I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 728 Pressures From Everywhere

After the attack from the metal birds, another wave of assaults began, coming one after another—first more metal birds, then Ogres, and finally, Daemons.

The Elves managed to defeat each wave, but doing so required them to continuously expend their Magic and physical strength. In the end, with the relentless attacks coming one after another, fatigue began to set in.

The small-scale assaults stretched on for hours, wave after wave attacking from different directions. As the sun began to set and dusk arrived, more and more enemy corpses piled up around the palace.

The Magic barrier still stood firm, its shimmering dome shielding them from harm. So far, no attack had been strong enough to strain its defenses.

The archers and warriors continued their relentless counterattacks, ensuring that no enemy got too close. The soldiers fought directly on the ground, cutting down the advancing forces, while the archers fired upon the metal birds in the sky.

The Mages had yet to take significant action, focusing only on strengthening their allies or healing the wounded. King Gulben had ordered them to conserve their Magic energy for when a more critical moment arrived.

In the throne room, the war council sat together, though they had little to do. Laston's attacks followed the same pattern—just continuous waves of the same forces. Stay connected through My Virtual Library Empire

That was the real problem. The council had begun to suspect that Laston's true goal was to exhaust their warriors and archers first, weakening the palace's defenders before launching a more decisive assault.

The king sat on his throne, his right hand resting against his face, his expression hard. Fury still burned clearly in his eyes.

"That bastard is deliberately using the Daemons and Ogres to wear down our warriors. How are they willing to throw their lives away like cannon fodder?" one of the advisors asked.

"They may not have a choice. What if Laston is threatening them?" another responded.

"That's entirely possible. Knowing Laston, he wouldn't hesitate to use the Daemons and Ogres as mere cannon fodder if it meant furthering his plans by threatening them."

The conversation continued as the advisors discussed and speculated on what Laston's real intentions were beyond these waves of disposable troops. In the end, however, they found themselves simply cursing him and his cruelty, unable to determine his true strategy.

Meanwhile, King Gulben remained silent on his throne. If he focused too much on their words, his anger would only grow, pushing him toward rash decisions that could cost them dearly.

Aurdis stood by his side, biting her lip as she observed her father's tense expression.

She knew her father was furious at Laston—not just for attacking them, but for defiling the purity of their Magic by fusing it with metal and machinery.

That angered her as well, but more than anger, she felt fear. She had heard Saeldir's report and the scouts' accounts of what they had encountered in Laston's lair.

"Father, are you alright?" Aurdis asked.

King Gulben took a few seconds before answering. "I'm alright. Do you have something to say?"

"N-No, not really. I was just asking because I'm concerned," Aurdis said, her blue eyes looking at the king.

King Gulben let out a long breath through his nose. Then, he turned and looked at his daughter's face. In that moment, the hardness in his expression softened as he saw Aurdis's worried look.

"I'm sorry if I made you worry. But I'm alright. You don't need to be concerned." He then took Aurdis's hand in his own. "Everything will be fine. Fairon will come to our aid, and then we will defeat Laston once and for all."

Aurdis remained silent for a moment, gazing at her father with the same concerned expression. There was something she wanted to say, but she decided to hold it back for now.

Instead, she nodded. "I believe everything will be fine, Father."

King Gulben smiled.

But at that moment, a booming sound echoed from outside, signaling yet another attack.

"Another attack is coming, Your Majesty," a Mage announced.

"I know," King Gulben replied curtly, his eyes fixed on the open balcony window. His jaw tightened.

---

"Their numbers are twice as large as before," said the Mage observing from outside.

The archers around him immediately readied their Magic arrows.

"No need to worry. We can take them down easily," one of the archers said as he nocked an arrow onto his bow, already aiming.

However, the leader of the archer squad couldn't be as relaxed as the rest of his men. His gaze shifted to the quivers standing beside each archer.

Their Magic arrows were down to only half a quiver. And they still had no idea how many more enemies would come.

The Elf leader gritted his teeth, his expression uneasy. If they kept using Magic arrows now, they would run out when a larger attack arrived.

But if they didn't use Magic arrows, they weren't sure they could kill the enemies before they reached the palace walls.@@novelbin@@

He was certain the other leaders were aware of this problem as well. He considered reporting it to the king immediately.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Projectiles continued to rain down, launched by the metal birds and the forces attacking from below. The strikes slammed against the barrier, causing it to shimmer under the strain.

The leader finally nocked an arrow onto his bow. For now, he had to focus on fighting first.

"SHOOT!" he commanded his squad.

And a rain of Magic arrows was unleashed upon the enemies

The booming sounds continued to echo, signaling the relentless assault from their enemies. Aurdis watched anxiously from the window, her eyes fixed on the shimmering waves rippling across the surface of the magic barrier.

"Father!"

"I know," King Gulben said, his gaze also locked onto the flickering ripples of the barrier. "Check on the mages maintaining the magic barrier."

Aurdis nodded and immediately left the throne room.

"Your Majesty, I have received reports from the leaders of the archer squadrons. Our supply of magic arrows is running low. What should we do about this?" the mage suddenly spoke, delivering yet another piece of bad news.

"What? Didn't we already provide them with plenty?" one of the advisors asked.

"Yes, but with the unending waves of enemies, our supplies keep dwindling. And now... even the number of enemies in a single wave has doubled," the mage replied.

"Damn that traitor!"

The advisors immediately voiced their anger and frustration, cursing Laston with even more fury than before.

"Tell them to use regular arrows for now," King Gulben finally decided.

"But… that will make things much harder for our archers, Your Majesty," one of the advisors protested.

King Gulben let out a sigh, revealing his own frustration. "It can't be helped. We must reserve the magic arrows for stronger enemies later."

The mage looked dejected. This was not going to be well received by the archers. It meant they would have to double their efforts to keep the enemies at bay.

Still, he relayed the message to the designated messenger without further protest.

Aurdis stepped into the chamber on the lower floor, where the Mages responsible for maintaining the Magic barrier were stationed.

The moment she entered, a sense of urgency gripped her. The room pulsed with an ominous glow that shifting between deep red and flickering orange.

The light emanated from a massive orb at the chamber's center and creating wavering shadows against the stone walls.

Her chest tightened. She knew what this meant. The barrier straining under the attacks.

Around the orb, several Mages stood in a rigid formation, their hands raised, weaving continuous streams of Magic into the protective dome outside.

Their faces were pale with exhaustion, beads of sweat rolling down their temples as they struggled to maintain the barrier's strength.

The energy fluctuations in the room made the air feel heavy and thick with unstable Magic.

Aurdis quickly approached one of the elder Mages, who barely spared her a glance, too focused on his task.

"How bad is it?" she asked, her voice steady despite her growing concern.

The elder Mage exhaled sharply. "We can still holding on for now, Princess. But the attacks seems to get stronger each hour. If this continues, the barrier won't last long. We need the Archmage to weave some more Magic to the formation."

"Saeldir is still unwell right now. He can't reinforce the formation." She took a deep breath before stepping closer to the orb, feeling the intense waves of unstable Magic radiating from it. "I will hold it alone for now. The rest of you, adjust the and add something to the formation as needed to stabilize the barrier. And someone report this to my father. Now!"

The Mages exchanged quick glances before nodding. They understood the urgency of the situation. Immediately, they moved into action.

Some adjusted the runes glowing faintly on the chamber floor while others began channeling their Magic into the formation of runes, trying to redistribute the pressure.

One of the younger Mage establishing a link with the Mages in the throne room to deliver the report.

Meanwhile, Aurdis spread her arms toward the orb, her fingers trembling as she connected with the ancient enchantments woven into the barrier.

A surge of power rushed through her and she directed it into the formation.

The orb flared brighter, responding to her touch, but the pressure turns out was immense. She gritted her teeth.

The attacks outside had not stopped. If anything, the impact against the barrier grew stronger with every passing minute.
