Chapter 669 89
"You are strong." Calle admitted. She thought the A-rank Hybrid would be the same as the weaker ones. Strong against those below it in strength rank yet can be defeated with some difficulty by those equal to it strength wise. Not equal to her.
She had fought the A-rank Hybrid for 10 minutes straight, unleashing her entire strength to defeat her foe. However, it was not enough as an even fight commence between the two of them.
Yet, the fight cause the black-haired woman's blood to boil in delight. She always wished for a good fight. That's the reason why her strength grow quickly, allowing her to become an A-rank adventurer, before her strength get her a candidacy as the Guild Leader of Betrum Adventure Guild.
If she was alone with the monster, she would not stop fighting. However, right now, she has the life of 10 000 people behind her, so, Calle could not be selfish.
"Unfortunately for you, I don't have the luxury to fight you on my own." As she said this, an axe aimed for the legs of the Human Bug.
It jumped, managing to save one of its leg, though it lose another. With one leg gone, it's went off balance, struggling to remain standing as it wobbled on its one leg. Find adventures on My Virtual Library Empire
With its being weakened, the two A-rankers did not waste time and charged straight at the monster. Calle strike its head, while Vahan target its midsection.
Recognizing the grave danger it was in, the Human Bug pressed on its remaining leg before leaping upward, dodging the devastating axe swing, instead receiving a piercing blow on its thigh.
As green ooze flow out of its injury, the monster let out another screech. Despite the loud screech, the two A-rankers could tell it was weaker than before, the sound similar to shout of pain than order.
However, just as they thought it was screaming it's pain out, the remaining swarms let out piercing screech of their own as they ran in different directions.
The rampage, one that no different from stampede of herd animals caused the soldiers to be surprised, some almost panicking.
Understanding dawned on the two A-rankers, that this is the swan song of the swarm, to cause as much damage as possible before they were slaughtered.
"This swarm, it might be a rouge one, so it cannot return to the main swarm, or swarm coalition." Calle suggested. Vahan planned on believing the Guild Leader, as it make some sense.
With the swarm running all around like headless chicken, the two A-rankers prepared to fight the leader of the swarm, though they were cautious. Since the swarm was on its last leg and goes on its hail mary, the leader would go crazy, doing its best to kill or badly injured one of them, even if its life is the price.
"It's will be more suicidal." Calle warned, a few second before the monster leap at them. Even with one leg lose, it can still jump like a grasshopper, bouncing around as it attempted to deliver a killing blow.
As it move around, the two A-rankers keep an eye out, doing their best to ensure it will remain in the area. Should it jump away, it can terrorize the entire army before it would be put down.
To prevent that, they created a confinement area, forcing it to stay in one particular spot while waiting for the monster to bleed out.
The monster was intelligent enough to recognize the strategy. However, it did not possess the intellect to counter it.
Instead, it went mad, jumping even faster as it tried to gouge the closest person to it. Dodging the jump, Calle took the chance when it's back was to her to throw her spear.
As it leap in a straight line, an accurate throw was enough for the spear to hit its mark. The spear managed to hit where the spine would be for a human, hopefully removing its ability to move.
As it turns out, it was enough, the monster trying to drag its broken body to the nearest soldier. Vahan put a stop to it, giving it an execution and cutting of its head.
As its head rolled, Vahan and Calle let out tired sighs.
"That fight should not be so tiring." Vahan complained. Calle inclined to agree. They on fought for 10 to 15 minutes, yet it felt like longer than that.
However, even if they cut the head of the swarm, they still need to deal with the rest of it. "Rest for 10 minutes then we going to kill the B-rank monsters." Calle exclaimed. Vahan nodded, as the two take the time to rest and replenish their energy.
It won't do for them to kill an A-rank only to get killed by B-rank due to exhaustion, would it.

As the A-rank was killed, the swarm lose all of its cohesion as it split into several groups, each lead by a B-rank Human Bug. Even with the loss of the strongest and being outnumbered in term of stronger combatants, the swarm is still a deadly threat, as it's average warrior surpassed the soldiers of Betrum by far.
However, when the swarm was broken by the death of its leader, the reinforcing 50 000 soldiers rushed in like a wave of metal, colliding with the broken swarm.
The soldiers, most of them cavalry crushed the remaining swarm, sending the survivors fleeing all over the place.
As the swarm fought to the last, casualties could not be avoided. Though, it was smaller than should be possible with the number of C-rank monsters.
Yet, they manage. With the monsters in flight, their ability to fight dwindled, allowing for the stronger officers and adventurers to hunt down the rest, as the two Armies and adventurers did their best to ensure the extinction of the swarm.
As they killed the last of them, they did not notice several Human Bugs watching from the forts, with a look that can be described as disinterested.
What do you think?
