Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Song Lin’s Professional Show
A police car stopped in the hotel’s underground parking lot.
Song Lin opened the car door, walked toward the elevator, and headed straight for the surveillance room.
Upon arriving at the surveillance room, Song Lin began reviewing previous footage to inspect the suspects identified by Wang Qiang.
Song Lin spent an hour at triple speed, scanning through all the surveillance before lighting a cigarette, leaning back wearily in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“There really is something wrong…”
Song Lin muttered to himself, picked up the walkie-talkie from the desk, pressed the talk button, and spoke, “This is Song Lin, I will be replacing Wang Qiang as the commander of this operation. All units, maintain your positions.”
“Roger that!”
As soon as Song Lin’s voice fell, a series of “Roger that!” came through the walkie-talkie.
“Shi Guang!”
Song Lin called out over the walkie-talkie.
“Captain Song, I’m here!”
The recently returned Shi Guang responded immediately.
“How’s the verification of the mother and son’s identities going?”
Song Lin, while looking at the monitor displaying Han Xue’s face, inquired.
“Captain Song, we have verified it with the relatives; it’s definitely her.”
Shi Guang answered promptly.
“The relatives are indeed her?”
Song Lin furrowed his brow involuntarily.
Shi Guang responded, “Yes, it’s been confirmed!”
“Did you show the relatives the photos of the mother and son?”
Song Lin, staring at Han Xue’s image on the surveillance screen, asked with furrowed brows.
“We only showed the relatives the woman’s photo.”
Hearing this, Shi Guang paused, then responded truthfully.
Upon hearing this, Song Lin’s brows tightened even more.
“Take the full-body and close-up screenshots of the mother and son, go back to the relatives for confirmation, and also get the relatives’ photos of the mother and son to send to the technical department for comparative analysis,” Song Lin instructed after a moment of thought.
“Yes!”
Shi Guang replied.
“Oh, by the way!”
“This afternoon, when the woman returned to the hotel from outside, she made a phone call. According to lip-reading, the other end seemed to be the child’s father. Verify at once if the woman’s husband received such a call.”
“If not, retrieve the call logs from the telephone card registered under the woman’s name.”
Song Lin instructed Shi Guang while reviewing the surveillance video of Han Xue making the call that afternoon, frame by frame.
Shi Guang solemnly replied, “Yes, I’m on it right away!”
Song Lin put down the walkie-talkie and continued analyzing the content of Han Xue’s phone call through lip-reading.
“The weather?”
“Is the weather really that important?”
“Why did she ask about it twice?”
Song Lin murmured to himself.
He picked up his cellphone and glanced at the weather forecast.
The weather forecast showed clear skies all day!
“Asking twice, her body language noticeably tensed up. Could the weather be some kind of code?”
Song Lin muttered suspiciously.
With this thought, Song Lin immediately began replaying the surveillance video.
He watched and rewatched the video of Han Xue carrying a shopping bag, entering the hotel.
Suddenly, Song Lin’s eyes lit up.
He pressed the pause button!
“This is it!”
Song Lin exclaimed joyfully.
On the surveillance screen, there appeared the frame with Han Xue and Officer Xiaoli.
“Beneath the sunglasses, the woman’s eyes should be making eye contact with Xiaoli!”
Song Lin muttered.
“This woman, after making eye contact with Xiaoli, had a subconscious tensing of her entire body as if she wanted to stand up, followed by a covering action, fearing Xiaoli might notice her, indicating that she is very guilty.”
“From here on, the woman’s head is not facing towards Xiaoli anymore, but from this angle, the woman’s peripheral vision should be able to constantly observe Xiaoli’s every move, indicating she is very afraid of Xiaoli, yet needs to be constantly aware of Xiaoli’s actions.”
On the surveillance screen, Han Xue’s entrance to the elevator, captured on video, was replayed over and over again, analyzing every frame of Han Xue’s movements from the perspectives of behavioral psychology and psychology.
“Wang Qiang’s feelings were not wrong, this woman indeed has issues.”
Song Lin pressed the pause button, marking Han Xue with a suspicious expression.
“Since the woman has issues, that child…”
Thinking of the video where the child and the woman showed no signs of estrangement in their intimate actions, clearly not typical of a child’s reaction to a stranger.
A child could not mistake his own mother.
“Even if this woman looks exactly like her mom, unless it’s someone he spends day and night with, the child’s sharp intuition would also feel uneasy.”
Song Lin frowned and grumbled.
“Moreover, would a competent mother leave her child alone in a hotel room for so long, and take the room card with her?”
“Would a child so young not be scared?”
“Alone in a hotel room without electricity, this child, instead of showing fear, was calmly responding to the cleaning staff who came for room service?”
“Is this the reaction one would expect from a child under ten years old?”
Looking at the phone, where Shi Guang had sent the information about the mother and child, he finally focused his gaze on the child’s info section, specifically on the words “eight years old.”
With this in mind, Song Lin began replaying the surveillance, retrieving all frames showing Han Xue and Axi appearing on the screen.
From getting out of the taxi to entering room 512, every frame under each surveillance camera was displayed on separate screens.
“I want to see if there are any slip-ups.”
Song Lin muttered, beginning to play the surveillance videos slowly, examining every frame featuring Han Xue and Axi.
…
In room 507!
Fang Xiaocao was also viewing the hotel’s surveillance footage through her phone.
Like Song Lin, Fang Xiaocao watched all the surveillance footage from Han Xue and Axi getting out of the taxi to entering room 512.
In comparison to Song Lin’s professionalism, Fang Xiaocao simply watched without any particular technique or the knowledge of professional criminal investigation to guide her, only using some psychology extended from hypnotism.
Fang Xiaocao watched, while recalling in her mind the memories she had of Han Xue and Axi.
She compared the Han Xue and Axi in her memories with those in the surveillance video.
Compared to Song Lin’s aimless search for suspicious traces, Fang Xiaocao’s purposeful comparison was more targeted.
It was just to see who would take a step ahead of the other.
…
In room 518 at the hotel!
A middle-aged uncle and a charming secretary sat opposite each other.
The room was very tidy, and the bed was without wrinkles, clearly indicating that no intimate activities, as rumored by the receptionist, had taken place.
“Call Capricorn!”
“There are cops in the hotel, and they still let us come. Ask this crazy woman what she means by that,”
the middle-aged man said with a grim expression, his face cold.
In his eyes flickered violence and anger.
“Alrighty~”
The flirtatious secretary smiled seductively, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
What do you think?
