Chapter 50: Chapter 50 The Devil’s Game

Seeing this scene, Song Lin was horrified.

Without time to think any further, Song Lin ran towards the first-floor window. @@novelbin@@

Stepping on the windowsill, gripping the cracks in the bricks, he began to climb toward the second floor.

The small building had a second floor; the door on the first floor was a security iron door, utterly impossible to kick open.

The windows on the first floor were also fitted with security bars, simply unclimbable.

Only the second-floor bedroom, because it had a small balcony, hadn’t been fitted with any security equipment.

Song Lin carefully gripped the cracks in the bricks, inching upwards. His fingers turned white from the strain. After climbing two or three meters he had already scraped them, his fingertips marked with blood, and a piercing pain swept over him.

Fortunately, the small balcony on the second floor was about seven meters above the ground. Song Lin gritted his teeth and persisted, soon reaching the edge of the balcony.

He threw a punch, smashing it hard against the glass.

The window glass shattered with a sound, and the shattered glass scattered all over the floor, making a “clatter,” and Song Lin’s fist was a blur of blood and flesh.

With a powerful push from his arm, Song Lin leaped onto the balcony.

The balcony was small, barely enough for one person.

On the inner side, closer to the bedroom, there was another layer of glass door.

Song Lin tried to push it, and the glass door wasn’t locked.

Song Lin walked into the bedroom in the dark, took out his phone, and turned on the flashlight.

“Officer Song, isn’t this breaking and entering?”

Just then, a sinister voice suddenly rang out in the bedroom.

Song Lin stiffened, mechanically turning his head toward the direction of the voice.

“Click!”

A light sound, and the bedroom light turned on.

The dazzling light made Song Lin’s eyes swim.

He instinctively covered his eyes with his hand.

“Officer Song, you broke into my house and killed my grandparents. Are you going to kill me too?”

The childish voice, filled with innocence, chilled Song Lin’s blood.

Moving his hand away, he looked toward the bedroom door.

A small figure was leaning against the door, smiling gleefully at him.

It was Axi!

What Axi held in his hands made Song Lin’s eyes bulge with terror, sending chills throughout his body.

In his left hand, the dark muzzle of a gun pointed right at him.

In his right hand, an old human head with bulging eyes stared at Song Lin, eyes wide open in death.

The owner of the head was the elderly woman!

Song Lin looked at Axi in shock, his expression angry yet helpless.

At such a close distance, even if Axi fired at the ground, the ricocheting bullets stood a great chance of hitting him.

Thinking of dodging?

He could only gamble that Axi’s gun was out of bullets.

Song Lin wasn’t naively delusional to think that Axi would use a fake gun to scare him at this moment.

The dark muzzle of the gun glistened under the light with a chilling gleam that made Song Lin’s heart quiver.

“Officer Song, this head is so heavy. Could you help me hold it for a bit?” Axi asked, raising the head toward Song Lin.

The childish voice paired with the bloody head created an indescribably eerie scene.

Song Lin stared at Axi without showing any reaction.

Axi smiled and waved the gun in his hand.

Song Lin keenly caught that this gun was loaded and the safety was off.

Indeed, it was a real gun!

“Officer Song, would you mind?” Axi tilted his head, looking at Song Lin.

He flashed a wide, bright smile, exposing his big white teeth.

A seven or eight-year-old child making this gesture should have seemed adorable, but the way Axi did it sent shivers down Song Lin’s spine.

Especially because in Axi’s hand…

…he was holding a head that was still dripping blood!

Facing the dark muzzle of the gun, Song Lin’s brain raced. What way out could he find from the deadly situation Axi had prepared for him?

“Officer Song, do you think I’ll give you a chance?” Axi asked cheerfully.

With that, he tossed the bloody head onto the floor with a flick of his wrist.

The head rolled to Song Lin’s feet, its face turned towards him, its eyes wide open in death, staring intently at Song Lin’s face.

“Officer Song, the floor is cold. Pick up my grandmother’s head quickly,” Axi said, tilting the gun upward, speaking coldly.

“My grandmother always hated the cold…” Axi murmured to himself.

Song Lin slowly bent over to pick up the old woman’s head.

His hand slowly reached toward his waist.

“Bang!”

The gun went off!

On the floor, the old woman’s head burst in an instant, splattering blood and brain matter in a mix of red and white.

Blood sprayed all over Song Lin, interrupting his actions.

“Officer Song, guns are too dangerous. You really shouldn’t take them out. I get scared,” he said.

“When I’m scared, my hands tend to shake.”

“And when my hands shake, it’s easy for the gun I’m holding to go off.”

Axi’s frigid voice filled the air.

Song Lin took a deep breath, straightened up, and looked at Axi.

“Is your name Axi?” Song Lin asked in a deep voice.

“Oh?”

“So, Fang Xiaocao did recognize me.”

Axi raised an eyebrow, speaking with a smile.

“What a nuisance. Looks like I’ll have to kill another one.”

Axi muttered to himself.

“Give it up. If I die, you won’t escape.”

Song Lin said solemnly.

“No, no, no, I’m not planning to run away.”

“I’m tired after more than twenty years.”

Axi said cheerfully.

“But before I die, it’d be interesting to find some fun, wouldn’t it?”

Axi continued with a smile.

“What do you want to do?” Song Lin asked in a deep voice.

“Do you think, if a good police officer were to break into a civilian’s home at night, kill an elderly couple, and then get killed by a child seizing his gun, that the unscrupulous media and so-called self-media people would make a big deal out of it?”

Axi tilted his head, speaking cheerfully.

“They would, but the department will clear my name,” Song Lin said coldly.

“There have been plenty of official denials.”

“But those after clicks and attention, with some encouragement from interested parties, will still twist the facts with conspiracy theories.”

“Mindless trolls don’t care about the truth; they just prefer to believe the ‘truth’ they desire,” Axi said with a chuckle.

“So?” Song Lin countered.

“The internet isn’t outside the law. Cross the line, and you can’t escape the sanctions of the law,” Song Lin replied with a cold laugh.

“I don’t care about that!”

“I just want to see you being cursed!”

“To be flamed by those online trolls.”

“Watching your colleagues angry, helpless, yet unable to clear your name,” Axi continued jovially.

“You lunatic!”

Song Lin’s face darkened as he cursed angrily.

“Officer Song, do you think someone might do something irrational out of anger when they, or their family, are harassed online?”

“Tsk, tsk. Just thinking about it is fun,” Axi said with a smirk.

Hearing this, Song Lin trembled uncontrollably with anger.

“Devil!”

“Madman!”

Song Lin shouted furiously.

“Ha ha ha…”

“Thank you for the compliment!”

Axi laughed unrestrainedly.

“Officer Song, I’m going to need your cooperation!”

“Come, pick up this head…”

“And then go to their bedroom!”

Axi spoke cheerfully.

His eyes full of amusement.

Watching Song Lin’s angry expression, Axi seemed very pleased, apparently enjoying Song Lin’s anger and helplessness.

Song Lin bent down, picked up the head, and cradled it in his arms.

Axi’s laughter grew even more joyful.

Stepping aside from the door, he walked to a corner and lifted the gun slightly, gesturing Song Lin to go to the old couple’s bedroom.
