cautiously, their weapons at the ready. The void seemed to stretch infinitely, but as they moved forward, the pathways Ghost had mentioned became clear. Dozens of corridors, each lined with the same glowing runes, extended in every direction. The air was thick with tension, every sound amplified in the oppressive silence.
"Which way?" Bulwark asked, his grip tightening on his weapon.
Viper hesitated, flipping through the tome. The pages glowed brighter as she neared the center of the crossroads. "The book… it's guiding us," she said, pointing to a corridor to the left. "This way."
"Let's move," Rook said, leading the way.
The corridor was narrow, its walls etched with more of the glowing runes. The hum grew louder, resonating in their bones. As they moved deeper, the air grew colder, their breaths visible in the dim light.

"Something's wrong," Ghost said, his voice barely audible. "The shadows… they're moving."
The team froze, their eyes scanning the walls. At first, it seemed like a trick of the light, but then the shadows detached themselves, coalescing into humanoid shapes. Their eyes burned with the same red light as the runes, and their movements were eerily synchronized.
"Contact!" Rook shouted, opening fire.
Bulwark unleashed a torrent of bullets, his heavy weapon roaring in the confined space. Shadow's sniper rifle cracked, each shot precise and deadly. Ghost darted between the figures, his blade flashing as he took them down one by one.
Viper stood at the center, her hands trembling as she chanted from the tome. The runes on the walls flared to life, their light intensifying until the shadows recoiled, their forms dissolving into nothingness.
"Keep moving!" Rook ordered, pulling Viper forward. "We can't stay here."
The corridor opened into another chamber, this one dominated by a massive, pulsating crystal at its center. The red light from the crystal bathed the room in an eerie glow, and the hum was now a deafening roar.
"This is it," Viper said, her voice barely audible over the noise. "The source of the curse."
The crystal pulsed violently, and from its surface emerged a figure, its form shifting and indistinct. Its eyes burned with an otherworldly fire, and its voice echoed in their minds.
"You dare to disturb my domain?" it intoned, its tone a mixture of rage and amusement.
"We're here to end this," Rook said, stepping forward. "Whatever you are, your reign ends now."
The figure laughed, a sound that reverberated through the chamber. "Then come, mortals. Face your despair."
As the figure surged forward, the team braced themselves, their weapons at the ready. The final battle had begun.
What do you think?
